Well, looks like Vader and Wayne' World have stamped LJ's papers.

Decision's been made then. He will be delisted without any further consideration
I have made very few comments about LJ. All of my comments have centred upon his continual non-selection.. wondering how long the club will persist with a player they obviously have no interest in selecting.

The bolded bit is wrong.

Callinan & Johncock both started the year in the best 22. Neither are in it now.

When it comes to LJ, he's clearly been the least preferred option of all our KPP forwards. He's been on our list for 18 months and he's played a grand total of one charity game in that time - at a time when we had a double digit injury list. JJ, Lynch & Smack have all been preferred to him (as was Tex - obviously). Smack's suspension lasts one more week - that's LJ's window. After that, Smack goes in & LJ goes back to North Adelaide... unless LJ pulls off a miracle.

Actually, I would suggest that if Jenkins has another stinker next week, it could be him that faces the axe to give LJ more games to prove himself. That is, of course, if LJ gets selected in the first place

Ask Matthew Smith :D

but honestly since being on our list, LJ has come high in the Ken Farmer medal (did he win it?) or alternatively injured.

I with you however, why would we have traded for a bloke we have no interest in playing - it defies logic, similar to the trade for Tambling TBH.

I think they were planning for the possible departure of Tiprat (which eventuated 12 months later). They went out and grabbed all the young KPP forwards they could get their hands on - JJ, Lynch & LJ, to bolster our existing stocks (Tex & Smack). Someone has to be last and LJ's efforts (or lack thereof) on the training track have ensured that it was him. Lynch has an outstanding work ethic. JJ has been very good, considering he's been asked to be our #1 KPP forward in his first full season. Smack has been there and thereabouts for ages. Tex kicked 50+ in the AFL last year for the first time. LJ was just left jogging on the spot, waiting for the dust to clear.

Possible.. but probably not. I think they'll want to see what he's capable of and Smack's absence has created a vacancy that he could fill. JJ's kicking for goal might be woefully inaccurate, but aside from that he's doing a pretty decent job.

But why get a leading forward like LJ, it still makes no sense, with the draft pick received from Armstrong you could have got a project KPF that would have had a similar output at AFL level.

the training track effort (or lack thereof) is that something that comes from the Crows, or rumour from the Swans board?

He maybe a Chris Ladhams and have all the natural talent but none of the application, but it just doesn't add up.

They threw a heap of darts at the board, hoping that one or two would hit the bullseye. Let's not forget that none of the players they grabbed were even close to "proven" players. JJ hadn't played a single AFL game. LJ had only played 2 with Sydney. Lynch was the veteran of the group, with a massive 4 games at St Kilda. Lynch & JJ have turned out OK. Smack continues to suck. LJ...

We have 5 KPP forwards on our list at present. Someone has to be last - and LJ is the unlucky player who either doesn't have the talent or doesn't have the work ethic required to get his name above the others at the selection table.

I have posted this in other threads but LJ was recruited as a defender, but when North kept playing him forward, his natural spot, and he kept kicking goals the AFC decided, with some contributing factors, they may as well do the same. I don't think there is a line through his name by a long shot.

I'm not questing your opinion, just curious of the source.

Out of interest, how many games have you seen of him live? you're talking as if it's every week. but with a SANFL of West, and a location of Melbourne, I have my doubts it's very many more than anyone else here.

but you're happy to declare that CEY had a good game based on stats??
i didnt say he played well

i have seen enough SANFL games of North on TV here in Melb to have an opinion on LJ .......and its not based on stats

Vader and Wayne's World.
:D for those statistically minded ...... 3 AFL games in 5 years

Crouch .... 7 games in 1 year

McKernan ..... 30 games in 4 years

Talent always comes thu ...even Mckernan who we lament at his slow development has played 30 games!

