Seems pretty obvious - having the team all play the same style is the number one priority. The next priority is having them do it in the best comp possible.

Worst case scenario is what we have now - send them back to a play in a different side that has completely different structures and team rules (such as the Crows wanting long kicks from defense to clear a zone, but Westies might play a handball heavy style instead).

Eventually we'll start making decisions that are best for the club and its supporters, instead of what's best for the local league.

Hopefully the SANFL cave in and make us the 10th team. That would be the smart decision and will also remove the buy.

The worse case scenario IMO would be to put a team in the SAAFL and have some knob head king hit a crows players as a wy of making a name fir himself.

Hopefully we can have a decision sooner than latter.

How do we gauge the performance of players in the reserves if they are playing kids or amateurs? I don't like it.

You can't and it would just be for fitness and match day fitness as they will win every week by 30 goals.

Anything below the SANFL/VFL/WAFL or NEAFL would be a waste of time.

Yeah, I assumed what Sando was saying is that ultimately they'd want them in the most competitive league out side of the AFL, which I suppose is the SANFL, but if they had to play VFL/WAFL/NEAFL, then they would. I can't imagine they'd bother if they had to play in a district league.

I don't see why the VFL option isn't more heavily discussed. Would the VFL teams be willing to fly to South Australia to play a round here? Each club would only have to do it twice a year, tops.

The standard in the SANFL reserves would be appalling surely? I can't see the standard in the SAAFL be any different. If the SANFL clubs get there way, we won't be competing in the league comp.

VFL all the way for me.

Yep, the VFL should be the number 1 objective and within 3 years we will have a national reserves competition.

However, anything less than that will be a waste.

Shutts tweeted the Crows would rather play amateurs than SANFL reserves. I reckon Triggy is still running the club.

I highly doubt it. Would be a costly exercise for a side who isn't financially backed by an AFL club.

I just find it strange Rucci is saying the SANFL reserves is the only option that will work. If we didn't win each game by 20 goals, I'd be disappointed.

The standard has to be better than that.

I go to the occasional Glenelg game, and TBH, the skill level is extremely poor. If we go another level below that, its just going to be uncompetitive IMO.

I've got an idea, instead of every year paying the players and Vlad more how about run a true reserves comp. Yes it would be expensive but if the players association really cared about the players wouldn't they be better off playing in a reserves comp?

There could be a compromise. The AFL backed teams would play an away game here, the non AFL sides can play both matches at home against the Crows.

Essendon, Geelong, Collingwood, Carlton are the 4 standalone sides at the moment. Richmond are getting a VFL team in 2014.

Thats 5 sides that could travel. Box Hill are pretty heavily backed by Hawthorn, perhaps they'd be willing as well.

in resent time, has the AFL ever said why they are against a national reserves competition?

Terrible

Edit - Although I wonder if that's their way of telling the SANFL that if they don't allow us a team in the league competition, you can forget about any Crows players playing in any form of the SANFL.

It's so simple. Port get the Magpies as their reserves. Crows reserves becomes 10th team. Wave farewell to the bye. Win for everyone. Everyone knows it, the SANFL clubs are just holding out and making up BS excuses for more money.

I took it to mean that the most important thing is having a stand alone reserves team, and if that means they have to play in a less competitive league as a result, then so be it.
Then why also say we want to play in the hardest competition possible?

Where was this SANFL integrity when Woodville and Centrals came into the league system in 1963?

Where was this integrity when they allowed Woodville and West Torrens merge in 1991? Why didn't they save them, if there integrity was so important?

Where was the integrity when the Crows and then Port went into the AFL?

Where was it when the were pushing for Port to leave the SANFL but git talked into keeping them?

Agreed ....how are they developing better than AP playing against men in the 2nd best comp in Aust

Doesn't make sense?

Plus there's NO EVIDENCE that the reserves comp over the years has been the best development model ....in fact the same issue you just raised has also been raised that the jump between resrves & AFL is getting greater each year

So ......better competition doesn't = better development .......weaker competition but playing together does = better development?

The hardest competition might not let us
so is that good that we play in an inferior league ......at least Dowdell & Orval will get better competition .....not sure Crouch, Henderson and Wright will be that overjoyed playing in SANFL reserves or SAFA

Only viable option is VFL and watch the outcry when all the costs of that exercise is revealed for NON PROVEN results .......your membership dollars at work people

You know every other club has one now right? Is everyone stupid except us? Why aren't we rolling in wins, flags plus all the $$$ we are saving
