Didnt the sanfl claim a couple of years ago that Port home games would net them $12 Million over 3 years? This is in a down period crowd wise. Over the past 15 years, I think its safe to assume the sanfl have done very very well out of Port (about 60 mil if you go on those numbers).

Agree, I've never said one group (Port or the Crows deserve everything) but the model does need t be changed to allow a greater share to go to the rightful area.

i agree times of changed and the old models dont work. thats why repeating the old model at AO worries me..theres no reason for the SANFL to be involved with their hand in the pie. They could go off and run the SANFL with the proceeds from new housing suburb. Crows and Port should operate under the AFL like the other clubs.

Port Adelaide and the Crows deserve a greater share of the pie but never in a million years should it be 100%. I don't know what the ratio should be but the model needs to be changed.

Yeah they do but that has nothing to do with it. The 2 South Australian clubs were born under very different circumstances and have to pay homage to it's past.

What you really mean is, give us (Port) all our money and **** the rest.

Without South Adelaide, North Adelaide and the rest - Port Adelaide would not be in the AFL. Show some respect to your past.

It is why vic clubs sell home games to the NT, Tassie and Cairns rather than play against low drawing interstae sides at the G and Docklands.


The advantage they also have are home games against big drawing Vic opponents. Hence every vic club wants to play Essendon and Collingwood at the G. And mathematically these clubs big clubs wont travel much interstate because of this. With 11 home games and 8 or 9 other games agianst other vic clubs as the away side to prop them up, there aren't enough games left in the season to travel interstate often.


They still have stadium deals in place and have to "pay" to host a game.

Since it has become increasingly apparent that most, if not all Sanfl clubs would like nothing more than to see the destruction of the Port Adelaide Football Club, you might understand why most Port supporters don't actully give a flying **** about the Sanfl.

yeah thats fair ..I thought it was about making the Crows and Port stronger and winning flags..the SANFL clubs cant be expected to run on the income their comp generates

Alberton would struggle with more thwn 10k there now. And is less accessible than Footy Park. Also as a supporter do you really only want to see your team live only 8 or 9 times a year live? It works for the small vic clubs because their members can go to "away" games at their home venue. We can only do that once a year.

It's because you have had your cake and you want to eat it as well.

You have gained access to the AFL via the history and tradition of the successful SANFL competition and now your willing to dance on it's grave. Most people show respect to their past, not piss on it.

Most football people respect where Port Adelaide came from and how they got to the AFL with their on field actions but they don't respect their off field actions. It's also appealing the lack of gratitude some Port supporters have shown considering the privladge your club received from the SANFL with the sub licence.

id rather see them at AO but im not against them selling a game or 2 and making some dough when times are tough. We could have been at AO for the last 3 years..we didnt even need it expanded at all.. we would be well ahead by now.

do you really think that any of the SANFL clubs give two shits about Port whilst they fight their own battles?

I'd suggest Port supporters are becoming a touch arrogant if they think people care that much about them.

See, this type of comment pisses me off as well.

Port Adelaide and the Crows have to understand the history of the SANFL and respect the privileged position they are in. Without the other 8 SANFL clubs, Port Adelaide would not be in the AFL and the Crows would have found it much harder to develop a successful supporter base.

Therefore, it's both clubs historical and futuristic responsibility to put something back into the local league and allow that league to prosper. Their is enough financial supporter in South Australian Football for the Crows, Power and the 9 SANFL clubs to run at a profit but greed can not play a part. Sadly, it is and I can not see it changing anytime soon.

We are a football driven state and without that, Port or the Crows wouldn't be in the AFL. I just hope a few people can remember that.

But your point is still true. It's not a Port error as much as it was an AFL error. They overestimated the support and the value of premierships won in a secondary comp. They believed Port and the SANFLs hype.

It seemed that Port were seen as a 'higher level' club than the other SANFL clubs. Sure more premierships, but there was something 'special' about Port Adelaide; their fans were more loyal and showed up in numbers year after year, spread members ashes on Alberton Oval when they died, bleed black and white etc.

What we've seen is that all these fans were only turning up because they were winning. There was nothing different about them. Their club is no different to any other SANFL club, except their fans were more accustomed to success so actually more fickle.

It's not just profit either.

Two of the clubs have to compete in a national competition where the benchmarks extend beyond just being profitable.

All Port jokes aside, it's obvious the SANFL's vision must change. The "second best competition outside the AFL" can't be sustained. It needs to be simply part of an elite pathway for South Australian footballers, not a superannuation fund for players spat out by the AFL system.

They shouldn't panic about players leaving to take the $$$ in country footy or amateur league either. That will always happen. The players who are gunning to play at the highest level and/or to play AFL football will remain. The ones who will leave are the ones whose time is up.

Sure that will mean younger SANFL league teams but who cares. I'd rather Sturt for instance was full of kids from our metro and country zone rather than the journeymen it is now.

That's crap and we all know it.

The SANFL are driving the Port Adelaide football club into the ground with moronic stadium charges and that has become the unspoken fact. That is the problem both SA based AFL clubs are facing. Both the Crows and the Power should be financial powerhouse AFL club even with 25,000 members. FFS, we own AAMI Stadium, we are not paying a stadium mortgage like the Victorian clubs and we are not going to have to pay anything to towards the Adelaide Oval upgrade, yet the SANFL is taking money hand over fist ever week from both clubs.

The exorbitant fees the SANFL make the 2 AFL club pay is moronic - it's the stadium hire fee that is killing the Power. Not it's inability to attract a crowd.

The terms of Port's financial charges by the SANFL were known at the time that Port wanted to enter the AFL. Port estimated that they would attract an average of 35,000 people to a game. Hah ha ha!! What bullshit that was. If you have certain known costs, and exaggerate your income to make it work, then bigger fool you.

They ARE a financial basket case, and if they were a normal commercial business not being propped up, would have been forced to go into a minimum of administration, but more likely liquidation. In 2011, they could not pay their bills as and when they became due which means that they were insolvent, a pre-cursor to being wound up, so sent an SOS to the SANFL to give them money so ensure their survival. if the SANFL hadn't come up with the money it was night night Irene for Port Power.
