No, there was no and never will be a need to talk about a player in that way when reporting on netball.

Why not? Because they are women and thus cannot handle discussion about their weight? Forget the political correctness Ben. As I told you before, the physical condition of footballers is very newsworthy and rightly so. Lance Whitnall and Dean Rioli both copped it and rightly so.

Both Morgan and Davu have been pretty ordinary this year and I would imagine being close to 100kg's would be the reason for it. I'm no expert though.

If netball wants to be taken seriously as a sport then it has to take on board both positive and negative comments.

Just toeing the party line and saying nice things gets the sport nowhere in my opinion.

Have to agree. One of those girls on Monday night may well have been close to 100kg. Maybe it's a weakness of the sport that some of those girls are capable of holding their position in the team.

I have established a good network of contacts and friends within netball, so I don't want to burn any bridges that exist there.

Then again, the fitness of players is an important issue and it's definitely something I would like to cover a bit more in detail.

sadly almost everyone in the media is friends with athletes theyre covering, or too matey if you will. as a result they aren't hard on the persons when needed.

I'm not buying the ads that the great Ronald Dale Barassi is doing for Melbourne FC's membership campaign.

Late last year he declared that another of his old clubs, North Melbourne, should put the good of the game ahead of themselves and relocate to the GC for that reason alone.

Funny how a lot of Melbourne FC people (mainly Gerard Healy) were for North relocating, but now its their club in crisis they are steadfast against relocation.

Gerald Healy is much more a Swans man then a demons supporter IMHO.

May be true, but he was very hot on North relocating last year.

Couldn't believe my ears the other night when he declared that Melbourne shouldn't merge or relocate.

I don't think they should either, but why is the argument for relocation much different in this case?

At least Fatprick Smith stuck by his guns and thinks everyone should relocate.

Every interview seems to somehow end up about AFL. Doran with Sports Minister a few days ago asking him about how he supports Hawthorn and how he's feeling about the team's performance.

Now interviewing Sam MacKinnon signing with Melbourne Tigers and it ended up asking him about Carlton's turn around in form coinciding with his return to Melbourne.

Bingo again.

Doran interviewing Ron Clarke about the Torch relay. Finishes off with asking him about footy.

Must be a directive from management. Ask every guest a question about footy.

Just like the Born In The USA guys are instructed each week to mention at the top of the show that you can listen to "FIVE AFL GAMES LIVE EACH AND EVERY WEEKEND" etc etc.

Yeah, we got 2 hours of US sport, but make sure the announcers and listeners alike don't forget that it's an AFL radio station  and that we should all we so grateful that any time is devoted to anything but AFL.

Well football is the main sport they cover remember.

I was being sarcastic.

I love footy as much as anyone, but I think when you spend say one minute of a three minute interview talking about AFL (like he did with Loudy Wiggins), then its showing a little disrecpect to that athlete and their sport.

Tim Watson must be a model SEN employee then. Doran might be a bit of a muppet but at least he makes an effort to cover sports other than footy.

The irony is, Tim actually has some knowledge of other sports, he just doesn't use it very much. Doran on the other hand...

I actually didn't think about the disrespect element, but you are exactly right.

Good point. :thumbsu:
