Round 11 Wrap-Up​

An interesting round of games saw the two bottom teams win and the top 2 teams lose, narrowing the differences between teams on the ladder. Demons and Royals push their ways into the top 4 and will likely remain there as both teams are in good nick and have favourable draws. Dragons and Gumbies both move further up the ladder and continue their winning form with both now likely to finish in the top 8 at the end of the home and away season. Wonders continue their downward descent and will likely not play finals as they have the toughest run home out of all the teams. Furies beating Bombers makes the wooden spoon race much more open now with Roys a slight chance to take it if everything falls apart for them in the last 6 games.

Team Analysis​

1st Warriors 8-3

Wins needed to finish top 4: 2​

A high scoring affair saw the Warriors lose to the Dragons at home. Luckily they are still in first place as the Bombers also lost their round 11 match. They still only need 2 wins in order to notch up that all important double chance in finals. Their next match against the reigning premiers will be difficult. The Royals have improved a lot since their previous match earlier in the season and it will certainly be a much closer contest than before.

2nd Bombers 7-4

Wins needed to finish top 4: 3​

A disappointing loss to bottom-placed Furies means the Bombers now need to win at least half of their remaining 6 games to make the top 4. Still clinging onto second place with only one game separating them and the rest of the pack, they will need to win this week against the Hawks. Lose to the Hawks and they can fall all the way down to 6th. Win this week and a top 4 spot is almost a certainty. Big week ahead for Antonio BlueVein and the rest of the team.

3rd Demons 6-5

A great win against the Swamprats sees the Demons climb back into the top 4 and will likely remain there for the rest of the season with their huge percentage to boot. This weeks game against the Wonders will be very winnable as the Wonders have lost 3 in a row and seem to be in a downward spiral. It is still a danger game, so manangatang and his team must be on right from the start of the game. A win this week should pretty much confirm finals for the Demons.

4th Royals 6-5

A brilliant win against the Wonders now sees the Royals up into the top 4 for the first time this season. The reigning premiers are back in form and hungry to go back-to-back this season. This weeks match against 1st placed Warriors will easily be the match of the round and should give both teams a good look at potential match ups for the highly likely finals match between the two teams.

5th Dragons 6-5

Wins needed to finish top 4: 4​

The Dragons pulled off a stunning victory against 1st placed Warriors on the road. Now they are within striking distance of the top 4 being just outside on percentage. They likely need to win 4 of their last six games to make it into the top 4 and with the form they are in it is very possible. Their most important game in the run home will be against the Demons in round 14. Currently in 3rd place, the Demons are also trying to place inside the top 4 and the game will probably decide who gets in and who doesn't.

6th Gumbies 6-5

They seem to have come out of nowhere but the Gumbies are now up to 6th after winning 3 in a row and are looking to finish even higher on the ladder. Just 2 more wins from their last 6 games and Barrybran can once again lead his team into finals. This weeks match against the Swamprats is important for both teams, win and finals is almost a certainty, lose and they might just be looking for vacation spots in a months time.

7th Wonders 5-5-1

Some tough losses for the Wonders and now they have fallen down to 7th place. It is getting down to the wire now for the Wonders if they want to play finals this season. Their next two games are on the road against 3rd placed Demons and 2nd placed Bombers. Lose both and they would need to beat at least 3 of their last 4 opponents to make finals and it would be incredibly difficult with games against 1st placed Warriors and 5th placed Dragons. Wonders are going to have a difficult time if their form doesn't change soon.

8th Swamprats 5-5-1

Wins needed to qualify for finals: 3
Wins needed to finish top 4: 5​

A defeat to the Demons now makes things much more difficult for the Swamprats. Needing at least 3 wins from their last 6 games might not seem like much, but they have some tough opposition. The next fortnight against Gumbies (6th) and Dragons (5th) will be a test of sorts to determine if Swamprats are capable of playing finals this season. Lose both of those and finals may just be out of sight.

