when i listen to MG is shake like a man suffering withdrawl symptoms. seriously, its bad! everytime maher of watson speak Im expecting them to waffle on about afl or at least link a sports story to afl.

Well what the hell do you expect? Its MELBOURNE and its AFL mad!! And that suits someone like me just fine!

Ill throw up if I hear the argument about being a "sports" station and it should be giving this sport and that sport and a dash of euro handball thrown in every 10 minutes. Baloney! It does its best to cater for other sports, but without AFL and AFL talk, SEN os dead in the water.

Fact is, the vast majority of the listeners, and im one of em, dont give a rats arse about most other sports. Fair enough there are those that DO, but they are a minority. You dont cater to minorities in radio (in this case), or else its all over baby.

MG is ok for what it is. Sure it has its faults, but you cant argue that the talk comes back to AFL too often! Thats ridiculous. Im sure the majority of listeners like me couldnt give fcuk about the latest basketball scores or whats happening in some ******* sport like cycling or whatever.

Anyway, the updates are there , they do what they can, or want to do in that regards.

If you expect a in depth 20 minute convo about the NBA then you will die waiting! And anyway, what for? Cant be catering for minorities, fact of business wether you like it or not.

I didn't listen to SEN yesterday, but it doesn't surprise me that Doran stuffed up again. What does surprise me is that he still has air time.

Doran has blocked my phone number so that messages I send to the station are blocked and cannot be seen. I'm surprised he was smart enough to figure out how to do that. I thought it was strange that none of the SMS's were being read out for two months, but I found out the other day when I called one of the producers and asked him if he had received a message from me in regards to the Western Bulldogs rumoured to have signed a massive sponsorship deal (this was on Friday before it came public). Producer told me that there was no record of any messages like that, and no messages from my number for over six weeks. I've probably sent in 25-50 during those six weeks as well.

I'm convinced it's Doran because I sent him an abusive SMS when Cousins was drafted by Richmond because he stuffed up by saying there were two players with prebious AFL experience who were picked up in the pre-season draft. He clearly hadn't heard of Skipworth having played for the Crows. Since that day none of my messages have been read out, and now I know why.

At least I know after many abusive messages I have sent that he couldn't handle the internal pain anymore.

I've been very negative to Mark in Text messages but still I can send sms's and they are read out I even talk to them on air at times.

I'd have to say your text messages must have been horrid for Doran to have been able to ban your number. I highly doubt he could put a block without Management support.

Well said. SEN suits me fine even though I find every sport boring except footy and cricket. Very therapeutic driving around yelling at KB for his excessive golf segments or Francis for his interminable soccer raves.

yes, and i love my footy. did you hear mg interview brad johnson just before their break for xmas? they were asking him about his holiday.

look, i have nothing against footy talk but for example they gave a FT score of the everton-liverpool game and australias tim cahill scored the equaliser. dont expect discussion about it, they did well to report it but what was their next topic of discussion? which afl player resembles cahill?

sen is a great station. love the fact they have a soccer show (although once a week is enough, not 4-5 times a week. that is bs) and get behind the victory. similarly the storm during footy season.

i think the constant referral to afl during programs is really only on mg. it's mainly watson. kb's good (except for defending every rule he's brought in), doran is just bad and other programs are good too. i think its not so much the afl topics that's grating, its when other sports are given some time and the host brings it back to afl. that and the stupid afl vs soccer vs RL vs RU arguments. you know you're struggling for intelligent talkback when this is raised as a subject.

fair enough you just like footy and cricket. i love cricket discussion on sen, especially hoggy. i also love and play heaps of different sports so can appreciate talkback or discussion about them. let's face it it would be difficult to talk afl all day at the moment, would have to start topics like "who's the best player to wear the no. 1?" and so on.

if you could be sen program manager one day what would you do program wise?

SCRAP BEST OF SEN AND REPLAY THE AFL GAMES THAT THEY COVERED

sen muppets...

On a related note, I listen to ABC in the mornings at the moment. Each morning from 7:40-7:45, one of their sports reporters comes on to briefly talk sport - such as Crackers Keenan, Kelly Underwood and others.

This morning some new guy was on - Josh someone (didn't catch his last name). All he talked was tennis. Now I was half asleep at the time but I'm quite certain he was hopeless, even the pronunciation of basic tennis surnames he made difficult.

Red Symons at one point asked how Baghdatis faired yesterday, because Red is a big fan. I'm sure I heard this Josh bloke spent the next two minutes talking about how Baghdatis lost, however he was not disgraced because he lost to a seed (Soderling) and it's all over for Marcos for 2009 - but I couldn't believe it.

In reality, Baghdatis won yesterday 3-6 7-5 6-3 6-3.

They spent a half hour on stingrays today because Hille was stung by one.

AFL is the only sport they really cover, the rest is just filler. And even when they go to other sports or topics, it all gets related to AFL.

Barack Obama was compared to Brett Ratten and America to Carlton, because they are 'rebuilding' . . . . terrible.

Who knows why I listen? It's only when i'm driving at any rate. Otherwise it's iPod all the way.

Get a cassette adapter for your iPod and listen to it in the car ;)

The reason they always go back to talking AFL is because it's the only sport the presenters really know. Their knowledge of tennis is comprised of reading the media reports during the past few days of the Open, and it's the same for all sports. Even someone like James Willoughby actually watches soccer games and has a passion for the sport. I think KB and Francis are the only ones like him at the station, who can follow more than just AFL.

3AW is no better. Tony Shaw just criticized Brad Hodge for pulling out of the Twenty20 final with a hamstring injury, saying it didn't bother him in the game against Queensland as he was still able to score a half-century. Hey Tony, how does a so-called sportsman get to your age and not know the rule for batsmen being allowed a runner?

Anyone that played AFL is an idiot.

KB, Finey, the diegos, and the run home during footy season are the only shows worth listening to. Don't get me started on Doran, Maher or Matt Thompson, the latter is ok with news updates but as a presenter on sports central on dead weekends...

Or melbourne victory for that matter

gladiators was a bit of fun last night. straight after the victory game joffa rings up and says there's basically too much soccer on, stop it and get on with the footy talk. i think it took finey by surprise :D

Interesting if that is the Pies Joffa because Joff is always lamenting that our Cheer Squad should be more Soccer like.......If that was the Collingwood FC employee Joffa?
