Does anyone want to explain how and why Channel 7 news and Sandy Roberts come on twice between 5 and 6pm advertising what is going to be on their news and to tune in at 6? This is in direct competition with 'The Run Home' as that is also on at 6pm. I understand advertisements, but not when it will mean that by watching the news you will be switching off SEN.

Yeah and what about those TV ads for radio stations? Unbelievable.

Maybe its a reciprocal rights deal. ch 7 get some air time to plug its news in order to recoup some viewers/ratings its friday night footy loses when ox opens his mouth

This is done on every station. On fiveaa at 5pm they advertise the news the headlines for 9 news at 6. Then at 5:30 someone from seven comes on and talks about the headlines for them at 6.
Yet fiveaa in the 4-7 slot rates a 20% plus share.
Every station does it.

Peter Mercado.Yes he's the guy you here giving sports updates on MMM during the footy on the weekends.

Must be unheard of to double up.
With SEN , 3AW TRIPLE M all competing against each other that is most strange that SEN would employ someone who is from TRIPLE M or that TRIPLE M would allow it to happen.
Surely must be plenty of out of work radio journalists who could be employed by SEN rather than stealing from across their competition.
Some how I dont think we would ever hear 3AW do the same thing.
Its like playing for more than one team at the same time.
You say he is on TRIPLE M when the football is on well that must be the same time when SEN ar doing football , so he is competing against one of his employers while he is at the other

Haha. Doran just commented on the youthfulness of the Australian side and the lack of experience of Mitchell Clarke?? Who's he?

My boys would be twenty plus years younger than Mark Doran and they could rattle off the Australian test team over breakfast.
They were talking on footy classifieds last night about journalists and the research and knowledge they do and have.
If Mark Doran keeps muddling up his names he is in need of some homework before he begins each day.
Doesnt sound good having SEN journalists not knowing their stuff and then being pointed out here and laughed at by posters.
Some of the posts here might be opinion based and disagreed with but noone can argue if they are getting basic names of AFL players and cricketers wrong .
You do not hear Bruce or Dennis or Richie making basic errors like that .

Bit like those traffiic reports on Channel ten news being watched by all of us who have just got home from work.
Unless you have the TV in your car whats the point !!!

I know Brett Phillips did exactly the same thing a few years ago, he would be doing World Sport Overnight for SEN on weeknights and then he would be the around the grounds man for MMM just like Peter Mercado is on weekends. I know that Brett Phillips is a freelance journalist so I assume that Peter Mecardo does this as well. Its also nothing new at SEN, as Bruce Eva also did freelance work for the National Indigenous Radio Service while presenting Beva After Dark on SEN.

It's not uncommon for people to work on 2 radio stations.Billy Brownless use to do the footy on K-Rock and breakfast on SEN.The same happens in TV - Shane Bourne on ch10 hosting Thank God Your Here/ch7 on City Homocide.

I thought it was Mercarto?

I don't know what his surname is.Mercardo,Mercato ...whatever

Most people are on the drive home, and will be able to catch what's on TV by the time the 6pm news rolls around. A good ploy I think.

It's not like Marcato/Mercato (not sure how to spell his name - he's not listed anywhere on the ultra professional SEN site) plays a pivotal role at either station, he's a part-time overnight host and a sports newsreader. Hardly a conflict of interest. I'm sure there are many freelancers who do his kind of work, BP did the same on MMM.

Did anyone else hear Andy Maher's sickening "Radar's Roast" this morning, which was just one big suck up to the AFL whilst kicking all other sports.

Said the AFL had the best administered sport in the world.

Used examples of:

NBL - How could they let the Bullets and Kings get the way they are?

NRL - Dwindling crowds (funny considering crowds are at record levels), a dodgy TV deal (what is dodgy about it? The Melbourne component of it is about the only thing I can think of) and clubs in decline

FIFA - They think they can control everyone by holding a gun to their heads (I assume he was referring to the Iraq situation) and despite everything they do they always come up smelling like roses.

In comparison, he said, the AFL, whilst they make the odd mistake have a fantastic administration that is superior to all other codes.

It smacked of just sucking the ____ of the AFL whilst doing all he can to dig the boots into every other sport, even if his examples are actually wrong.

They just cannot take their blinkers off.

