Doran likes the World Cup because he was sent there to "cover" it.

Just like Doran will love the Olympics but not neccessary the sports outside of swimming, athletics if they were held as a seperate tournament.

Spot on. He went overboard the other day during the Rubbo hour, describing the Natan Deeks injury as a "tragedy." Yeah, a tragedy for him as it leaves little for HIM to cover at the athletics events. He's probably worried about being re-assigned to Aussies doing well at, say, the clay target shooting. No great memories there for HIM.

Hope they didn't forget the first black QB to win a Super Bowl and open doors for many others.

That pretty much sums him up. I bet he even thought the Wimbledon final sucked cause Roger got done.

I've noticed that MG, KB and Finey talk golf with Marko and TRH talk with Brett Ogle, but Doran doesn't talk Golf.

Matt Keenan talks to MG and Phil Wrockna talks to KB and TRH about cycling, but Doran doesn't talk cycling.

Doran doesn't talk any motor sport either. Or American sports.

The list could go on...

During the Rubbo (show) hour, Doran mentioned how he sits down to watch sports and always falls asleep. Exposing how he's really not that enthralled in much of any sport.

He's often decried cricket's ODI format and is a hater of Twenty/20. Mr. Tradition loves Test cricket and the Sheffield Shield formats but never professes to having any ideas as how to payroll world cricket without the profitable shorter formats.

This emphasizes the lack of cutting-edge thought put into any of his work.

I'm always ready to come on, got things to talk about and then when that music comes on you start dancing, and...you look like a drunken crab.
- Doctor Turf to KB after the Doctor's intro music, 22/7/08

Yes he did.

He said that he didn't like my reports by suggesting that they make people go to sleep.

Seriously, Sunshine Ben one of the Netball Men. Most of the SEN demographic don't give a rat's clacker about this over-hyped average sport. It’s time to wake up and get over it because many of us will be catching Z’s while you are waffling on.

Media people like Sheahan, Smith, Leach, Lane, Doran, Denham, Quartermain et al, consider their jobs as jobs for life and they're never going to do anything else. No one's going to cut you any slack a you attempt to establish a career in the media. You'll be used before you gain.

Once you're out of the contemptible education system and in the real world you'll find this out. Although you can always change your name to Ben Lane or Ben Sheahan. That'll help.;)

Monty, are you saying that I should grow a thick skin?

I don't suggest worrying too about metaphors like growing a thick skin. Just because I don't respect netball as a pro sport doesn't mean you're wrong, just don't be too reactionary to what people write or say. Learn from it.

Look at the crap Hutchy takes on Big Footy and The Footy Show. And he just keeps on moving forward.

You've chosen a sport that is only a niche market sport. Simply repeated: very few SENers are interested in Netball.

you are right. there was once a netball show on SEN i think on sunday nights. didnt survive for long.

Dylan Howard was pretty good the other night albeit a little sloppy at times. Can't blame Hutchy too much for instigating HIS changes. He's the one writing cheques.

Howard updated the cricket score as: "updating a few other issues across the world - in the cricket, South Africa 5 for 384 after 134 overs; they lead England by 181 runs..."

This was 30 minutes after S.A. went to tea at 7 for 480 after 166 overs, leading England by 277.

Not sure that taking holidays and buying tickets to go to a couple of games is covering it. Creating the perception with the listeners that he was sent there to "cover" it to add to his stunning CV of being the man to cover all the big events was the aim

If I remember correctly I think the netball show replaced the Insiders (still my favourite show SEN ever had) on Sunday mornings. But I'm sure it was on a Sunday morning.

Andy Maher, Jake Niall and Dave Culbert. Bruce Macavaney hosted the show for a brief period also. 9am to 12noon Sundays.

It was the best show SEN has ever had on.

what do you mean he writes the cheques that is not true the manager or chief executive of sen was in the papaer the other day saying it was not true about hutchy taking over the all nights port. why would the sen manager lie when he is is the boss of sen. if you read www.allnightsport.com it has nothing at all about hutchy it is only bp who is really the one in charge.

Talking Netball was on Sunday mornings and it was pulled because the Commonwealth Bank withdrew funding that helped to get the show to air each weel.

And they withdrew the funding because nobody listened.

Comm Bank aren't a charity organisation. If they do something, there usually must be something in it for them.

Thats the reality of business.

i was gonna ask why they took their money away, seems like the answer is pretty self explanatory.

Seems the people who run allnightsport.com are just as slack as the SEN website maintainers. Ross Payne is still mentioned on the front page

How did you manage to post at 00:13? The site was still down for me.

Anyway, ANS is completely an All Night Hutchy Lovefest. Even Mark Franklin was praising him. Spose its a good, yet expensive, way to get good publicity. Damn propaganda. Too many people on TV, radio these days are afraid to say what they really think and say what their sponsors/owners will want to hear.

exactly. it is also very rare that persons working for the same station bag co-workers.

in addition, i feel that some commentators find it difficult to criticise players because they've played with/against them, or are friends with them.

last night ox did criticise nick maxwell but prefaced it with "he's a great bloke..."

Banks might not be a charity, but I reckon it's a posititve message for them to be seen supporting a spotrt that prior to this year struggled to mainstream recognition.

I think that ANZ would be doing a good thing if they got behind a similar show on radio or an online podcast for next season of the ANZ Championship.

I would definitely love to be involved in the show in some capacity if it ever was to eventuate.

Did I hear correctly?

Doran backing Channel Seven in not showing the footy live tonight and showing how to make chicken soup instead?

I think I heard the line "Delayed is exactly the same as live. Not different at all."

What Channel did his mug used to appear on?

Pretty funny. He'll be at the Olympics; Seven will be at the Olympics; two and two equals? Human nature.

I do believe he also just said he falls asleep at half-time during Friday night games. Again with the sleeping!

I wish I was listening to his show during the 2005 Ashes Series. If he fell asleep during that then he definitely is no passionate sports lover. If he falls asleep during an AFL game, a game we Southerners worship, then what sport will keep him glued?

I can understand both sides of the argument with Ch7 not showing the game live. Not everyone would be happy to have a sudden/late change with the TV guide as non-footy fans/Better Homes fans wouldn't be pleased.

Ch10 have more flexibility as their lead in programs are football shows.

for the sport yes it would be good, but i get the impression with the afl on SEN there's basically bugger all time for netball.

Being positive is one thing, Ben, but the business of sports sponsorship is another. If you ever hear basketballers like Michelle Timms (retired), Lauren Jackson, or Penny Taylor being interviewed on SEN; they'll wax poetic on how wonderful the WNBA in the US is for women's sport, but never mention that it loses about $20 million a year and is propped up by NBA money.

The sponsors know it's really a loser.
