Sad to say I can remember when 3MP opened in a small funky round building at Chadstone shopping centre, when that was only still basically a strip of shops surrounded by some car parks. Used to go every saturday morning with my parents.
Interesting.
They've had a chequered history since starting in 1976.
At one stage in the mid '80s, they were one of the top-rating music stations (after 3ak switched from music to their ill-fated talk format, mostly networked from Sydney), but now they rate so low that they don't even get on the survey results.

They started before '76. I find it interesting that they are saying it started in the seventies. I was married by then.

Can still remember standing outside this round building watching and listening to the music. The station was originally from Frankston. Can't recall, perhaps they weren't at Chaddy very long, but they were definately there.....and in my teenage years, which were in the '60s

I've googled it but can't find anything at all in reference to my memories. I'll ask my mother, hoping she can remember. She's 85:D and still pretty well up with everything.

Yes my recollection was that they were based in Frankston too, the MP stood for Mornington Peninsular. I thought they started in the 70s though. I have a relative that worked there for nearly all his working life and I'm pretty sure he started in the 70s not long after the station came into being (my recollections of anything don't go back as far as the 60s).

Well, it is Wikipedia, so who knows? :D I'm not young, but nor am I old enough to remember 3mp starting.

I love Wiki, but some of the references are obviously dodgy. I once saw a bike forum used as a reference for a "fact" about Greg Lemond.

They started .....
Are you from around Chaddy? Have you seen the "I Grew Up In *suburb*..." Facebook pages? They're not bad for some reminiscing.

I grew up in South Oakleigh, then my parents' street became East Bentleigh. The "I grew up in East Bentleigh" Facebook page isn't too bad, as are some of the others about this side of town: Moorabbin, Clayton/Clarinda, and "Historic Oakleigh and Surroundign Suburbs"

I still remember Chaddy being relatively small. I started going there a lot when I got my license, and it took me yonks to find my way around it, then I got lost after they did the massive extensions. After some car park anxiety/'freak-outing' on a Christmas Eve many years, I never went back.
Being single and having no kids makes avoiding Chaddy much easier. :D

Hmm, I seem to have gone off on a tangent. p

I spoke to mum, she can't remember anything about 3MP, remembers all the times we went to Chaddy though. Damn, I wish I knew how to find out.....because once I was married we moved away from the area, then started going to Southland. Have rarely been to Chaddy since.

I don't go on facebook, and I think I might be quite a tad older than you......we went to the opening of Chaddy. It was fascinating and so different and modern for the time.

I grew up in East Bentleigh.

Well then, here ya go. :thumbsu:

I'm not really on Facebook, either; I'm on there with a fake name so I can see group pages, and business pages, etc, etc, without old "friends" annoying me. :D
There's some grouse old photos on there, like this. There's also stacks and stacks of old school photos.
Do you remember when the corner of East Boundary and Centre Rd was a roundabout? I think I do....just

Geez, I'm not that old.:p Great picture though. Very interesting to see it like that...... thanks

...although I admit east boundary road was mostly dirt with a bit of bitumen and plantation down the middle when we moved to the area..

I remember when Chaddy was new, not sure I remember when it was actually opened. We went there a few times but then other shopping centres opened closer (Doncaster for example) so didn't go for years. Not keen on it these days as it's so huge (every Doncaster is about four times the size it used to be).

Ha. I don't remember the dirt road at all, but I vaguely remember the roundabout. There are more similar photos on there, of Bentleigh and Moorabbin, too.
There are many old pics of Chaddy on the web

I don't go to any of the big shopping centres now, way to big. I get lost in the carparks, then get lost inside the damn place. I live not all that far from Knox city now and in 20 years, I've been there no more than 6 times

Perhaps I am that old!:oops::p

Where's Viney?! He was also a no-show on Footyology.Roco seemed to be taken aback a bit by his non-appearence.

No Andy Maher either. Kevin Hillier was on. Could some be taking holidays now, now that the footy has finished? Might be staggering the holiday times instead of all at once over xmas.

I thought I heard Marco say Harf was sick. Not sure about Maher as I didn't hear his show (would have switced on if I knew he wasn't on ;) )
