Good thread. Talisker, Chivas regal and Laphroaig for me. Johnnie red if I'm mixing. Also don't mind Glennfiddich and Glenlivet, and have had Macallan 21 y.o. before, which was magical.

Worst IMO is Ballantines. Just tastes cheap to me.

Recently tasted an Australian made whisky from Bakery Hill. Surprisingly good. Like...really good.

Mate of mine beer bonged 3/4 of a remaining bottle of Johnnie Red, disgusting stuff.

Just starting to really get a taste for Scotch/whiskey, great for when you only want one glass of something or as a nightcap after a few drinks. Not sure I'd want to try drink too much of it in one sitting though.

Started with Jameson, then Glenfiddich and really liked The Glenlivet which we bought for the first time the other day but will definitely try a few mentioned here. It would be great to be able spend over the $100 mark to see how much of a difference it makes but have to settle for encouraging the wife not to bring home another bottle of Black Douglas :).

Only drink scotch on special occasions. Highland park (either 12 or 18) is my usual preference.

Have had the same from irish/british barmen in melbourne bars/pubs who think you want a rundown of whisky history and their personal life story when really you just want them to stfu and get you the drink you asked for.

Empty of Penfolds Grange in the background? Fine taste and deep pockets sir!
I can tell you it's not my everyday drinking wine that's for sure. Had a bottle of '85 a couple of years ago. Magic wine.

Yes you're right it is, I do occasionally mix it and Glen Moray up.

That's another one I don't mind. Glen Moray hits a good spot on the 'price/quality' scale.
Yep Glen Moray is an excellent entry level single malt.

Drinking Abelour at the moment. Not bad.

Oh yeah - Japan is starting to make some damn fine whiskys as well!
Damn straight! Been into Yamazaki and Nikka for a while now, both very good :thumbsu:

Of the Scotch's, my fave's would be Auchentoshan, Lagavulin, Oban, Ardbeg.

For everyday whiskey it's Chivas for mine. I just find Johnny to be too rough these days once you've been used to better products.

Great thread.

I had started to get a whisky collection going before my wife decided that it was time to go for a Masters degree.

Started on Johnny Walker Green which is pretty good. Have a few various blends, Dimple 15yo, JW Black, a JW Blue that was a christmas present to myself, Chivas, and some of the other basics. Favourite of them, however, was a bottle of Old Pulteney 12 year old, which, in my opinion, beat the piss out of the Blue.

while i am very much a sherry drinker i have a few single malts at home, presently i have

Bunnahabhain 12
Talisker 18
Dahlwinnie 15
and some Tasmanian single malt which i havent taken out of its box yet, not lark (it was a gift)

not sure mate, ill have a look when i get home. The bloke who gave it to me is a sommelier so i imagine its decent

my "cellar" flooded a couple of weeks ago (I didn't realise till yesterday)

$1500 worth of scotch damaged

in reality it is only the labels, but presenting $200 bottles of scotch with no labels really doesn't feel the same.

Crap news, but as long as you can label them to some degree or even invest in a decent decanter? one of those glass or crystal things?

For price and quality you cant go past Glenlivet, you can mix it or drink it neat. Im not much of a fan of the smoky/peaty flavors. My favorites are Glenrothes, Glenfarclas, Glenmorangie and Dalwhinnie. Had a really nice kiwi scotch last xmas, about $90 and was super smooth.

Started drinking a bit of the Irish Whisky Slieve Foy as well, very very nice. :)

Overeem? That's supposed to be a very good drop, but I've never tried it.
Might have been 'Sullivans Cove' meant to be a great whisky. Three types from memory.
