How big is Caire? Is the knock on his size?

Goldsworthy has got something about him. Very Stokes/Christensen like at this level. Seems to break games open, really like his attitude. Whether that translates to a higher level I'm not sure but he's got more going for him that Hitchcock or McIntyre IMO.

Caire is small yeah. I guess as a back that hurts him more then if he was a forward. He still is more then good enough to have at least been tried though.

D Caire is my favourite footballer at Westies because he is fearless, a good mark has pace and provides so much run out of defence.He is also a very disciplined defender but is extremely one sided and can get caught because of it.Is he worth a try.... definitely.
He is also taller than Rory Laird and I would say he is a few centimetres shorter than Luke Brown.
Personally I think he is every bit as as good as Brown only quicker.

Went to Unley yesterday and thought Brodie Martin was very good. Actually the whole Crow contingent for Sturt played good games. Jaensch had thirty touches but didn't seem to be very damaging with them while Graham won the rucks hands down and gave Sturt first use of the ball on many occasions.Riley was good in the trenches and is a hard nut.

My criticism is for Crouch only because he is a such a talent.
He bludged yesterday IMO, I know he was coming off an injury but how lazy was he.
No second efforts, loved giving off these quick little handballs that didn't clear the area and still had the receiver in trouble and he didn't provide a shepherd or run on to receive the ball back.
He trotted around the park rarely putting in a burst to make space or chase an opposition.

There were so many times yesterday when he could have taken the game on and ran hard but instead he chose to quickly hand off the ball and make it someone else's responsibility.
He is a kid, only 18 and one with exceptional talent but his work rate worries me. Someone needs to put a rocket up his ar*e, it comes so easy to him that he seems satisfied with picking up his 15 touches. He is not a physical player like Dangerfield but he could take a leaf out of his book on effort.
Maybe he was there only to get some match fitness but if he transfers that effort into the AFL then he will always be known as a good player not a great one.

As he learns the caper I'm sure he will improve this aspect of his game.
I maybe tough or harsh on Crouch but yesterday (and in other games as well for West) he just does enough and he is so much better than that.
I'm a fan of his just a frustrated one at present.

I have no problem with us having a reserves team in the VFL or NEAFL.

I don't think you would find a single intelligent football professional who would suggest what we're currently doing is the best thing for the club.

Personally, I think the Crows and Port players leaving the SANFL will kill that league (which is a financial dead man walking currently anyway) but I guess others disagree and that's not the core issue for me anyway.

Read the thread - my comment was to the ignorant poster who said the WA teams didn't want a reserves side. This has been covered.

Both WA AFL clubs have reserves teams, it was reinstated this season and has be trialled previously and never really has it found a balance or happy medium within the WAFL. Even now it's causing a lot of angst and trouble.

Yes, never previously has there been a satisfying system - THAT IS WHY THEY CHANGED. This is more evidence for us to look on as we decide to have a reserves team.

Angst and trouble? Evidence? Or just people's self interest towards not wanting change?

Now go and do some research about how AFL clubs have treated some of the VFL clubs that they've been aligned with and how poorly they've been treated.

This is a post that has very little relevance. Ignoring the fact that the VFL would be non existent if it wasn't for continued AFL club monies, we are discussing what is best for the Crows. If you think the Crows would poorly treat any club they would be aligned to, then you obviously have little respect for the integrity of our club.

I'll also remind you of just how much the AFL and all concerned suffer from a "pack mentality", "I'll have what she's having" and following of the latest gospels.

There have always been reserve teams. We're ABANDONING a recent mantra.

If the WCE & Freo Dockers put a reserves side into the WEAFL will help lift the standard to a (somewhat) acceptable level, much higher than it currently is. I'm hoping the club is working on the political and economic side of the argument to get the WCE & Freo Dockers on side and a few sponsors who will fund this move.

I also agree with your statement on the removal of the Crows/power players from the SANFL and how that will financially cripple and ultimately kill the league.

