Apparently Billy has been leaving Geelong by 4am every working morning for 4 years, to get to SEN by 5am. Apparently, he was always on time too. The Thursday nights he'd do The Wheel for The Footy Show he'd get about one hour sleep.

At least Billy brought some personality to the table and had some connection with the listeners, in comparison to Afternoon Guy.

Be interesting to see who they get to replace him.

There was an interview a couple of months ago,possibly in the Geelong Addy magazine that comes out once a month,where he said sometimes he'll stay at Garry Lyon's if he has stuff on in Melbourne at night [i.e Footy Show].

The problem with those crappy FM breakkie shows is that they have 3 or 4 voices talking over each other.The Run Home works well because there's only 2 voices.

Lots of people get up at 4am to do their jobs. I'm up at 4.30am almost every day. And I don't work 3 hours a day....
Can I get some sympathy too ?

Bill lucked into the gig and then proceeded to make a mockery of it. He was doing a job that thousands of others would like to do and could do better than him. He has been blessed in his media career so far but times are changing and listeners/viewers are far more sophisticated now and won't stomach the same one gag for 4 years.

I fail to see how constantly talking about frothies, s******ing whenever a female athlete was interviewed or bringing everything back to the GFC is bringing 'personality' to the table but each to their own.

In truth, an inanimate carbon rod would probably do the the same job as Bill but hopefully SEN management show a bit of foresight and get Turfy into the chair.

Of course there is nothing wrong with talking about those subjects. I do it myself. It becomes an issue when it is the only thing you can actually talk about in a job that requires communication.

I remember a few years ago they interviewed Al Westover from the Melbourne Tigers, Maher was doing his best to scramble together some basically related NBL questions, then Billy reading over the rosters says "gee Al, Stiff, Cox and Hoare, quite a line-up you have there"

It was his only contribution to the 10 minute interview apart from talking about how great Andrew Gaze was. Don't get me wrong it wasnt as if it wasnt funny at the time, but just proved how little he cared about in terms of research of sports he's not interested in.

was thinking about this this morning. it's fair enough that he's being himself. however given he's on a sports station he needs to be able to contribute accordingly - talk about sports other than afl. look at andy maher, at least he does a decent job as a host and comes across as being interested when interviewing sports guests.

some might say that it's a morning show and it's supposed to be light hearted. this was exactly the rebuttal used when the guys on the run home would bag mg. again fair enough it that's what they are supposed to be, but i don't buy it. also, would billys antics (smutty inuendo) come under any scrutiny from the public? i'm not a prude (far from it in fact) but consider that there are regulations on radio/media decency. in saying that, im sure most FM stations would also come under the microscope with what seems like increased swearing and the like.

look, billy has his many faults on the show which have been discussed ad nauseum on this thread. he is an entertainer, something he is very good at. if he were to stay on at sen he'd be better suited to sat arvo footy or dare i say evening shows?

At the other end of the scale in experience is the Saturday night host James Willoughby , he is not up to it.
If I could have a dollar for every time he told a reporter or guest it was some of their sharpest work.
He is truly out of his depth and it sounds like High School Musical 2 radio .
Is he 12 or is he 15 , he giggles every minute and at one stage he sounded like he got an erection when he was talking to one reporter about whether that reporter had a new girlfriend .
I understand he is the one replacing Phillips , well all I can say is I am glad I am asleep weeknights.
Listening to Phillips this evening the difference between him and the 14 year old is that one sounds and presents first class the other sounds like he is just making up the numbers.
I can understand the need for these kids to be blooded but not at the expense of the overall presentation.
By the way James please tell your sidekick who told us during your attempts at a sport update that there are no English Soccer updates after you go to replays , thats why we tune to 1026am.

I'm sorry but Bill has a Job to do and that means he must get up at 4.00am ....so friggin what. The fruiterers going to the Wholesale Market have to get up earlier than that and often have to work till 6.00pm everynight. What I am getting at is we all do what we do to get on in this life ..... Bill is NO HERO because he has 4.00am starts. Does anyone seriously think Bill doesn't stay in Melbourne minutes from SEN on a Thursday Night, if you do I have some bottled air to sell to you........

If a few people in this world get up at 4am each morning, why must it be something the rest of the community have to embrace happily?

He was happy doing that for 4-5 years and now, by all reports he's not. Big deal, let's move on. More interested in who's going to be on MG next year.

Notice when he works solo, he always answers callers when they ask him "How are you?" Usually Francis doesn't answer, and you always hear Ox say "good thanks".

I really can't handle listening to Fatprick Smith anymore. Going to have to boycott 9-10 on Mon, Tues and Thurs.

His one-man stands against the whipping of horses and against lots of people going to the races just stinks of attention seeking. And his points about the Gambhir cricket issue this morning are just ridiculous.

I think Pat has the MO of "hard hitting journalist" (which I've even heard him say), combined with the fact he writes for the lowest selling daily paper in town, he just finds things to have strong opinions about just to get attention.
