Or could they add a 10th team into the SANFL? Current 9 teams (Port Magpies become Power reserves) and a separate 'Crows Reserves' team. Would eliminate the uneven numbers in the comp and maybe increase the quality of the SANFL.

Theres no point playing in the VFL we have a comp here that we need to support. Where are we going to get the extra reserves players from to send to the VFL..from the remnants of Sturt.. The crows reserves at Sturt would leave all the original SANFL teams intact..no one would lose..everyone still follows there local club and get their 1500 to games.

Who would go to watch North v South if the Crows 2s were playing West Adelaide on the same day?

Also what happenes to ablok like Rory Laird. West have developed him from 13 years old most likely. All of a sudden a year later he gets taken away and even worse has to play against them.

Clubs would have to be paid well for players they lose to recruit replacements.

I think the Crows and Port putting a team in the VFL will be a death knell for the SANFL.

There are a lot of people who'd rather see the crows reserves play Collingwood reserves than South play West.

The Crows invest their money in the VFL, and the sixty thousand or so SANFL supporters will continue to slowly wither in number, and the teams will slowly starve.

This seems like the only practical solution.

Olympic and FIFA funding.

FIFA will want the A-League to have relegation soon enough as well.

The Double Blues were buoyed by the performance of key forward recruit Sam Smith, who kicked seven goals. Smith, recruited from Flagstaff Hill, looms as an exciting foil for the experienced Matt Duldig inside 50m this season.
‘’He’s certainly one of those blokes who looks like he may not be one of the best on the training track but when the games come around, he looks quite lively,’’ Sturt football manager Paul Sandercock said of the 21-year-old.
‘’He’s going to come across some handy opponents during the year so it will be interesting to see how he handles the attention, particularly if he kicks a few early.
‘’He’s a similar size (188cm) to Matty Duldig so he won’t be a taller option but being similar players, they are both quite smart, they might be able to work well together.’’
The Double Blues were also pleased with Kilburn recruit Nick Pearce in the ruck while former Gold Coast Suns utility Michael Coad and Norwood backman Alex Stopp also showed encouraging signs.
Jarrad Lienert and Patty Wilson were the pick of the younger players while Crows-listed Angus Graham also fronted for the Double Blues.
‘’He’s a big unit,’’ Sandercock said of Graham, the former Richmond ruckman.
‘’I think anyone that size will be an asset, particularly after playing around 50 AFL games. But you try and build your side around not having those sort (AFL-listed) guys. If they are there, they are there.’’

The Bulldogs played three 20-minute periods with ruck recruits Seb Guilhaus and Jack Osborn impressing coach Roy Laird. Guilhaus, who has previously played in the SANFL with Glenelg and Woodville-West Torrens, arrived at Elizabeth before Christmas while Osborn is rookie-listed with the Crows.
‘’We’re pretty happy with where we will be with our ruck stocks,’’ Laird said.
‘’Seb was pretty solid and Jack Osborn looks very encouraging given he’s had limited stoppage work. Along with Cameron Milne, who has had a fantastic pre-season, and a young lad in Matt Claughton who has matured now, we’ve got good competition there (in the ruck).
‘’We were most pleased that a lot of the things we tried to implement pre-season, the players have embraced. We just have to make sure we get the balance right between attack and defence. But the early signs are encouraging as we think we’re really fit.’’
Sydney Swans recruit Jackson Potter, who copped a knock to his upper leg, was the only injury concern for the Bulldogs.

It's funny how the SANFL are painted as some sort of altrustic organisation that really really wants to do the best but simply can't.

This is an organisation that has set up one of the worst stadium deals in the country, which they profit greatly from. It's the organisation who just got built a new stadium and put $0 into it. An organisation that have thus far, given up nothing from their previous pilfering stadium deal. And it's an organisation that now has vacant land which they can sell or develop, land which could potentially have a value in the hundreds of millions.

And they have already quickly ruled out helping two of its traditional clubs who are in desperate need. But I have no doubt that they'll keep sprouting that they're proud of the fact that they're 'second best', despite that philosophy going a large way to destroying clubs.

Then, they have then managed to negotiate a brand new stadium at no cost to them - that is freaking amazing.

In reality, they have only made 2 horrendous mistakes - 1) believed Port Power that they could be successful under the terms of the original licence 2) bailed them out

The stadium deal might be shit, but that's what the Power signed up for (i think the Crows were just told thats what it is )

it is tiring to continually hear Port Power fans biting the hand that sustains them.

and please, don't get me wrong, I want the Crows to be a member owned club ASAP with their own reserves, but you can't deny how well the SANFL has done over the last 20 years.

Adelaide, based on crowds, and memberships, should be in a West Coast/Collingwood financial position, using the excess money to go into off field resources which are becoming more vital. Port Adelaide shouldn't be thriving, it's support recently has been poor, but it shouldn't be making the levels of losses that could kill the club. Instead of Adelaide being like Collingwood, and Port being say, a Geelong, the Crows are comparable to say a St.Kilda and Port similar to the Dogs. It's madness and the fact that you accept this because of the wildly 'successful' SANFL is ludicrous.

As I said, up until a few years ago.

play it down all you want, the Power and the AFC agreed to terms, and now want them changed (rightly or wrongly)

And i'm not arguing that the goal posts haven't changed and I'm not suggesting the Crows shouldn't be better off, they should be (read my rants at the current administration), how we are not a powerhouse I'll never know.

regardless of what ignorant Port Supporters think, the SANFL has been very very well run, and they are not responsible for clubs mismanagement. (SANFL mainly, not AFL).

As we all know without the SANFL there is no Port Power, but without Port Power the SANFL still exists and would probably be better off.

so in summary, I am aware that the Crows are somewhat hamstrung by their dealings with the SANFL - and you would argue that is made worse by the Power position as the SANFL need the money from the Crows to prop up the Power but I'm not going to simply dismiss the work the SANFL has done over the last 20 years.

I want the Crows to have a member owned licence and to be able to negotiate a better deal for themselves, I also don't want the Power riding on their coattails