9th Roys 5-6

Wins needed to finish top 4: 6​

I might have cursed the Roys back at the beginning of the run home when I labelled them the 'in-form team' of the competition. 2 losses in a row and they currently remain outside the top 8 half a game behind Swamprats. With a low percentage and a bunch of difficult games ahead it will be a tall order for the Roys to make the 8 from here. The good thing is they have a relatively easy game this week against 10th placed Bears or at least it should be. Lose this week and finals will probably be a pipe-dream for the Roys so it is simply a must-win.

10th Bears 4-7

Wins needed to qualify for finals: 4​

Losing to the Hawks is a massive blow to the Bears finals chances. Now only slightly ahead of the Hawks on percentage they may continue to slide down the ladder if their form doesn't improve. This weeks game against 9th placed Roys is do or die for the Bears as losing will make it nigh impossible to qualify for finals. After that they have 4 games against top 8 teams and finally an away game against bottom-placed Furies. Broken might be correct in stating that this team is heading south.

11th Hawks 4-7

Wins needed to qualify for finals: 4​

A great win against the Bears gives Hawks a glimmer of hope. Now just behind the Bears on percentage they are only 1 and a half games outside the top 8, but their low percentage will make life difficult for them as they will need to win at least 4 of their last 6 games to make finals. This weeks match against the Bombers will likely determine if they have what it takes to make it. Win and finals might actually be possible, lose and it might be acorns for Chipmunk.

12th Furies 3-8

The big surprise of the round was Furies beating the Bombers on the road. A simply superb victory that gives them a chance of not only moving out of last place, but also possibly making finals? It is pretty much impossible from here, but if Tigerturbulance can pump up his team to reach the form they had last season they could very well do it. This week against the Dragons will be the final nail in the coffin, win and they might pass the wooden spoon onto the Hawks or even Bears, lose and Furies might have to rebuild in hopes that next season is better.

7-10 is certainly achievable when you consider 6th is likely 9-8 and 7th is likely 8-9. Those draws are probably the main factor at the moment.

The ladders below are the most recent seasons we've had with 12 clubs playing 17 matches. Seven wins has been enough in three of the five seasons, Season 22 is the outlier with the Dragons qualifying with six a half wins.

Given the current ladder status with the seventh and eighth placed teams effectively batting at 50% (five and a half wins from 11 games), qualifying with seven wins may prove to be difficult but not impossible. Seven a half wins might be enough but you'd want eight to feel safe.

Round 12 Wrap-Up​

A very surprising round where the majority of games ended in upsets, making the ladder look almost completely different than what it did last week. More losses to top teams and wins to bottom teams means the ladder is tighter than ever. Royals and Gumbies are now the two in-form teams of the league, neither losing a game in the last month. Warriors and Bombers keep stumbling at the finish line with the latter likely not to finish in the top 4 now. Hawks and Furies are both making late plays for finals with the game this week between them likely to decide who could make it in.

1st Warriors 8-4

Wins needed for top 4 finish: 2​

Two losses on the trot for the Warriors and now everything is just that much more complicated for them. They still only need two wins from their last 5 games to make top 4, but they seem to be out of form and something has to change. This next fortnight will determine if Warriors make top 4 or not, playing against the Bears and Furies, both outside of the top 8 and struggling this season. The Bears this week is simply a must-win if the Warriors want to compete for the premiership come finals time.

2nd Royals 7-5

Royals are in-form and looking for their second premiership in a row. A great win against the ladder leaders now means they have won 5 games in a row. With just 5 games to go the question is will they keep this up and finish first on the ladder? It is a very real possibility with teams above them stumbling across the finishing line, but the Royals are now in the perfect position to grab the double chance come finals time. Just one more win needed to confirm finals and only needing to win 3 of their last 5 games to finish in the top 4, everything is looking up if you are a Royal.

