I actually have to give props to SEN for this morning's Ricky Ponting interview by Mick Malthouse :thumbsu:

I don't know if SEN have done this many times, but I reckon it's a great idea. Get two people from different sporting fields (currently still involved in sport) to interview each other, would give the public some insight from a different perspective than when the media do interviews.

They actually did that when the station first came into existance on a Monday Night...didn't last very long though.

There is a great American TV series called Icons where an American Icon like Jeff Koons is interviewed by another famous person. Michael Stipe interviewed a famous American war photographer. It is really great to see the interaction between the two.

You get mutual respect and understanding the comes from performing at the highest level in an elite sport

Thumbs down to KB.

Said at the start of the show at 9am that the Test team has just been announced on the Cricket Australia website, and Phil Hughes is in the team.

I'm hoping that last bit will still be correct, but its nearly 11am, and the team hasn't been announced.

Anyone hear the new guy on overnights?Nobody seems to want the overnight gig

Is this the new overnight host you're talking about ?

Christian Argenti - formally afternoon announcer on Heart 107.3 Hobart is now the new 'All Night Appetite' sports presenter for Melbourne's 1116 SEN.

Is that Christian Argenti and this Christian Argenti, former lead singer of Invertigo, one in the same ?

I reckon it is, Jubs. I was listening Wednesday morning at around 5.45, when they are doing the newspaper headlines and Alana (don't remember the last name) made a reference to some headline or something within the article as a "possible new hit song for you", or something along those lines.

doran is a knob!
everytime there is a caller with different views to his, he always just cuts them off and voices his side of the arguement. i thought it was called talkback for a reason?

I listen to 3AW at 6pm for one hr then come back to Finey and I cannot tell you over years of listening to Healy and Russell of ever hearing any ridiculous mistakes.
Its a small world as I was at a xmas party where a lady friends partner was there and he was someone who works at one of the other stations that broadcast AFL and he laughed when I told him I posted here about SEN and all of the mistakes.
he pretty much said that SEN had some of the worst production and technical support people in the radio business , many that wouldnt get a job at his or other stations.
Now thats just his opinion but I cant argue with him when I hear an ad the other day on SEN for the Swan Hotels brownlow medal night function coming up in a few weeks and to book now :D

I know this quote is going back a bit, but it's been a while since I checked up on this thread. I think "worst production and technical support people in the radio business" is a bit harsh.

I worked for SEN - panel operating, audio production/editing and on-site technical producing - for the first 3 1/2 years of its existence, and during that time I worked with people who I remember as very competent and capable people. I don't know how many of those people are still there, but I'm reasonably sure at least some of them still are. Sure, we had some part time/students filling positions, and not all of them were highly competent or committed to doing the best job possible, but the core people were always passionate about their work and about doing the best job possible.

There's one thing that sometimes prevented this. The sheer workload at times meant things had to be done and had to be done quickly, not always leaving the room for the perfection many of us desired - working long hours and working to extremely tight deadlines (ie can you get this edited before we air it 5 minutes from now) is not easy.

I remember the failed Adelaide networking experiment...where many of us were asked to make an untenable situation tenable - by a management that didn't realise the enormity of what it was asking at very short notice. I remember scrambling to have audio ready at a moment's notice for a certain daytime host that I choose not to name - a host who had absolutely no idea of how close to impossible his 'requests' were. And yet we worked to make this happen. Again and again and again. Dragging equipment all over the country to make AFL broadcasts possible - we weren't always working in existing studios at those grounds, most of the time we were given an empty room and had to set the studio up on the day of the broadcast.

Many of these were people that worked with me through SEN's first management collapse in mid 2005...many of them also worked with me through the collapse of 3AK in late 2003 - the catalyst for SEN's appearance on the airwaves. People who were dedicated and loyal to managements that weren't always loyal to them.

Maybe we weren't the best...but I sincerely doubt we were ever close to being the worst. Just overworked, underpaid and asked to do more than was reasonable on many occasions.

I now work for a very reputable radio station in the USA, a job I landed in part due to the work I'd done at SEN previously. My current employers have no doubts or worries about the standard of work I produce here, and I'm sure many of the people I remember would have similar success working at other stations.

Having said that, my time at SEN was very enjoyable, it's an experience I remember fondly and I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. Many of the criticisms levelled in this thread are accurate and I won't try to defend some of the things that have been said or done over the years...but SEN also has/has had some great people working there in its time on the Melbourne airwaves.

Anyway...that's my overly sensitive and long reaction to the above quote...it's out of my sytem now. Carry on.

In regards to the tragic bushfires sen did as good as could be expected of a full time sport station, better then some of the tv stations that stuck with stories of a cloned puppy rather then the fires.

They chose to call a NAB Cup game over an A-League Final and will also call a NAB Cup game over the A-League Grand Final.

Rookie mistakes.

Everyone loves the footy, but honestly the NAB cup is a yawn feast where none of the clubs really give a fig:thumbsdown:.......... Now for the traditional AFL v Soccer crap

Well if you believe KB they're contractually obligated to cover the NAB games.

Twice in the last few months I have heard Doran, talking about "world football", say that away goals are "worth double".

I don't think away goals have been worth double for 10+ years.

Get a clue Snoran.

Where are competition that has home and away finals, away goals are worth double if scores are tired and the end of normal time.

... so if scores are tied, then away goals act as the tie-breaker... you don't count them as double.

Anyway, Doran was implying that Victory basically had a 4 goal lead coming in to this week's game, so he had no clue.
