I don't understand why people think the AFL is against freedom of speech. They cop it from every media outlet almost every day of the week - a lot of it is deserved too.

Don't know what Robbo is trying to achieve here. He is good mates with Thomas (no disclaimer in his article I notice) so anything he says is going to be tainted.

Interesting article from Fpatprick today in the Oz. Says he works 3 hours a week at SEN and has never once been approached by SEN to temper his comments on anything. And if he was told, he would resign.

Andy Maher admitted before 7am this morning that SEN management give firm instructions to all on-air staff to (1) not make personal attacks, and (2) not go on and on about AFL/umpiring decisions, because it may damage the AFL brand.

Nothing wrong with that. You should not attack someone personally in the media - there could be legal ramifications for a start.

If going on and on about umpiring decisions damages the SEN brand then I completely agree. It is fair dinkum sleep inducing.

There is no evidence that the AFL have implicitly directed SEN to make statements that are not conducive to the AFL.

However I will say that some of SEN's management decisions over the past few years have been extremely puzzling and I would not be surprised in the slightest to see them issue directives to their staff in the mistaken belief that it will curry favours with the AFL. Although Patrick Smith states that he has never been instructed not to say anything negative.

I find it surprising that of all people Grannt Thomas has been singled out. He works a couple of hours a week during the football season and really he is hardly controversial. He mentions umpiring decisions now and then. Wow.....

Just off topic the poor overnight guy getting all giddy when Wigan were 1 nil up,imploring all you Liverpool fans to awake and the title door opening. :p:p:p

SEn management are in la la land saying the decision to sack Thomas is a financial one when they are paying him out for the remainder of the season.

Nick Jewel has been let go for the footy season as well, starting tonight.

I think Grant Thomas is possibly the biggest tool that football has ever produced ["coaching services" - need I say more!] but this whole affair has cruelled the image of SEN because it boasts that the talk back sets the agenda - now we know it does provided it does not conflict with the AFL

Did you mean "training services"?

As has Simon Marshall's Saturday morning racing show.

wtf? thats bullshit.
yet they still have that recreational boating and fishing rubbish on "let's head on out now to big mal out at mallacoota, how's things big mal?"

this will have something to do with hutchy and crocmedia buying up all the airspace i'll bet.

Maybe all the hosts need to start arranging their own funding like the overnight boys...

Was it Karma what happened to Cornflakes, considering the rumours of him shafting Blighty in the Back at St.Kilda ?

He’s not the only one who’s correct assessment of the Roo`s are they are a basket case. Thommo was great. You’re just pissed that the girl Brayshaw you have is a total poonce

He was a great guy when he worked at Mercantile Mutual in Perth as well!!
Any football coach who refers to "free market disciplines" and Key Performance Indicators deserves the sack for believing that Human Resource Management is a credible academic discipline