3rd Gumbies 7-5

Four wins in a row for the Gumbies and they are now in the top 4 for the first time this season. With just a small percentage gap on the Bombers below them it looks like percentage will play a big part in which of these teams will make the top 4. Royals this week will be a challenge, then Bombers in two weeks time will likely determine who will finish in the top 4. A difficult run home will certainly test the leadership skills of Barrybran, but Gumbies look up to the challenge and could even go all the way this season.

4th Bombers 7-5

Another disappointing loss to a bottom four team means the Bombers are on a downward spiral and they must correct this before finals or they may not even make it. Still just one game away from cementing a top 8 spot, so the Bombers should still play finals, but now they have moved behind the Royals and Gumbies to drop to 4th on the ladder. This weeks match against the Wonders is a must-win if they are to keep touch with the top 4.

5th Wonders 6-5-1

A great win against a difficult opponent (Demons) now sees the Wonders move just half a game outside of the top 4. This weeks match against the Bombers looks all set to be a crackling game and will likely see the victor go on to finish in the top 4.

6th Demons 6-6

Demons just can't seem to get a run of wins in a row, going WLWLWL in their last 6 games. If they continue this form they will still make finals (only barely), but in order for them to reach top 4 at the end of the season they need to win a couple in a row. They have their work cut out for them as games against fellow top 8 teams await in their next two matches. This next fortnight will probably determine if they have a chance of making top 4 or not.

7th Dragons 6-6

Dragons have been yin and yang the past two games, beating the ladder leaders then losing to bottom placed Furies in a close match. They still need two more wins to secure a finals spot and their run of games aren't getting any easier.

Predicted finish: 7th

8th Roys 6-6

Wins needed for top 4 finish: 4​

A win against the Bears was necessary to play finals this season and Roys have done that. Now they need to win at least 2 games from their last 5 in order to make finals. Their next two against the Demons (6th) and Royals (2nd) will be tough and probably determine if the Roys have what it takes to play finals footy.

9th Swamprats 5-6-1

Two losses in a row for the Sin City Swamprats and they now find themselves out of the 8 with a lot of work to do to get back in. Needing at least 3 wins from their last 5, they must knock off one of either the Dragons, Wonders, or Royals (all top 8 teams) to make finals this season. This weeks match against the Dragons will likely be the game to decide if they can make it or not, as their last 2 games on the road are very difficult, so the Swamprats will need to bank as many wins as they can before then.

Predicted finish: 11th

10th Hawks 5-7

Wins needed to make finals: 3
Wins needed for top 4 finish: 5​

The Hawks have done everything right the past two weeks to give themselves a chance at playing finals this season. A great win against the Bombers now brings the Hawks that much closer to the top 8. This weeks game against the Furies is a must-win as their next 3 after that (Wonders, Gumbies, Royals) are all against top 4 hopefuls and will need to win at least one of those as well as the final game against the Roys in order to qualify for finals. It is possible for the Hawks to make it but they still need to beat some tough opposition to get there.

Predicted finish: 9th

11th Furies 4-8

Wins needed to make finals: 4​

Furies have seemed to hit some late season form winning two in a row and are now finally off the bottom of the ladder. Finals is actually possible but this weeks game against the Hawks will rule out whichever team that loses, so it is a must-win if they are to keep pushing their way towards the top 8.

Predicted finish: 10th

12th Bears 4-8

Wins needed to make finals: 4​

Another loss for the Bears and it may well be curtains for them for this season. Now sliding all the way down to the bottom of the ladder the Bears now need a miracle. This weeks game against the ladder leaders (Warriors) will be the final nail in the coffin unless they can somehow pull off a massive upset win. Bears might be in for a long winter.

It is possible but very unlikely. Bears and Furies would need to win 4 of their last 5 as well as Hawks winning at least 3 of their last 5 games, swamprats need to win 2 games (but lose to furies and bears) then Bombers need to lose every game they play.
