there was a notice on the sen website saying there will be no internet streaming for the duration of the games due to another group having internet streaming rights

Speaking of Olympics, there was a note in the paper the other day saying that stations who don't have the rights, aren't even allowed to use the word "Olympics" on the air. They have to refer to it as "Beijing". Even includes the talkback callers.

Thank god SEN have the rights.

im sure ive heard 3aw say olympics

The whole Olympics...woops sorry, Beijing (BigFooty don't have the rights do they?) coverage rights is over the top. The tv networks that don't hold the rights can only show 3 minutes worth of footage for 3 times a day. Maybe it's changed since, but I remember it being that.

Football should be given a decent airing considering it is the 150th anniversary round this weekend I did not hear it mentioned once in 30 minutes between ads and rugby and Billies son.

Yeah its such a monumental round, the only people that care about 150 years are the ones down at the docklands HQ.

For anyone concerned about SEN's program schedule during the games...

Monday-Thursday:
- MG and HFS as per normal, though HFS will finish at 11:50am in the first week
- 11:50am-2pm: Block coverage, mainly swimming finals
- 2-6pm - The Run Home as usual, with coverage of events where necessary
6pm-late - Block coverage

Friday:
- MG and HFS as per normal
- 12pm-2pm - Block coverage
- 2pm-4pm - Harf
- 4pm-6pm - Footy Countdown
- 6pm-10:30pm - AFL
- 10:30pm-late - Block coverage

Saturday and Sunday - AFL coverage, with Olympic coverage where necessary - AFL matches not to be interrupted.

You are right of course and that is not what I am saying. When people rang in to question Tim and Andy's (expressed) opinion that the rugby guy had no principles they moved them along post haste. They have all week to talk about the 150th celebrations, and 30 minutes without it gets you annoyed? Come on.

I listened to 3AW Football for the first time in ages this weekend.
When the SEN Footy was over and they went to the Olympics I tuned it over to 3AW.
I still think Finey and final siren talkback about the footy would be more popular for SEN than flooding us with Olympics day and night after the footy.
I can understand why the Olympics are important but like i said I have the radio always tuned to SEN but this weekend and I think the next few weeks I will be changing it to 3AW alot more.
Is this what SEN had in mind or am i alone in doing this .
Feedback please .
Will SEN get better ratings because of the Olympics or will they be worse because people get bored after a while.
The thing is that 3AW kept giving anything happening from Olympics while they were doing the after footy show anyway

I think the fact that this thread has died since the Olympic coverage started proves that it will be a flop.

Gotta admit, I listened to ABC radio on the weekend. Better coverage and no ads. Even had it on when watching the action on Seven, cause the radio always cross back and fourth from the different sports, whereas the TV coverage don't do that very well.

Well last time SEN had the olympics they rated worse than when they didn't have the olympics. Plus that's when they didn't even have the AFL.
However I also believe back then both SEN, 3AW and ABC all had the olympics so therefore it could improve their ratings.
Not all people want to listen to AFL 24/7 and may be happy to switch over to SEN once the game is over to hear what is happening.
It will be interesting to see.

I think the idea is to attract new customers to SEN. If they can get some new listeners during the Olympics they might stay with the station afterwards.

The danger in that is that the regulars may switch over and might not come back.

To be fair, SEN coverage has only properly started today. We get full swimming coverage, plus after 6pm we get 8 hours straight, so it should be good as the coverage starts to gear up.

Let's give them a few days this weeek before we critique how they are going.

And the online radio coverage is not only a problem for SEN, no radio station in the world is allowed to stream their olynmpic coverage over the net during the olympics, absolutely ridiculous by the IOC. Do they not realise the power of the internet? Or are they still living 15 years ago.

I cant believe how many ads were in the coverage last night of the Basketball, literally every 3 or 4 minutes.

The Boomers game was delayed, I listened to Walshy calling the game on ABC and how showed much more emotion to compared to the Channel 7 commentators.

I agree, the ABC coverage is great. :thumbsu:

If you can watch Carl v Coll on two channels and one had ads all the time and the other is ad free ......which you going to choose ?
If you want to listen to the Olympics for a long while on the radio then it is the ABC.
I still say more turn off SEN after the footy is over as they dont want to listen to hrs and hrs of diving , swimming etc hockey
But SEN will have callers for hrs who want to talk about the nights football.
Fineys Final Siren will have rated better then the Games I say.

Opening ceremony would have been a huge ratings bonanza
gotta love those fireworks and acrobatics on radio:)
