Good to hear Dr Turf back on KB's show. He has had me in tears this morning.

He said he was at the races over there, but didn't eat the Beaten Favorite Vindaloo.

Dr Turf is always good value.:thumbsu: Should be more of him on SEN.

Somebody from SEN has come onto this forum and said that Tony is on a full time salary. As far as i'm aware he has never actually said it on air. But when he did those AFL season highlights overnights during the christmas new year period someone from sen said on here that Tony is on a full time salary or something and it was cheap for SEN just to make him do those highlights packages for their midnight to dawn shows.

I also made the assumption in regards to the rest of the gladiators as Tony said a fair few times on his show in previous years when they were doing it from 12-2 that his guests were coming in volunteer.

It could be different now as they start before 11 but i'm not completely sure. At best they might get 1 wage for all 4 of them and then they might decide to use that money for before the program on meals or drinks or parties later in the year.

They are all educated guesses.

I have been critical of the way SEN treats listeners and the way it seems the mgt run the station.
I thought we had read here that the overnight monetary situtation had been resolved or sorted out , but this smelly topic wont go away .
Treeman you seem to have some knowledge or at least listen to what they say overnight more than most of us.
What do you think determines if someone is good enough or not good enough to be paid.
What determines if someone is lucky or unlucky enough to be paid or not paid.
I use to run a factory many years ago and everyone from the cleaners to the delivery drivers to the part time tea lady to my secretary all were paid
for their work

Why do you care so much ?

If they aren't happy with the situation, they can walk away.

Let them fight their own battles.

That's kinda the problem with the radio industry. Management can treat them like shit as it is impossible to get a job in radio that pays as if someone leaves they will soon be replaced no matter what. Even if you look at the local radio station in Adelaide that is usually number 1 or 2 for the Adelaide Metro area they don't even pay their overnight producer. This is a number 1 rating station yet they can't pay them. I am not exactly sure if this is still the case but i know it was a couple of years ago. I don't imagine it would have changed as often midnight to dawn announcers to get their son, daughter or brother, even friends to produce for them. Plus the overnight announcer once mentioned he got less than $20 an hour. That was about 5 years ago. They'd be getting less than $25 an hour now. A kind of sucky wage considering the hours they do. But again it comes down to the industry. People will do almost anything to get jobs to get their foot in the door.

Noblanks i am just a very close listener i'm not involved with the industry but i sometimes tape the midnight to dawn shows on SEN as i listen to them from Adelaide and then listen to them on my mp3 player in the next few days. Whilst reading some of your comments on here i listen closely to hear what was exactly said when you make your comments and observations.

Well I can understand why SEN wouldn't pay guest hosts in a midnight to dawn program, considering it is a non-rating time slot and they should only have to pay one presenter at a time in that time slot which is kinda fair enough.
But not paying a full time midnight to dawn host for 7 nights a week is kinda stupid. I'm not entirely sure how BP and Franklin get paid but from reading comments on here and listening to the station it appears they get some form of payment. Whether it is too much is another thing. I'd imagine they'd have to pay SEN management some money as they apparently leased that time slot? Well that was the rumour, not sure how true that is. Then they would have to earn money from the advertisers during that times lot and the listeners if they are getting people to pay for those $100 memberships.
Then i'd imagine some form of payment would be worked out for Franka and BP.
If you are interested to know more just ask i might know the answers.

BTW Tony S is a father and a husband with a wife and kids as well, and obviously they are the most important things in his wife, esp since they go to school, and when he was doing the midnight to dawn show, he probably wouldn't get the oppotunity to see much of them at all.

Yeah kinda true. Although if you look at it this way once he left the mid-dawn shift and then went to sleep for 8 or so hours ready for the kids when they came home. I think it probably would have affected his relationship with his wife more.

Just a thought.

Exactly.

God knows what a guy like Benny C would do to get a gig on SEN midnight to dawn :D and there are plenty more like him out there.
Getting paid would be a bonus.

Its all about supply and demand.

These people know they have to start from rock bottom, they know what to expect to get a foot in the door and its all on the understanding that the big rewards will come much further down the track.

KB's Hall of Fame Interviews >> Snoran's Feature Thursday Interviews.

Great to hear quality in depth sporting interviews by someone who either knows quite a lot about the person being interviewed and/or has done some quality research.

Snoran ums and ahs through his interviews talking to people he doesn't know enough about.

I have been listening to KB on morning radio for over 10 years.

I know he has his critics, but he is a very good interviewer, has a very good knowledge of a lot of different sports, and is always prepared for his interviews.

KB is fine, until he gets that hypocritical, self-righteous egotistical moron on his radio program, Patrica Smith ...

Good god, is Smith the most irritating and sanctimonous personality in the sports industry today ...

That caller who called the last touchdown live, stooged Doran a bit.

Because of Janet Jackson and Nipplegate, the Superbowl coverage is on 5 minute delay. I was following it on the web, which I assume that bloke was too, and saw the touchdown about 5 minutes earlier.
Doran just dismissed the 5minute delay as a "conspiracy theory". As if the caller is still on dialup internet.

I think you must resign for making comments like that...

I was following the game on my PC at work and that touchdown happened about 5 minutes before the caller called it and called it off the TV coverage.

The caller confused me actually cause I didn't know about the delay and I thought that guy must have been calling a Patriots touch down cause I knew the Giants were in front.

I'm not doubting what you said, just cos Doran is an idiot and wont realise there was a delay instead of accusing people of coming up with conspiracy theories.

The guy showed how much idea he had by going on about how Siddle picked up the first wicket when McKay did.

I can guarantee you that the touchdown showed up on the NFL website and the scores changed to 13-10, 2-3 minutes before it was mentioned on SEN.

I know it very well, because the caller confused me a lot because I thought he was calling another touchdown, not the same one I already knew of.

Hey No Blanks,
Article in todays Herald Sun about football on radio and all of the stations plans for this season.
You might be right about the lack of influence or importance that Program Director Mark Johnson has at Sen.
3AW , MMM all had comments from their Program Directors and Sen had someone that I havent even heard mentioned here , but it wasnt Johnson.
Maybe the station has been reading this and sacked him

KB's knowledge of American sport is embarassing.

Still thinks Shaq is the best player in the NBA, doesn't understand how players are traded and also how player contracts work over there.

Normally he is pretty good but just a little bit of research please.
