Anyone able to give me a rundown on what Tim Watson said in "Wato's Waste" this morning?

I heard he was going to have a crack at the FFA for the timing of the A-League season but didn't get to hear it.

It was about them opening the season during the Olympics and pre-finals for AFL and NRL.

He used the argument that the AFL rescheduled their season in 2000 for the Sydney Olympics.

Difference which he failed to mention was that in 2000 both events would have been in the same country/city and stadiums would of been used up.

I don't get to listen to MG much beyond 7:30am, is "Wato's Waste" serious or a pisstake, because he cannot surely be serious with that argument put forward?

1) As you mentioned, the Olympics in 2000 were in Sydney and the same city and country where some games would be staged.
2) Why move games for an Olympics in another country?
3) The A-League has always kicked off at this time of the year just before AFL/NRL finals, why should they move now?

Ben Buckley in The Australian today explained why they had to start now in the middle of the Olympics.

Just another clueless rant about something that isn't AFL. I'm surprised he didn't have a crack at the Beijing Olympics for daring to be staged right in the middle of AFL season.

Doran commentating the Basketball is the most cringe-worthy piece of radio.

First he said Australia vs Lithuania and carried on with it for a while.

Secondly went on how Australia are after that elusive Gold Medal. Howabout elusive medal? The gold is practically sewn up by the US.

Thirdly, he was whinging to the ref about how this is the olympics. There should be some physical contact. Um, basketball is meant to be a non contact sport.

SEN must be embarassed now with listeners from other states hearing the amount of blunders he makes.

You obviously don't play Basketball, because if you did you would know A) its not a non-contact sport and B) the more important the match, the less ticky tacky fouls players want to be called, so what Doran said was exactly right.

its funny that, as in school days you are taught that the game is in fact "non contact" but in reality we know the truth.

I know there's incidental contact which doesn't get called. I was brought up during school days that it was a non-contact sport.

Netball's a non-contact sport yet you'd get contact.

Doran out did himself last night with his commentary of the softball. Would have been funny if it wasn't so sad!

There's a smug old guy who's called in to Doran's show a few times over the last few years calling himself the weatherman or something similar, giving Doran long range weather forecasts in a really smug tone like he's never wrong.

Emphatically said a few months ago that there'll be no snow this year. Just checked the snow report and Falls, Hotham and Buller have 51 out of 51 lifts operating, and a depth of 150cm+.

I think that while the SEN coverage has been decent, it's nothing compared to the ABC in my opinion.

Please tell me if I am wrong, but is it basic journalistic duty if you are reporting on a breaking story about a serious accident where there are serious injuries, to get definite confirmation first before you give names of who is involved?

Our friend Mr Thompson came on regarding the bus accident and actually named 2 Aussie rowers who who supposedly on the bus, then comes back 10 minutes later to say they actually werent on the bus! Too bad if any of their families were listening in the first place!!!
