I know alot of people dislike Mark Allen but I think he always adds something to the show. When he's on the Run Home, with Finey or doing he's golf wrap with KB it's good radio IMO. Even this morning with Tim I thought it was better than usual.

Two of my favorite segments on the station are Mark Allen with KB on a Monday and again on a Friday. Their rapport is just sensational. Very intelligent and very funny. Dr Turf with KB on Tuesdays right up there also.

Casual Friday a great segment maybe 2-3 years ago, but now its just self gratifying, all too aware of their popularity, rubbish. Can think of better things to do than listen to Doran perk up and call Rita a "social commentator" over and over again for two hours.

I've never been a big fan of Mark Allan, perhaps because he spends a lot of time talking about a sport I have zero interest in.

One segment which really bugs me is the one on Saturday mornings with Hutchie and Pickers. Some weeks it seems like they have special guests simply so they can use them to join in their awful repartee with each other.

It always struck me when they had the excellent Crunch Time straight after them, that they would do well to listen to how interviews and discussion should actually be conducted.

Yeah I often surf to 3AW so the Casual Fridays are getting bad.

Moving back home to Sydney tomorrow so it will mean listening to SEN over the internet from now on. I'll miss putting on SEN while I'm getting up in the morning or going to sleep because it has become part of my routine and it's a damn good station.
Probably only listen to bits and pieces (not Snoran) but I'll appreciate it much more than the Rugby League focused stations in Sydney. The only thing that's interesting about Sydney stations is that most of the regular talkback callers are in the Billy from Heidelberg mould. Can be quite amusing at times.

at least you'll have steve price to antagonise during callback. unfortunately that means having ray hadley as well, bummer:thumbsdown:

Ok, just listened to the Crappest hour of radio i have heard on SEN in a long time. Just as worse as the nick slade/luke o brien affair last year. there was two guys on hosting cutting in over the top of the other and generally sounded like they had been plucked from the local community station. And guess what they were doing? Not doing calls or any talk, replaying ****ing intervirws with absolute nobodies.

'Best of Steve Salisbury'. pfft. if Steve misses work, sruely SEN can find a fill in? also i was driving round late ona friday night and the poker thing was a farce. simply, a shit show. again an Amateur host and the lines keep being distorted and SEN do nothing about it.

i hope going into summer, SEN don't persist with crap ideas (replays of interviews of people with no substance) and crap hosts

All semi-decent ex-Hawthorn players from the same generation. Mates?

Just read Crawf's book circa 2003. They are BBFLs - Crawf, Tallis, Thompson, McCabe, Dixon, Harf, Graham.

Think you could be onto something. Hell, even Tim Hazell who was with the club during the time those others were around has been getting gigs on the station.

Although I wouldn't rate him as highly as semi-decent :D

Gotta say, Tim Hazell is an awesome bloke. Got great respect for him, and his knowledge of the game would be pretty good, having played for the Hawks and Crows, as well as in the VFL in both Victoria and Tasmania.

The past few nights after midnight, there has been full coverage of a Poker tournament in Sydney. It is incredibly frustrating radio. It bores me no end, I want to listen to sport, not bloody Poker. I enjoy playing a bit, but listening to discussion on it for a few nights in a row now has peed me off. Please no more. One night a week I can handle, but not this.

i havent listened to morning glory in A while, but back on Nightshift now - how many ****ing ads!!! News, traffic, sport updating, there is so little of Andy and Tim!

Also have hated the Poker coverage Pepsi, they have done a shit job IMO.

expect more of that in the summer im guessing.

yesterday in something different - the AFL hour - they had emma quale on. not a bad idea getting a few lasses on. last week there was some netball bird on as well. i dont recall hearing a female voice during the footy season!

Just read Crawf's book circa 2003. They are BBFLs - Crawf, Tallis, Thompson, McCabe, Dixon, Harf, Graham.

what does bbfl mean? should we expect mccabe to be on sen soon?

so he's a good bloke, no probs there. just wondering how he got a gig on sen.

SEN is similar to a sporting team that lacks any real depth.

They struggle for conent and presenters over the summer. They also tend to flog a dead horse when it comes to AFL. I love the footy but I immediately switch the dial when Matty Thompson is on the weekend discussing midfield depth at St.Kilda or some other boring chatter just to fill in time.

The solution to their summer problem is difficult as they don't have the money to pay for better presenters and outside broadcasts of live sport apart from the A-League. SEN could create a niche in covering live Bushrangers cricket, NBL etc... but the funds and possibly the demand isn't there. They need a change as some of the "community radio" crap that they put on at the moment is amateur at best.

As for the Poker and overnight shows etc SEN have sold those slots to Hutchy's media company Crocmedia. Basically the station sells the time to Crocmedia and it's up to Hutchy's crew to sell the ad space and generate revenue. Croc would control the content, presenters and what the expenses are.

Whilst "Off the Bench" and "Off the fence" are quite entertaining on a Saturday morning the night content and the poker are very ordinary. It comes across as a group of Hutchy devotees on work experience being paid very little if anything to get their foot in the door. I am sure their pay would be a very small percentage of advertising revenue that is generated. If you want to see an example of Crocmedia's work, check out www.footyheads.com.au (Not an overly impressive website)...

For the permanent hosts they need a refresh as well..