Wish I was awake for that.

What kind of callers/sms' replies did he get?

Fact is, if Andrew and Adrian ran the NBL that league would be dead already. They would fine all the franchises for any wrongdoing, introduce committee after committee and rules such as hands in the back and other stupid things.

You can't compare AFL and the NBL as the interest in watching the two sports are completely different. Reason we still watch AFL is that we've been brought up with it, it's our main sport during the winter season with Cricket in the summer.

If they ran the NBL the exact same way or any other sport where we're not that passionate about and screw over the fans, the league/sport would die pretty quickly.

NRL is doing fine. QLD and Melbourne Storm crowds are good, NSW crowds are always quite low. It's just the NSW/Sydney culture.

FIFA... they're running a sport played globally. Not even comparable to the AFL who stuff it up with only one country. Their game seems pretty stable hey?

Howcome no bagging of the ICC? I would think thats a better argument.

Shame Doran didn't do any research on Sam Mitchell before he came on. He doesn't know if he polls in the Brownlow. He racked up 21 votes last year and in the JJ Liston won it when he only played 11 games and picked up 10 BOGs.
He's the star on SEN with how they send him to the World Cup, Olympics and all the big events so you expect alot more from him than any other presenter.

Any of us who were looking forward to him getting the chop months ago, think that he's pretty much locked away as SENs most important staff.

Can't compare the AFL to FIFA. FIFA is the biggest sporting governing body in the world. AFL administrators are lucky they are governing the most watchable sport in Australia. Crowds have nothing to do with administration. AFL/VFL has pulled massive crowds for the past 30 years.
I lived in Sydney was 10 years and the NRL haven't had a drop in crowds. ANZ stadium probably struggles but every other stadium is normally packed. NRL got on the front foot in regards to the Gold Coast situation with the Titans a top team this season. In that aspect you would say the AFL are behind.

Wish I was awake for that.

None that I heard.

Most people would just have blindly believed him, because most people think the AFL is king.

Like you say, you cannot compare the AFL to a lot of the other sporting codes.

The AFL struggle to organise 8 games of Football properly (problems with time keeping, problems with interchange, problems with scorers) and that is only 8 games of Football.

FIFA put on World Cups involving dozens of games and they go off without a hitch. The only major problem I can think of from the last World Cup was Graham Poll awarding 3 yellow cards, and that wasn't FIFAs fault, that was just shit refereeing.

If the AFL get their hands on the Olympic Stadium it would be the beginning of the end for the NRL, and I suspect Demetriou knows it. He hasn't earnt the nickname Vlad the Impaler for nothing. If the media were any good there'd be more made of this story. Even the Hun has to keep their mouth shut on it, despite their vested interest in NRL's survival.

If he does buy the stadium and puts NRL in chaos, would that not put the people of Western Sydney off AFL? I'm happy for all codes to co-exists but the AFL want to kill off the NRL and leave the people of Gold Coast and Western Sydney with no choice but AFL.

If a sport came to Melbourne/Victoria and killed off AFL so their sport could be number 1, I'd have a bitter feeling towards that sport.

I heard the Andy Maher tirade replayed on The Run Home. Absolute gibberish. I'm sure he wrote it in the ad break about 2 minutes before reading it out. Not a skerick of logic or thought went into the crap he spoke. His arguments aren't even worth rebutting.

Maher is right about the NBL admin being a rabble, NRL just doesn't seem to be 'growing or expanding it's market at all', and FIFA is a corrupt and hypocritical organisation that's led by a man, Sepp Blatter, that is beneath contempt.
He's not bagging the other codes, the just the administrators and he's spot on.

The AFL's administration is pathetic. Vlad and Adrian are living off reputations developed by a bidding war between Kerry Stokes and Kerry Packer on his last legs.

Exactly. If you take out the TV revenue they always fall back on, they have not done alot for the game itself.
FIFA does have question marks surounding it but UEFA and English FA have power over the EPL and CL, and they are growing at a phenomenal pace. I understand that it's a global game and it's alot harder for the AFL but for Maher to just come out and say the rest are crap. wtf??

Exactly. If that's the motive behind buying the stadium then I'm stumped as to why he thinks the masses will jump on board. There must be a magic formula in this plan that all the clubs have "agreed to".
