Isn't Scotch technically only Whiskey that is made in Scotland? A lot of people use the terms Scotch and Whiskey interchangeably though.
This is hands down the best Australian whiskey I have ever had in my life, Limeburners and Lark are close but this blew me away.

I went to the elysian whiskey bar on Brunswick St last night.

Not a bad little venue.

Didn't go crazy or anything, just had Oban 14 and Port Charlotte 10.

They have a very large list of whiskey's

Its The Glenlivet for me, i like it with a touch of soda or dry, it's very smooth and maybe a little too smooth, goes down pretty easy and a couple of times it has caught up with me a bit unexpectedly

I love scotch, scotch, scotch, scotch

What do we all drink? anybody really into it? every day and better scotch's list them, im talking straight up as well, no coke..

Everyday scotch - Ballie Nichol Jarvie - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bailie_Nicol_Jarvie

Seems to be rated quite well for a $35 dollar bottle i think it goes alright but i am no expert, being blended by the distillery Glenmorangie is a good thing too as there single malts are meant to be quite good, anyone try this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glenmorangie_Single_Malt

Also used to drink Justerini and Brookes which is pretty rough but another CHEAP bottle of whisky being about $32 bucks i think - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justerini_&_Brooks but donty bother buying this now as i think BNJ above is better and about the same price.

I know very little else about scotch tbh looking to learn something new form someone who knows,

Will say that you are meant to mix it with a tiny amount of water to bring out the flavour, this is also why you put ice in scotch, as when it melts it dilutes it slightly and brings out the flavour (apparently).

So what do we all drink, how do you take it? Educate me people, also anything about the way it is served would be good to know.

In terms of better whiskies i am pretty naive, but do like Talisker i think its called - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talisker
Glenmorangie is a very nice scotch. Very smooth, doesn't burn, nice after taste.
If your looking for nice scotches, another one is Aberlour. Highly recommend the Aberlour A'Bundah range.

I've tasted bottles from 4 different batches and they are all slightly different (you'd probably need to taste them back to back to notice) but they were all very good

Didn't realise they were now available Dan's. Last time I looked it was only available at more specialty bottle shops like Nick's or from overseas (which is where the bottles I tasted came from)

I used to work in a bottle shop where we stocked them. With my staff discount it's a bonus!

Funny how after downing a whole bottle of scotch in one night can turn you off for life.

Makes me ill even looking at these, what would have otherwise been lovely scotches, in this thread. Oh well.

******* stupid game
For a few years now, I've been a member of the Whisky Club. They pick a hard to get whisky and send it to club members. One bottle per month, although you can double up if you want. The deal is, it's free to sign up, they only charge you if you buy the whisky of the month. They send you details of the whisky, including cost, on Friday. You've got until midnight Sunday to opt out, and I've never had any problems doing so.

If you're interested, check out their past offerings page.

I got six of the 2017 whiskies, with the Tomatin 14yo port cask finish the standout. So far, I've got none of the 2018 offerings, but I'm looking closely at the April one, a 2008 Isle of Arran Moscotel Cask Single Malt...
