....but seriously, I usually thoroughly enjoy Peakey at anytime, particularly with Finey.....however when he's with Howard Lee, his blood pressure rises sky high, and he's ready to blow a fuse..

They definately do NOT get along and it comes across on radio..its time to separate the two IMO....never to be heard of again in the same show..

Peakey doesn't seem to have a problem with H. Cotton or others he does shows with, just H. Lee..

Time to go Mr Lee.

Whose wouldn't? I've been listening to the gladiators of sport for years and I don't understand how Peakey gets more hate than Howard. Howard continually changes the subject to something completely irrelevant and unrelated to what they are talking about, he makes comments but then fails to back them up - probably usually just to berate Stephen, - too often he needs things to be repeated like he isn't paying attention, and says some moronic things to the point of me wondering how he keeps a job, etc. He is the worst on air talent at SEN imo. Peakey isn't perfect and can be frustrating to listen to as well, but I'd rather listen to him all day than Howard for 10 minutes.

I don't listen to SEN over summer (but have listened since 2004 over the footy season) and for someone who has been a sports journalist for decades, it never ceases to amaze me how little Howard Leigh knows about sport.

When I think of an AFL media department , I think of those two guys who would censor all the news that Robin Williams character , Adrian Cronauer , would like to read but it would damage the image of the US military (AFL) if the "truth" was reported , in the film Good Morning Vietnam.

Hope that douchebag Cameron Luke doesn't replace him though on the weekend spots, he's even more annoying then Matt Thompson.

This post is spot on. Whenever they are discussing a topic, e.g. Andrew Swallow has been announced as NM captain, Howard will always, ALWAYS interrupt and ask "Where's he from?". He expects the other presenters to guess different country towns and it takes a good one to two minutes to get back on to topic. Pretty much every person they bring up, no matter the topic, Howard will focus on where they come from.

The Road to the Super Bowl for …

This should and interesting road to somewhere with the gambling sponsor getting three plugs in the intro title.

Hmmm, no Wyatt Earp or Steak Salisbury on hand for this show on a big US sporting event, but US sports fans, Hutchy, Dermott Brereton, and surprise, show sponsor, Alan Excalibur. Wait a minute? Dermot Brereton? WTF!

First things first: Just how many markets Mr. Excalibur has up at his website in a bid to slice, dice, and eviscerate the contents of the listeners’ wallets. And it’s a total of 70. Excalibur is exuberant at the lead-up to the big game. The elephant in the room here is that most of those markets are about as handy as a roulette wheel.

Give you a tiny bit of advice: being flat-out with work has never bothered me
-A little gem from "The Kid" for Excalibur who was too busy with work to attend the game.

Dermie’s away and he is impressed with the home-town crowd fully embracing the event. It’s “circus central, party time in the middle of the town.” Dermie’s been reading “a lot of the diatribe about the place. “Remember how so many thousands of people who donated there time for the Sydney Olympics; the volunteers; well they needed 8,000 and they got 13 (000). The city’s right behind it.”

Diatribe (n): A bitter verbal or written attack on somebody or something.
Thus, the former Hawk is starting 2012 in mid-season form.

The excitement here from Hutchy for the “colour, the band, and the atmosphere and the feel” is palpable. The informed Excalibur moves things forward by asking “who are the locals going for? Which of the two teams?”
Hutchy: That’s a good question-
Dermie: I’m getting the feeling that they’re going for New York. I think just being sort of up to the north a bit they’re a little bit closer. So I think there’s a tiny rivalry there already.

Hutchy’s a little slow but finally switches on the light bulb and alerts his compadres that the most famous and beloved athlete in Indianapolis history has a brother playing for the G-men of New York. No mention though that the City’s most hated and bitter rival over the last dozen years is - the New England Patriots! Sheesh.

Some blather about Peyton Manning and his contract with the Indianapolis Colts’ owner … and just like that, now we’re back to betting on the event. The Hutchmeister is impressed with the smart odds-making capabilities of the team at Excalibur’s betting website in regards to a crap-shoot market versus the game winning market. Hutch thinks it unthinkable that Tom Brady is an outsider on passing yards in a Super Bowl. He knows that’s baloney but he’s accommodating the sponsor. Excalibur all but marvels at the “nuances” of setting markets that is, of course, roulette wheel-like gambling.

