Then when you see Phil Davis on the TV and it reminds you we lost him watch Gunston and Tippett play well and remember we lost them as well, it just reminds you how far off the pace this footy club has actually become.

Davis left due to an obscene amount of money and it was stupid to draft Gunston as he was a flight risk. Tippett well again we should of got rid of when we could but whatever.

This footy club isn't far off at all but if you want to be angry at a couple of moments go ahead.

I'd be interested to know from a North fans perspective what role LJ has played over the last 3 weeks?
,
He appears to have played a different role this week than the last few.

I hope he isn't the new Ladhams and proves us all wrong and makes a career out of AFL.

If you believe that, I've got a bridge for sake that you could be interested in buying.

Also, do you like pyramids? And different money making opportunities? They are all honest, I promise.

Against Glenelg he started off at CHF and when J Craig went down he became almost an extra midfielder, starting at a lot of centre bounces, but usually conceding the tap to Button, and trying to rove off him. Against Port his role was similar but he was more of a traditional CHF or FF, with stints in the middle. I didn't see this week but I'd suggest he played more in the forward 50 than he has the previous fortnight.

Well from where i look at it is nearly everything that has happened has strengthened us. Davis going was replaced by Talia who is a superior defender, Gunston well Lynch is doing pretty good and plus if Kerridge becomes a gun midfielder/forward then we win that... or if Joyce/CEY become serviceable (They were the other picks exchanged in that deal) Tippet is the only one where we have become weaker because we lost our second best ruckman (and a little bit of draft sanctions, but that is only 4 picks)

Then you look at our core. Couple of outstanding midfielders (Sloane and Danger), good/great spine with Walker/Jenkins/Talia/Rutten and everywhere else our youth is standing up, what is it 5 RS nominations in the past two years? However reading your comments you'd swear we were in a worse position then the Demons.

The only place we are equal to the Demons in terms of ineptness is Administration but no one is defending them.

LJ and Angus in next week?
Surely Kerridge would get a gig too
LJ yes. Angus hell no. Kerridge unlikely, given that we have Rutten & Dangerfield both likely to return - and they're unlikely to make more than 3 changes.

Why are you comparing us to the Melbourne Football Club?

Why not try and make a direct comparison between us and the Geelong Football Club and or Hawthorn who are in premiership contention.

Even though we beat Geelong last weekend, I still think we are miles away from being a premiership threat.

No i'm not comparing us to Melbourne, i said that reading your post you've made it sound like we are in a worse position then Melbourne. You've misquoted me a bit here. Unless we are talking about administration which i was comparing to Melbourne.

We are a few of years off a premiership, that's a fair comment but majority of the pieces are there now. Its more getting rid of the dead wood and plugging holes.

Only 4 picks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF

We lost our picks from last year 1 inside the top 20 and one at about pick 35 or so cant remember this year we could have got approx pick 6-8 and a mid twenties pick. Now add on Tippets picks, I believe that he was worth a pick in the 6-10 range and a pick from 15-20, so in total we lost 6 picks 2 inside the top ten 2 from 10-20 and 2 from 20 to 35 or so. Now go and have a look at some of the players taken in those numbers and come back and tell me they are ONLY picks as WW said previously we should be entering a golden age with a number of young draftees but alas we are not.
What do we plug the holes with?

We have already weathered half of those draft sanctions and Tippet worth isn't that much with the amount of concussions. Brisbane were only willing to give up pick 8 (or Polac) for a healthier Tippet but that is speculative.

The golden age is still on my good man, i mean look at all of the youth we have that actually look comfortable at AFL level and with a bit of a tank and natural improvement will take the league by storm. Free Agency, Pre Season draft, trading. The methods are there to fill problems positions.

Yep and know sprinkle in say a Wines plus another Danger and another Sloane and thats just going at a 50% success rate and tell me how golden it could be.

Lets face it, that is all speculation. I mean imagine if we got Pavlich instead of McGregor, how golden the last decade would of been.

I mean you are treating the draft as a guaranteed way of getting superstars, it isn't. 4 Picks (i refuse to evaluate Tippets worth or count it in this discussion) could of been 4 duds quite easily had we picked wrong.

A very large FU from LJ to the 'pecking order' there. 7.0. Tidy.

Kids turned a corner. Well, actually he turned it a fair while ago but can't be ignored any more.

Sigh... how about you go back and look at who we've picked in recent years with our first round picks, and then contemplate what our team would currently look like without those players. The days of teams (at least ones with decent recruitment staff in place) picking duds early in the first round are long gone. Even if you don't have any faith in the draft, those early picks can also be used to trade in proven quality players.

Refusing to factor in the loss of a commodity, which could command a salary of $1m a year, for absolutely nothing doesn't help to strengthen your ridiculous position either.

Vader gave him the tick of approval though ;)
Tambling for bock compo and another pick. Was just pissing things away so it's not like the club doesn't do horrendously stupid things with picks.

Pavlich vs McGregor looks bad in hindsight. Such a pity that decisions are made in real time, without the benefit of hindsight. The fact is that we had one opportunity to draft Pav - and one opportunity only - due to the draft rules at the time. So did every other club in the competition, which is also conveniently overlooked. The reality is that McGregor was the better bet at the time, so they drafted him as their 17yo. Pav went on to have a stellar SANFL season the following year and went from a player that 16 clubs overlooked with their 17yo draftee selection to a top-4 player.

Compare Pav with McGregor and things look bad. Compare McGregor with the other players drafted as 17yo that year and he looks like an inspired choice.

Nobody (least of all me) has ever defended pissing away the Bock compensation pick on Tambling.

Johnston at last will finally be picked but will they continue to reward kids that have stood up or will they like I think they will fast track Petrenko as a favourite and actually played 2 decent SANFL games and drop Lyons who has done very well and dominated SANFl for 2 seasons.
Like to see them bring in Graham in place Of Smack fit or not as only rated 50 % chance and with his height and Lynch and Porps opening up spaces can stretch Port young defence .
Kerridge should be given another go as well as Grigg but who replace especially if Danger comes up.

So LJ, Grigg, Kerridge, Rutten and Danger(maybe) need to come back in this week. Who gets dropped?

And I think that Petrenko, Jaensch or Callinan would go in before those second 2.

Callinans name wont come up in any discussions at match committee anymore now Sando has come out and conceded the season is done. Season done = his career over unless we get a stack of injuries. Pets may come in, wasnt bad Saturday but Kerridge was better.

I would be very surprised to see Grigg or Kerridge named in the 22 this week. Both could well make the emergency list, but I doubt that either will play.

Rutten, Danger & LJ makes 3 changes. That's probably all we'll make.

Rutten <--> Hartigan
LJ <--> JJ
Danger <--> McKernan (fingers crossed)

Jacobs can ruck solo against Port's mediocre rucks.

Bling will be dropped for Danger, I personally dont think he deserves to be dropped, but under Sando being the sub is usually the kiss of death.

McKernan will keep his spot (sadly).

I would do,

Out: Smac, Jenkins, Tambling, Hartigan

In: Kerridge, LJ (have to try him out for the rest of the season), Dangerfield, Rutten

I would look at Grigg in if Thommo has injuries, but they haven't rested him up until now so I don't think they will.

Would not be suprised if Petz comes in either. We can't hold our ball in the fwd line. He can help.