My position in this is, by removing the Crows/power players from the SANFL will cause the SANFL clubs to recruit and over pay more ex-AFL players to compensate that loss as they won't be willing to acknowledge the help the Crows/power have on the league or accept the drop in standard that will happen. Therefore, they will recruit more players, overpay them and place a much higher level of stress the clubs bottom line.

The SANFL commission needs to look at the things they will lose, if they want to keep their (alleged) integrity of the league. Hopefully they are not stubborn enough to make the wrong decision as history will tell us, they will lose out on this deal if they make the wrong choice.

Yeah but if the WAFL clubs are anything like the SANFL clubs - that agreement could be dissolved very quickly to ensure they don't have those reserves sides. From my understanding, those 2 WA reserves side were very tentative and very hard to be put in place and don't see it as a long term deal.

Really can't agree with this at all.
There is already an import rule in place on the number of players you can recruit from interstate every year.

This won't change at all and the SANFL are in part already a development league.
Who develops the footballers that get drafted out of SA. It is the SANFL.... by way of the under 16's, under 18's, reserves and league teams.The best will get drafted and the rest will work there way into the league teams as they have for a hundred years or so. There was life before the AFL and the competition thrived then.
Sure crowds are down but they will find their equilibrium and the competition will still exist without those AFL listed players. If you haven't got them available any more then your club will be forced to find replacements, I guessing most of those will come from your juniors.

My club West had only one AFL listed player playing for them on the weekend and that was Crouch. Whether the AFL players stay or go will be of no real concern to us at all.
The two clubs that will have most to lose are Port and Sturt but they'll adjust to the new conditions.

Those who have their AFL glasses on should realise that there is actually a core of around 10,000 people who enjoy the SANFL every week and really don't want a compromised league which includes the Crows and Power. These followers love the league the way it is and want it to remain the way it is. It's really not about the AFL players, it's about the team you follow and that won't change. They'll still go because they love standing on the outer and enjoying this brand of football.

Will the league get weaker, maybe but that won't matter as you will follow your team not individual players.
As long as players are drafted from all levels of the SANFL (juniors and league) then the relevance of the SANFL to Australian football overall will be assured and their standing will be just as important then as it is now.

If the SANFL does die then football in this state dies as they are the ones who pay for grass roots football where all the players are drafted from.
This won't happen however because of the assets and the investments the SANFL have in Adelaide oval and West Lakes.
Will there be testing times for clubs..Yes many are already struggling and adjustments will be made but where AFL listed players eventually play is not going to seal the deal one way or the other.

The SANFL will work out what's best for them, it may included the Crows and Port Power but it certainly won't matter if their not involved, they will exist and be relevant whatever happens.

That being said, he's an interesting prospect. Liked the look of him in PS. NEEDS some muscle though.

Then he turned 16 and moved into the under 18 competition and somehow lost the passion and this didn't allow his development to continue. During his last year of under 18's footy, that passion and desire returned and allowed him to be drafted.

Hopefully he us 100% committed to being the best player he can and nit just coast by and end up out f the system in 3 years time.

I took an interest in him over the pre-season. Out on the track he was very chirpy, loved giving a bit of lip. And I loved seeing that from a first year player. The boys call him The Rat, and he reminds me a bit of a Ballentyne. A little shit that'll get under the opposition's skin. Hopefully he continues his development and does well. With our draft restrictions, hopefully we've found another player deep in the draft.

Was a member of the AIS squad but got kicked out for essentially being lazy - not maintaining "respectable" fitness levels I think. After being dropped back from it, he started working harder again and got consecutive BOG's for the Cannons. The "issue" with his fitness seems to have thankfully for us got him to drop to pick 81. If he gets that fitness up, will be the steal of the draft. Would almost have liked to see him given either an extended pre-season at start of the season or a mini pre-season mid-season with the promise of AFL game time as motivation to fast-track his development. Should be moved in to live with Danger and the Kedge at the performance centre or with Sloane or VB to have someone to follow a la Goodwin-Vince.

The "baulk" is one of the most underrated traits a footballer possesses. Lyon and Lynch have that in their games as well. Just gives you that extra bit of time to compose yourself.