The mornings need a lift.. Dr Turf is entertaining and isn't afraid to have a crack for fear of losing friendships. Andy seems to know his sport but can be a little boring and Tim is quite useless outside of Footy and a bit of cricket. It's amazing that someone can work in a sports newsroom for years and not pick up a greater knowledge.

As for the others KB is OK, there is some talk of Eddie moving into the morning slot. Which would be an improvment and possibly could shift KB to afternoons and finally get rid of Doran who is terrible.

Whilst I can't stand OX on TV he and Francis in the afternoons keep things moving along and cover a bredth of sports when needed. Finey does a decent job at nights but can be difficult to listen to when he editorialises...

Anyway, that's my take from listening to the station from time to time. I still think a sports station in Melbourne can work but needs more money to become more professional.

I'd switch off mornings if Eddie took over KB's slot. The major criticism of presenters on here is sporting knowledge. When a caller rings up about Golf, Athletics, Boxing, Motor Sport, Horse Racing, no one else is more equipped than KB.

Haha, how's Doran just then, commenting about callers he heard on another talkback station on his drive in... maybe if he listened to KB's show, he'd learn something.

Agree with everything you say.

I would certainly NOT listen to Eddie. As for KB, I've been listening to him since he's days on 3UZ, and although he can be very stubborn at times, he's overall knowledge of sport, has only ever been beaten by Beva at SEN.

I nearly choked on my sandwhich when I heard Doran say "when I was listening to another station earlier". That's nearly as bad as his usual comment "it was too late for me to watch it".

Couldn't agree more with Hoggy. The weekends are just literally a dogs breakfast. One night it's Willouby, then Franklin. Sen have to have a serious look at presenters like Work experience Willouby[spelling not sure]. His poll last night on whether Ernie Merrick should be sacked was pathetic amauterish radio. Sounded like an agendato me:thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

You think that was bad , Did you listen at 10pm last Friday night?
Craig Harper was filling in for Finey and at about 2 mins to 10pm he started thanking everyone who had been on the evening show and saying goodbye and then it was the news at 10pm.
After the news harper comes on again and says oops , sorry I actually am on until 11pm.
This guy is meant to be some sort of a life and planning coach and he was on for three hrs and still didnt know at 2 mins to ten that he ws still on till 11pm.
Shows - He has no idea of the time that Finey does his show till ( must not listen )
- Shows the people helping produce the show hadnt any idea ( where was the planning or running sheet or anyone working out what was going to be happening at 10pm onwards.
It was both funny and cringeworthy embarrasing at how poorly organised it sounded.
Does anyone go to work and not know what time they are going to finish at radio stations or jobs like that.

Work experience kids must be pressing the buttons this week.

They just played an ad for the World Cup cycling event at Hisense Arena that was on nearly 2 weeks ago.

On Monday they played an ad for Paperworld saying how good a gift they are for Father's Day.

See above post about how poor some of the hired help ( producers and studio operators )are in putting some of the Sen programs together
I am glad some of them are not flying planes as not sure how many would actually land instead of just falling from the sky

agree with most comments except for KB who i think has exceptional allround sports knowledge and FINEY whos is a genuine man of the people and is pure entertainment. lol at DORAN listening to other stations on his drive in, i think i'll tell my boss that i do my shopping at the opposition, but then again Doran is probably that dumb.
craig harper is usually a very good listen, i heard him that night say that he was on until 11pm so it was a surprise that he started signing off at 10pm, pretty poor form.
just about over schibeci and all his motorsport coverage and the regular crosses to hutchy in the states, shit even on the drive into the airport at 4am this morning andrew lowther crossed to hutchy talking about nfl.
give it a break.

I have to disagree. I didn't hear his poll/agenda or whatever but I think Willouby is a very good on air guy. I post on a football forum he frequents and he seems to speak his mind which I think is a good thing he also is a p4etty good interviewer.

I try to listen to his soccer show each Sunday also who else here is missing BP i wish he would do some more shifts I think he would be good doing the good oil what do others think?

Also I agree with above posts I am sick of Poker show it is so boring and so crap. Download me if that is true what you say that is a shocker.

ill never understand a radio show about poker. its ok to talk about tournaments that may have been won, or those upcoming but you really need to see the cards, players to get a feel of the game. it's almost like radio commentary of snooker, you have to be there!

as for the talk about amateur hour, sen would probably legitimse such hosts as "giving them experience". that's fine, but shouldn't they be getting experience in community radio (if they havent already done so).

hoggy34, spot on about floggin a dead horse in afl. this morning on MG they were interviewing brad johnson. everyone loves johno but seriously its not afl season and there's not much you can talk about afl wise is there? got a bad feeling however MG will drag in one person from each club to talk about their draftees. i get the impression producers/hosts at this time of the year are like zombies, walking around without afl makes them go numb.

Agreed. Problem is, SEN must think that people still want to listen about AFL. Personally, if I don't hear anything for the next couple of months on AFL I would be fine with that. However, there are probably a lot of people who do want to hear what they have been doing at training, how good they are going, the best shape they have ever been in, etc. Don't ask me how that is interesting to listen to, but it seems to be to a lot of people.

There is plenty to talk about including Cricket, golf, upcoming tennis, Premier League, NFL, NBA. However, most of the presenters don't no that much about those sports and wont spend a whole lot of time on them.
