Why would anyone go to a game if the other team is only half trying? Waste of everybodies time and money.

I agree with you that players always want to win. But it will be quite clear that the AFC and Port will only have development in mind with their reserves side (as they should). For that reason, the VFL is the best fit for both of them!

Who said they would only be half trying?

Development means playing Tom Lynch at centre half forward fir the crows reserves side, as opposed to on the ball as a midfielder like the bays did. Or playing Lewis Johnson at Centre Half back instead of as a key forward like josh Franco is doing at North Adelaide.

Or Mitchell Grigg as a half back flanker or midfielder and rucking to Angus Graham instead of that port Adelaide ruckman. He can develop the correct timing and midfield concept.

It doesn't mean playing Kyle Hartigan as a centreman/on ball or Rory Atkins in the ruck just to see if it will work. They will want to in, they will just have a different set if objectives to meet.

Best example from our side is Blee being played as a tall midfielder at North instead of FB or KPD. If they want a tall midfielder then they should recruit one and let Blee go to a team that needs a KPD.

Its funny. Half the people against it think they'll dominate the competition. The other half think they wont be trying and wont win a game.

Can anyone tell me if Geelong/Collingwood/Essendon recruits from the VFL get switched across to their reserves teams ? Similarly for affiliates ?

Of COURSE they do. Is that a real question?

I reckon Sam Kerridge's development has been totally held back at Sturt.

Interesting. Maybe it has. Impossible to measure.

Considering how lackluster our last four+ years have been, other than an easy run last year, I don't think we should be assuming we're getting everything right so far.

Nobody can make up their minds. The only thing they know for sure is change equals BAD... apparently.

Easy fix.

Forget anything other then Seniors at the Magpies.
10 team SANFL
8 teams in all the lower grades.
AFL teams only play away games. Its a money spinning machine for the SANFL and their teams.

Can anyone provide dome feedback on Hartigan's development?

It seems from tracking his round by round stats that as a KPD he is starting to not only defend but also win more footy

Is there anyone who has seen him play live can make comment?

I'm not sure anyone's against change. The proposal that the two AFL clubs play in the SANFL reserves comp is change and one that most SANFL fans and more importantly club presidents might be happy to go with. This will make the League comp 8 teams, ressies 10 teams and 18's and 16's 8 teams and the Magpies will cease existence which the Power has been working towards for the past few years.

Been to 5 south games this year and have kept a close eye on Hartigan and Dowdell.
Was unimpressed with his 1st two games (round 1 and 3) but since then he's been fantastic.
Would have Andy Otten's spot this round if he wasn't a rookie.

Looks like the SANFL is trying to get on Channel 9. Sounds like a good deal for McGuire and Channel 9, not so much for the SANFL..

If it gets SANFL matches on free to air commercial tv it's a BRILLIANT deal for the SANFL.

Still no facts re CEY. Still waiting.

If you want to see an internal memo from Sando to Phil Harper, you'll probably be disappointed.

These are the facts of the case, and they are undisputed. CEY played some pre-season games for the AFC. He played well and Sando said he was impressed. He went back to WWT when the real stuff started. He was played in several different positions not only from week to week but also from quarter to quarter. He played poorly. He was dropped from their league team.

They are the facts. The inference that we draw from the facts is that CEY is a capable footballer who should be able to play high quality SANFL, but has been unable to do so at WWT partly due to them being unsure about how to best use him, and that his development has stalled to the extent where he has gone from being considered a chance to play some games this year to being ahead of only Siggins, Atkins and possibly Joyce on our senior list.

Would be a ratings bonanza for channel 9....

7.30 Sunday night games maybe?
Or even better go head to head with Friday Night football on 7...
I don't think there is a need to be quite so dismissive.

Lets face it, 1.30pm on a Saturday isn't exactly teeming with competition.

Sorry, but couldn't help myself...

I have heard Shield Cricket may be making a welcome return?

Let's be honest, the SANFL will never make solid ratings and at the end of the day, that is all that matters.

Re-runs of Get Smart would triple what the SANFL could produce

Wouldn't have a clue to be honest.

Reckon they have the inside word that Crows & Power will have a reserves team in the SANFL & suddenly the product is worth more on TV...

Crows reserves v Norwood would probably rate more than Hawks v GWS...

Ch9 probably looking to show on Go rather than Ch9.

I haven't said any of that. It's some people's argument. My point is that it will be an unfair playing field to have two teams that don't have to fall under the salary cap as one example.
Is that too hard to understand?
Do you see the problem here?
Do you want Collingwood to have a cap of 15 million and Adelaide to have to abide to one of 8.7 million?
Do you think that is fair?
It's a question of ethics. What is fair and just. What the two clubs want is not fair and just for the other 8 clubs.
And I thought the Port board was myopic!

Just one alteration to your maths, that I dont think is being taken into account....
Your example -Coll 15mill salary cap - but not using their top 22/23 players (because they are playing in the AFL side) which would be more than half their cap. So Adelaide then on 8 mill would be similar to Coll using their bottom half of their cap. Thats not much of a difference.
Although did I read somewhere on here that the SANFL cap is $375,000 ?
Yeah, thats low. But the point is, does using your top team elsewhere make up for the salary cap imbalance?
