Thanks JPS, valuable info.

Like the sounds of good ball use, footy smarts, a weapon of a kick.

Don't like the sound of the wobbly knee though.

It's not that hard to figure out why, is it? He's a performing player in the SANFL, and we're not making the AFL finals. We have several players woefully out of form and in need of a rest. We desperately need a tall forward. Why not play our best-performing league forward in the AFL?

I'm not saying he's going to be a superstar based on his league form. I'm saying I would like to see him tried out for a few weeks in what remains of this sorry season.

I can't fathom what issue you could possibly have with that.

No, I haven't seen him play except the odd TV game.
Thats the issue ......AFL is not a trial team

you advocating he play....yet you have not seen him play or train

What did Vader say ......newtoyitous .....that' all it is

Will tell you how it goes ......he'll get a game ...half of this board will tear him apart, the other half will make excuses

Guy has all the talent ...enough to dominate SANFL .....but not the intensity/drive to beat the best AFL defenders

Hypocritical much?

You haven't seen him play against the best AFL defenders. That's the problem, no one has.

He deserves a shot

Out of interest, how many games have you seen of him live? you're talking as if it's every week. but with a SANFL of West, and a location of Melbourne, I have my doubts it's very many more than anyone else here.

CYE played for Eagles league side today ......played well according to stats ...about time
but you're happy to declare that CEY had a good game based on stats??

And on another 'great white hope', anyone go to Elizabeth and can tell us about Hartigan's game?

Had modest stats, but be interested to know whether he nullified his direct opponent.

A man who knows his window will be open for precisely 1 more week, before Smack comes back and his window slams shut again.

Smack should take Jenkins' spot.

Johnston, Lynch and McKernan would be my forward line for the last 5-6 games. At least that way it's a precursor to our likely structure next year (with Tex replacing LJ). Jenkins should get a trial down back IMO.

I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in whether people here tear him apart or make excuses. None whatsoever. And I would be aghast if the club was making decisions on whether or not to play a young forward based upon how it might be received by an internet forum.

He's on our list. We either need to use him at some point, or get rid of him - and quite possibly both. That decision will be far easier to make intelligently if we actually give him some games. It would also be of great benefit to Johnston himself.

I agree that the AFL is not a trial team, however Johnston has consistently played at a high level in the SANFL. He's earned his AFL debut in the past. We're currently short of players in form, and short of performing tall forwards. This would not be a "trial" game. It would be rewarding a fringe player for strong form when lack of form in others opens up a spot. This happens at every single football club.

Don't give me this "newtoyitis" crap, as though I'm on here very week calling for every young player to be played at the expense of senior players. If anything, the opposite has been true. I just think that, in this case, Johnston has done enough this year to earn some AFL gametime and I'd like to see him get it.

At this point, what difference does it make? We have nothing to play for and all of our "good" players are playing like vomit, so why not have a look at the bloke for a few games so we know what to do with him next year?

Are people also forgetting he played very good consistent SANFL footy for the entire 2012 season?

He may only be a good SANFL player but you can't tell that if we don't play him. If we didn't try players in form in lower leagues then our team would consist of zero players and we would also draft zero players, so don't give me this bullshit that it's only SANFL because we have no other measure to go by until he gets a string of consecutive games at AFL level. If he's shit after that, cut him loose, but don't let the next club try him out and find out he's an AFL standard player.

Exactly.

Do you think StK might want Tom Lynch back?

Dropped for McKernan. LOL.
Why the mocking laughter? McKernan has been selected ahead of him every single time, pretty much since LJ walked through the door after being traded.

Lord knows I'm no fan of McKernan.. but the reality is that the selectors have always chosen him ahead of LJ.

Love how everyone talks about the Forward line when our midfield gets reamed every week.

Lets get that working first.

Didnt see anything wrong with our forward line last night,

Midfield however....

That's what I like about your posting. You don't get mad. You get stabby.

You're forgetting that Vader has a list, he calls it the "pecking order". This order can never change which means Lewis Johnston is doomed even if he kicks 31 goals next week.
The bolded bit is wrong.

Callinan & Johncock both started the year in the best 22. Neither are in it now.

When it comes to LJ, he's clearly been the least preferred option of all our KPP forwards. He's been on our list for 18 months and he's played a grand total of one charity game in that time - at a time when we had a double digit injury list. JJ, Lynch & Smack have all been preferred to him (as was Tex - obviously). Smack's suspension lasts one more week - that's LJ's window. After that, Smack goes in & LJ goes back to North Adelaide... unless LJ pulls off a miracle.

Well, looks like Vader and Wayne' World have stamped LJ's papers.

Decision's been made then. He will be delisted without any further consideration
I have made very few comments about LJ. All of my comments have centred upon his continual non-selection.. wondering how long the club will persist with a player they obviously have no interest in selecting.
