Went today and I thought Lyons was Glenelg's best by a mile.
He just knows where to go around stoppages and he was always providing a link. Sure he's not a run and carry midfielder but he is a darn good accumulator of the ball.
Westies at times put a pretty heavy tag on him at the centre bounces with Slattery and he was still able to do some pretty good things against overwhelming odds I must say....Impressive game by a kid who tries all the time.

Like what Shaw's did today when he found the ball. He has real penetration in his kicks and he raises the eyes. Glenelg were under the pump all day and he though he certainly didn't rack up big numbers, what he did was clean.

Crouch is an enigma, pure and simple. In close around packs he finds the ball and extracts it or does deft little handballs that a lesser player would never make. Given room he can hurt a team with his disposal but he has a tendency to handball off quickly. He is a talent!
His bloody work rate frustrates me...Crouchy needs to work so much harder off the ball.He doesn't chase hard enough, a short burst is not applied pressure. He could also work harder at making himself an option further down the field.
Written this twice now but it is what I've witnessed. There are a lot less talented players at West who are more valuable than Crouch because they work their butts off. It should be the other way around because he has talent to burn.
Eighteen disposals is a pretty good day out but he could be do so much more and when he realises it watch out.

I think he'd be a decent player, but really isn't what we're in need of, our list is already clogged up with enough slow, clearance winners.

Jolly's the one that interests me, extremely highly rated as a junior but struggled up on the Gold Coast, seems to be relishing playing off half back at Glenelg and is one I think we could bring in and quite easily find a spot for in our back 6, especially if we're keen on moving Smith to the midfield.

I thought we were going to rookie him last year to be honest. Not sure he'll last to the RD this time round, though earning it in the SANFL may have done him some good after a lean few years at GC.

Starting to wonder how good the selection of Crouch was. Looks a pretty ordinary choice when you see how Olly Wines and Ben Kennedy are going. Centainly not a dud yet, but he's a bit underwhelming IMO ATM.
I wouldn't say ordinary but the gap between Jaeger O'Meara and Crouch is huge

I asked this last week. Looks to be a good solid player rather than a star, which to me amounts to a disappointment

Kennedy would have been 3rd or 4th on the list of availables, if not him it would have been Toumpas. Kennedy whilst talented had some serious question marks over his attitude. Certainly the difference between O'Meara and the rest is considerable, even Wines.

I wouldn't be judging terribly harshly at this stage though, still very much early days in all of their careers and unlike the others Crouch has had injuries and also had to fight the massive glut of similar style/level midfielders at our club. I personally see quite a bit of Luke Hodge in him, especially the way he kicks the ball and similar to Hodge I think he's struggled to impact a little due to perhaps not quite understanding how to apply his game at the top level and needing to develop a work rate.

I think everyone needs to realise that just because a player is well developed at 18, doesn't necessarily mean he's instantly ready for AFL. From what I've seen he has great talent, I wouldn't compare him to Hodge lightly, however there's a lot he needs to work on in his game, we just need to be a little patient.

O'Meara 12 games, Wines 12 games, Crouch 4 games.

Huge gap.
Never referred to Wines so something else you've made up.

If you can't acknowledge that O'Meara is a special talent and streets ahead of any other debutant this year then you need to watch more kids play.

Crouch is a young kid finding his way. People that are bagging him have no idea. It has taken Danger a long time to get to where he is now and Crouch is only in his second year. He has good skills and is hard at it. Like all AFL players he is training all week with the crows and playing with West. Give him time to develop.

Not bagging the guy at all, just making an observation. He isnt the out and out superstar many here thought he would be, and we probably need him to be. Not his fault at all.

Would love to see Grigg get a look in this week, Lyon to come back in and Hartigan to get rewarded for his strong sanfl form

Those writing off crouch at this stage, it's just laughable and let's not forget many people also put the pen through Luke Hodge in relation to his high draft pick during his first 2-3 seasons

Crouch will be a Gun and I'm hearing that he is being restricted by a hamstring / lower back related issue that is not serious enough to keep him out but it is impacting movement and work load

People also need to have all the info before making such judgements

In 4 games Crouch has averaged 20 touches and 4 tackles. For what is essentially a first year player, that is outstanding. If you actually thought he would come in and dominate, you're a silly. Will become a star, just be patient

No doubting that, and injury worries alone are a reason to dampen enthusiasm. I have great faith that he will be a good player for us, but again not the player we need him to be given our draft issues. It comes with being a high draft pick for Adelaide, we have so few we expect too much from the guys we get. Effectively he is a number 2 pick and expect him to be Bunji straight out of the box.

I will be ever so happy to be proved wrong in a couple years time.

This might be slightly off topic, but Grigg should have already played AFL.

and again, I'm more than likely about to be shot down for this (but) The AFC never appears to pick players on form - I realise the common position on this board is that players are generally picked on training form but I firmly believe that we miss the opportunity to play kids when they are well and truly in form.

by the Time the Crows do pick them, they've burnt through a good % of that form if not all of it.

The big difference is that Wines and Kennedy are quite rightly being allowed to develop in the top compeition surrounded by seasoned, experienced team mates while Craigy, errr I mean Sanderson (hard to tell the difference at the moment) has Crouch wallowing in the SANFL. He or Lyons are my pick for the next out the door.

I wouldn't say ordinary but the gap between Jaeger O'Meara and Crouch is huge

The gap between O'Meara and everybody else his age is huge. He's a freak. Let's not forget that Crouch hasn't exactly had the smoothest run injury wise either. I'm more than confident he'll end up one of the best from his draft class. Just needs to be playing regular AFL football, as the SANFL won't do shit for his development IMO.

Definitely not a Crouch hater, think he has talent to burn.
I been to every SANFL game he's played this season and there are parts of his game I think he needs to work on. I know the kids only 18 and he has plenty of time, he will get there but he must up his work rate.

This is a thread on SANFL performances where I thought posters wanted an objective opinion not gushing half truths.

Paranoid...who me!!!

Im not intending to be having a crack at Crouch, more so stating how elite O'Meara is. The only reason I'm comparing the two is they were both mini draft picks and there is a pretty big gap between the two. That doesn't mean Crouch won't be very good, but O'Meara would have been an unbelievable get. Suns are going to kill it, they've still got Jack Martin to unleash.

I can't believe we wasted our pick on Crouch! After all, four games is all we need to see how great a player will be....

Ablett: averaged 10 disposals a game after four games.
Pendlebury: averaged 11.75 disposals a game after four games.
Swallow: averaged 7.5 disposals a game after four games.
Bartel: averaged 13 disposals a game after four games.
Watson: averaged 8.5 disposals a game after four games.
Dangerfield: averaged 10.5 disposals a game after four games.
Selwood: averaged 16.5 disposals a game after four games.
Beams: averaged 17.25 disposals a game after four games.
Thompson: averaged 13.25 disposals a game after four games.
Kennedy: averaged 14.25 disposals a game after four games.
Cotchin: averaged 17.25 disposals a game after four games.

etc.....

FFS give the kid a chance. He's doing just fine, particularly seeing as though he's had an injury interrupted season. He'll learn that being lazy won't cut it in the AFL and hopefully Danger/Sloane will take him under his wing and mentor him in the ways of the AFL player. Calls from posters saying that he is 'ordinary' compared to a man child and a once in a decade freak are just embarrassing.

No chance. The kid is massively out of shape and seriously struggling in an ordinary side. He would be on no AFL recruitment list at the moment.
