Need to vent.

Found out that quite a few people I know have dropped out of Med at UNSW/Newcastle after their first year. All good.. if they actually wanted to do Med in the first place.

I'm just so sick of people going into things they have absolutely no interest in because they have the marks. I wouldn't have been able to get that spot, but someone that just missed out is going to be busting their gut for 3 years because someone else that had an ATAR 2 points higher decided to do it on a whim. I can think of so many people...

I wish there was some way to weed them out. Shit system is shit.

Maybe Med should be Graduate only.

My course started with 37 people, after 3 years it whittled down to 5 :(

You shouldn't be surprised though, this stuff happens every year and will continue to happen, as most kids have no idea what they want to do with their lives. I was the same in picking my course, just picked it because I had no friggen clue what I wanted to do. I was just lucky and found I really liked it so stayed with it.

Its fine when you don't know what to do and you pick the course thats the highest (and then work your way down haha). The people I'm talking about had never been interested in Med, never done any prelim or HSC science subjects, didn't go into Arts (which was what they wanted) because they thought it was a waste of ATAR.

A "might as well" mindset is what I'm talking about.. its the same with Law with people looking to add an extra qualification with no interest whatsoever in doing Law. Such a waste of a HECS space.

Melbourne Uni's Melbourne Model is really the best structured program.

37 to 5 LOL! What course was that?!

While we're venting, how about this: I'm sitting at Sydney Uni trying to study for an exam for a subject that has never had an exam for it before. The content of the exma is terribly vague, the people who did the course last year - for which there was no exam - are surprised that the exam has taken the subject in a 180 degree direction to the subject last year, and the exam is one where if I fail it I fail the course!! Certainly not happy.

Go to hell ECOF1003!!! And what's worse is that I have another compulsory unit of ECOF1004 next Semester!!

Two exams in one day is the most tiring thing I've ever done. But when you finish.. geez, not many feelings that are better!

I've also realised I have a pretty fantastic memory if I read/write things a certain way. It will be abused :thumbsu:

Anyone on here ever heard of the microwave technique for studying for exams?

Nope. What is it?

What I basically do now is keep up with my readings (ultra super important) and summarise them + the cases. Few weeks before exam time, make a 2nd draft of cases and important notes and then 2 weeks before make final notes to take in and do full practice exams.

It's more of a time management technique to help you maximise your marks in an exam when you are running out of time. The principle is to set your microwave oven/egg timer/stopwatch/etc to 5 minutes, and then go off and do as many small chores around the house as you can in the timeframe, to show you that in an exam, 5 minutes can be a long time, so you should use every minute, as you can still pick up marks in the frantic last few minutes before the end.

I didn't really explain it too well but it can also be used to fight procrastination, if you are putting off doing something you don't like, such as writing that essay or tidying your room, you can use the technique to get started, say you set the timer for five minutes and tell yourself you are going to write as much as you can before the time is up. By 'shrinking' the challenge (i.e. telling your brain that you only have to write for 5 minutes), you're making it less daunting and thus easier to get started.

What other techniques have you guys used to help you study in the past? Do you think you would find the "microwave oven" useful?

Re: Grundy the Spud

Troll meh some more baby I will just hit you tomorrow. No hiding behind the keyboard for you.

& I already told you! I played an AFL game - just like you did. Except mine was post-broken ankle so I didn't really feel confident when a massive chick came on and so ran away.

Ok so I just saw this, so can I just say, that totally isn't the reason I didn't come to the tute today...

Depends on what sauce I have with my salad tonight, and whether or not it rains over 3mm this week.

With all the sexual tension between you and stat at the moment you might be lucky enough to get 3mm this week.

Sexual relief has been obtained, 3mm was not though.

Took a while to understand that this is perhaps a reference to the size of my manhood? Try harder next time.
