Hartigan is a monster. His performance has been a rare highlight in what has been a (another) miserable year for South. Dominated the 1-on-1 contests with Andrew "Money Bags" Ainger today, with Ainger's only kick for the day coming from a questionable free kick. Does remind me of a young Talia when he was starting out with South.

Wow! Thanks for the update.
I saw the stats and assumed Ainger must have been injured early. He's THE leading goalkicker in the SANFL this year, and Hartigan kept him to 3 touches and no score for the whole game, in a side that lost by 40 points?!?
All that while getting a lot of the ball himself.
He's really coming along nicely.

I think most can agree there is a high chance Riley won't make it, but has shown enough and has produced form to grant him an opportunity to prove himself, especially now.

Disregarding all this, I would just like the club to throw a player like him in simply because of his tackling. It's pathetic how bad the side is at tackling and I think we need some examples.

You mention that Lyons has no "weapon", I'd be interested, do you think players develop a "weapon" or a simply gifted one at birth?
Where did I say that Lyons has "no weapon"? I certainly don't remember writing that.

What I have said is that Lyons is not particularly quick - and that's judging by the standards of a club which is not exactly renowned for it's leg speed (aside from Dangerfield). I have questioned whether he has enough weapons to make up for this deficiency, given that the pace at AFL level is much higher than the SANFL where he has already proven his ability to excel. The question is whether he can translate his SANFL excellence to AFL excellence. On that, the jury remains well and truly out. I've liked what I've seen of him so far, but his lack of pace could well hurt his prospects in the long term.

As for weapons.. they are things like pace, skills - particularly the ability to hit a target reliably, under pressure, the ability to kick long and accurately, the ability to win one-out contests (eg Sloane), being a strong overhead mark, the ability to win the ball at the bottom of the pack, decision making, the ability to spot a free player and hit them accurately. Lyons has some (possibly many) of these - the one he notably lacks is pace.

I think Lyon ran a 2.99 in the 20m sprint at the draft combine which is very quick. It looks like he chooses to use his speed in bursts to break away from packs ect.

Siggins a good chance to debut this week you'd think. 19 possessions - 11 of which were either rebound or inside 50s - at close to 90% again in the magoos, and Roosters KPD Todd Miles looking at a 1 week suspension.

Who does Siggins even play for?

Would we put Sam Shaw straight back into our team? Has played two reserves games I reckon. Hopefully league this week then Crows the week after :)

Read my post again and see if you can figure it out :p . He has been quietly amassing 20 touches at silly DE since recovering from his ankle injury, now an opportunity presents itself hopefully he can take it.

Shaw's had one run in the reserves, took 10 marks and kicked 5 goals on the weekend. Given the Bays league team got pumped by Sturt, of all teams, on the weekend you'd think Shaw will play league this week. Put in a good performance and it would give the selectors something to think about, for sure.

Dalwood (FB) is also like to miss again though injury so we could be without our FB and CHB this week against Sturt. Great opportunity for Siggins, hopefully.

Still think this 'Lyons is slow thing' is just a myth that has been perpetuated, ever since Harper tried to invent a feeble excuse for why he wasn't being picked on radio. Hasn't looked to significantly lack pace in the games I've seen him play, time and space yes, but than he's barely had time to get up to AFL speed.

Crouch and Kerridge back for their respective sides. Graham also back for Sturt (was injured last week) Martin is also injured apparently, and not playing this week either.

Shaw and Siggins have made the move up to the seniors from the reserves also.

No Reilly for some reason.

No Reilly? That's odd, maybe he has retired.

On to SANFL reserves, it needs 6 of 8 sides to okay it which improves things considerably.

But I hope we aren't tying our bid with Ports. If they are pushing to keep their recruiting zones etc and all afl players they will be a force. It would be hilarious if they okayed the Crows and not Port. Port won't have any options but to accept it.

It seems we are good at playing players back into form by giving them a week off - even if they don't have the bye...

Reilly has back soreness

I fully expect him to "pull a Porplyzia" and return without having played an SANFL game

Probably put it out during one of his trademark 'hands on hips' moments during the Sydney game.

What's the bet that he comes straight back in for Laird who gets a "rest" next week (meaning a month back at West)?

Reilly out with a sore back, maybe from carrying all those frowns

Ah yes, the old "back injury" as soon as you get dropped, whatever helps him deal with the fact that he was dropped I suppose... Oh well at least he signed a nice shiny new contract a couple of weeks ago.

Also, I just love the fact that the guy we recruited as a backup for Jacobs is so far off pressing for selection that he isn't even considered the #1 ruck at his SANFL club. Surely there were better options available, Kurtze for a start...

Shaw in for the Bays, Kerridge having a run for the Blues, Crouch for West. Hope all three stake their claim.

Siggins in extended squad for North. Hope he makes the cut.
I just hope Lyons is resting his weary body this week!

Siggins, Atkins dropped from extended squads for North/Sturt game. Quarter time. Sturt kicked with a massive wind advantage in first quarter and are up by 13pts at quarter time. Riley missed part of quarter due to a cut in the mouth. Kerridge got a couple early touches then did not see him on the screen until the last couple minutes of first quarter. Not sure if he was off hurt or not. Tambling did a few nice things. Been impressed with Greenslade and Hinge so far for the non Crows players.

Quarter time in Sturt v North game:
Tambling: Finding a heap of the footy, probably close to Sturts best, however his disposal lacks polish. Unfortunately for a guy of his experience and ability he should looking to do far more with the footy than that.
Graham: Looked alright, seems with it and keen to stay involved with the game.
Riley: Copped one in the gob and spent some time getting fixed up, goes in hard, but again lacking that polish to really start demanding a spot in our side.
Kerridge: Much like his last couple of AFL games just doesn't look with it, appears tired and struggled to find the football.
McIntyre: Non-existant.

Grigg looks like he's playing well again for Norwood with 10 touches and 3 clearancews in the first quarter.

Half time in Sturt North game. 8 goal to zero quarter leaves North up by 37. Sturt had more scoring shots at the poor end than North, but managed to drop one short, kick one into man on the mark, bounce one on the boundary line and kick one out on the full. Tambling did a little better with his disposal, not much. Managed to get flattened in a ruck contest and then have 2 players sit on him while he was still down. Riley off again with a seperate blood rule to the first one. Sturt had rub of the green. Kerridge again was unseen on the tv screen for much of the quarter and when he was on screen did little of any value. Non Crows who impressed that quarter were Amato (very draftable), Thring, Greenslade, Harms and Hinge. Greenslade goes at the ball very hard and has quick hands.

Grigg dominating for Norwood. 18 touches half way through second quarter. Needs to play for us whilst his confidence is this high.

19 touches, 4 clearances, 3 I50's and a goal to half time, 4 more touches than the next highest possession winner. Surely he must be rewarded with a shot in our side.

As for the Sturt match, much of the same really, Tambling finding a heap of it, but for little effect playing off the half back flank. Riley was okay without doing anything special, Graham pretty useless, Kerridge invisible until the last minute of the half and whilst McIntyre did a couple of special things and was better than his first quarter, still didn't find anywhere near enough of it.

Tambling will probably get picked based on "experience".