Do people think for one minute that if LJ was ready that he would have already been "trialled" as people call it

Shaw was rushed in
Crouch was rushed in
Laird was rushed in
L. Johnston has not been rushed in, with McKernan preferred ........people read the signs

His issue is intensity and competitive attitude ......yes it can be addressed ...but games i saw this year indicate his weaknesses are still pronounced

Who said that? ........he'll play when the club feels he has earned his spot .....not to give him a go as pushed on this board

I thought LJ was in great form just before Tex's injury and then he did his knee the same weekend?

he was every chance to play and replace tex

Not quite... LJ was injured the following weekend. It was between him and Lynch to take Walker's spot and Lynch was given the spot. Johnston then injured himself in the SANFL that weekend.

So incorrect on all fronts

Lynch was in the side before walker got injured, he took Hendersons role
Tex got injured, which meant Jenkins moved to Tex's position, and Mckernan played Jenkins role.

Lynch has created his own position in a way. Tex, Jenkins, smack and LJ can't do what lynch does all over the ground. This will make it much easier for walker and Jenkins next year, as they will be able to stay closer to goal, well tex will be at least

If grigg doesn't play this week I'm starting a petition. VB, Thompson, sloane, mackay, wright were horrendous on Friday. They probably cost us all of collingwoods goals

CYE played for Eagles league side today ......played well according to stats ...about time

CYE played in defence and did some nice things.Good size but he needs to be a bit more physical and back himself because he has some pace. He's learning the caper and well worth persisting with.
Definite potential there but stats do lie because his opponent for most of the game was one of the most influential players on the ground.
Tom Keough kicked four goals on him and really was a key factor in the win. Keough is a bloody good footballer.
Petrenko got concussed in a marking contest early on in the game and was very groggy when he was walked off.Played no further part in the game.
Tuck was superb!

Why the mocking laughter? McKernan has been selected ahead of him every single time, pretty much since LJ walked through the door after being traded.

Lord knows I'm no fan of McKernan.. but the reality is that the selectors have always chosen him ahead of LJ.

You dont think that is because of what Smack also offers in the Ruck?

Cmon Vader. As a mod you need to be better then this.

I agree. Jenkins is really out of sorts. He is having an almost zero influence on games. Smack had far more impact in the first half last week (except for stupid elbow) than Jenkins has been having. I would like to see a Smack LJ combo at some stage.

Lynch is the only one to cement his position. LJ must get a chance late in the year. Im not sure you can say that JJ has turned out ok. Jury is definitely still out IMO.

No worries mate -connection with a family member who has a lot of football knowledge which we discuss whenever we catch up as I am always keen to gain insight into the AFC and his SANFL side {which is not North}.

How many times have they had to make that decision this year?

Johnston had a great season in the SANFL last year, consistent and probably would have won the Ken Farmer Medal (missed out by two goals) if he wasn't selected for the Crows. How exactly do you think he was going to get a game when we had Walker and Tippett in the side? Two of the competitions best forwards. Then this year obviously he's been injured. This idea that "he's behind Smack" is delusional because your assertions rely on there being no variables. In Vader world that's fine, but it's not how the real world works. Things can change, Vader, like Tippett going to Sydney, Walker doing his knee, selectors deciding Jenkins can chop out Jacobs instead of McKernan, different match-ups required depending on teams played, weather, and heaven forbid, trying something new.

You have an inbuilt equation in your head that goes like this; time on list x games played = quality of player. I know it's hard for you to get out of black and white world and see shades of grey but if you tried your opinions would gain a bit more respect.

This talk of Johnston not being up to it is ridiculous. He hasn't had a chance yet. Last year we were flying and the Walker/Tippett combo was going ok. This year they wanted Jenkins to play that Tippett role. Johnston would have been the perfect replacement for Walker, but got injured right at the wrong time. He has now had two games back with North and should come in to play Full Forward this week. Johnston FF, Jenkins CHF, Lynch 3rd Forward. Hopefully Johnston takes his opportunity, which he should get for the remainder of the season.
