Alright time for the Second Le Grille- Gym4Life Award


This goes to the poster who went voteless despite an active posting season.

It is named after two ex SFA posters. Le Grille, who went voteless in S23 despite averaging 100+ posts a week and gym4life who went votless in S26 despite an active season.

The criteria is, they have to average at least 25 ppw and had to have been the most active poster to not score a vote. The inaugural winner was cooney in S27, no one was eligible in S28 and the award was not presented last season.

I haven’t posted any rock pics lately. Primarily because I was away working...taking lots of rock pics. Which strikes me as ironic. Could be just me though.

Anyways I went to my storage unit the other day and stumbled upon what I’m told is a tree fossil I found at Blue Beach in Nova Scotia. Blue Beach is a geo’s wet dream - one of the world’s best preserved sites for evidence of animalia making the transition from ocean to land in the Devonian (350 Ma).

I thought I’d share the love with a photo, but this time I wanted to do it right and use a scale so I could tag por_please_ya without fear of retribution. In doing so I noticed something interesting. The dimple pattern on an Estwing hammer handle is almost identical to the dimple pattern on the so-called tree fossil.

I’m not one to jump to outlandish conclusions based on limited evidence, but I can only assume this means that the ‘tree fossil’ is not a tree at all, but an Estwing hammer handle fossil. Which means that 350 million years ago amphibious creatures were using Estwing hammers just as we do today.

So next time you use an Estwing hammer just stop and think about the incredible history behind that revered name.
