Girlfriend bought me a nice royal doultin crystal decanter for a gift.

Any suggestions for filling it? I like most forms of whisky, but don't especially like irish whisky or peat bombs.

Anything under 200 would be okay

If you know anyone going overseas there's a Glenfiddich aged in Red Wine casks exclusive to Duty Free and about $150 a bottle.

Wild Turkey 'Master's Keep' about to be released. 17 years old and 88.9 proof. Looking forward to getting a bottle. Apparently the US gets 20k bottles, we get 10k and Japan gets 6k. Bourbon market must be very strong here.

Single malts Lagavulin is my fave, got taken to a Whiskey tasting night with my very wealthy Scottish Director, learned alot.

Just started in with the Japanese Whiskeys, superb, like they have taken everything that was learned by others to make their own crackers.

It's why Tasmania is churning out quality whisky after quality whisky.

Have recently become fairly whisky-obsessed after being a hardcore craft beer and moderate wine enthusiast. Here are my purchases over the last two months (in order of buying):

Glenlivet 12
Glenmorangie 10
Monkey Shoulder
Bailie Nicol Jarvie
Ardbeg 10
Talisker Port Ruighe
Lagavulin 16
Laphraoig 10
Teacher's Highland Cream
Ardbeg Uigeadail
Johhnie Walker Green Label
Spey River Double Cask

Went Islay crazy for a little while there but realised I was drinking far too many $$$ worth of whisky regularly, so found a couple of reasonable budget drops in BNJ and Teacher's to stem the bleeding. I like all of the whiskies I have bought other than Monkey Shoulder, which just has one particular off-flavour which I can neither put my finger on or move past. Ardbeg 10 has to be my favourite, though I adore the Uigeadail and Lagavulin as well. Some nights I love the Talisker Port Ruighe and sometimes the sweetness from the Port casks is a little too much. Picked up a bottle of JWG to drink (very nice but not really worth $80) and two to sell in the future. Spey River DC is a reasonable drop without being outstanding - for $45 I'm happy enough with it but it's a vatted malt rather than a single malt as stated on the label. I'd love to be able to justify blowing $150 on Lark but I think my next purchase will be another Ardbeg 10 once it's on special for $70 at Dan's again.

I highly recommend caol ila 12 and Highland park 12

BNJ is great value for a cheapish blend as I am sure you have discovered.

Johnnie Black is pretty versatile too

I just polished off a bottle of Auschentochen 10... not bad

I have tried the Caol Ila and was very impressed. I notice it's currently $85 via delivery at Dan's, which is very tempting. I'll have to check out Highland Park; have only heard good things.

Does anyone know what the future of BNJ holds? Everything I've read online suggests that it's been discontinued and is becoming difficult to track down in Europe.

It seems to have a cycle where it is on special every 6ish weeks.

On special now for 89.95 (online only) which is stupid because they match prices, but not there own.

It seems to have a cycle where it is on special every 6ish weeks.

It's just how DM's operates. Same thing goes for wine and to a lesser extent, beer. They have their own advertised specials every week and also beat any competitor's special, which can happen any time. Lagavulin goes from $105 to $85, Glenmorangie $70 to $60, Ardbeg from $82 to $70, Laphroiag from $82 to $70, Talisker from roughly $80 to $66. They're the main base-range of decent single malts that I've noticed varying in price. Here's hoping there are some big discounts leading up to Father's Day because my Islay stocks are running low!