Dermie reflects on the blanket coverage the event gets on TV shows and Excalibur chimes in on how statistically orientated the coverage is and, hello, he wants to know if they ever talk about betting. Dermie learns that sports gambling in the US is, like, illegal (excluding Atlantic City and Vegas). Some confused yap about why Americans always only use betting lines when tipping or predicting. Excalibur loves tipping with lines and thinks it’s more enjoyable, but no answers as to why bookies love lines.

Dermie turns discussion to night life and Snoop Dog … and now we’re on to Little Miss Ciccone who is in the same hotel as our Hutchy and is doing the half-time entertainment. What songs will she sing? And, for that we go to Excalibur and his betting markets. Yes, he’s got prices for all this, much to the amusement of the now constantly giggling Brereton. Got a price for whether she’ll wear fishnet stockings, too.

Finally we’re onto the teams. Hutchy should deliver here, being free from the constraints of the American sports-hating Limerick Pickering who cuts him off anytime he tries to use US sports as an analogy for cricket or footy on Saturday’s Off The Bench. Stragely, Hutchy mostly blunders through some interviews with players that have trouble with his dialect and these brilliant little Sheahan-like nuggets:

Hutchy: We have our own football called Australian Rules football; we don’t wear pads
Christian Hopkins: Rugby?
Hutchy: Australian Rules football; it’s an indigenous game to Australia but we don’t wear pads
Christian Hopkins: What dat? Tackle?
Hutchy: Yeah, can you imagine playing without pads?
Christian Hopkins: Yeah, I played since I was a little boy. Yeah, definitely can.
Hutchy: What’s your prediction? $2.20 outsiders on [sponsor’s website] in Australia. We love to have a bet. We get on [sponsor’s website]; have a bet on the weekend. Outsiders? Do you think that’s a fair summation or do you think you should be favourites?
Christian Hopkins: [confused] I bet on; what’s that again?
Hutchy: We’re gamblers; we’re a nation of gamblers, Australia. Do you think you can win the game?
Christian Hopkins: Do I think I can win what game?
Hutchy: The Super Bowl
Christian Hopkins: Who, us?
Hutchy: Yeah.
Christian Hopkins: Nah, I’m not into all that…

Here we go. Hutch and his hombres are about to discuss differences between US private sports ownership and the bureaucracy that is the AFL and how and why the US players and coaches are so accommodating to the media. Hutch loves how all the players and coaches, past and present, are available to the media and how it should happen a lot more in Australia. But, I guess they’re not going to discuss differences.

Now we’re discussing the NY Giants and we start where else, but Excalibur’s prices. After weighing through all the roulette wheel-like props, finally the former Hawk Great comes through with a salient point about 29 players in the game being undrafted. Here we go; a discussion on why the depth of the NFL draft compared to the AFL draft won’t-
Nup, no such luck. We’re onto to the betting prices for one of those undrafted players to win the MVP.

With that, we’re done with the G-men and on to the Patsies. A little reference to the bagging of the “Golden Boy,” Tom Brady coming out of college but no talk of how he was often great for Michigan was totally blundered by the NFL scouts’ assessments and Excalibur asserts that waking up next to Gisele Bundchen is a good get. Dermie is apparently shaking his head at Bundchen reference as Excalibur gives out the prices on Brady’s MVP chances.

A little discussion of the importance of QBs, as Hutchy turns to how stung the league-worst defence of the Pats has been forcing them to turn to offensive player, Julian Edelman who “has had to play unprecedentedly, if that’s a word, on both sides of the ball. He’s played offence and defence. He’s the only player in the country in my time covering the game.”

News for Sir Hutchalot is that WR, Troy Brown played both sides of the ball and had three interceptions several years ago for his team – the New England Patriots! With all the moves this team has made, and the cheating, and the free agents let go, players no one else wanted, and the risk taking of signing the head-stomping Albert Haynesworth (already cut) and trading for the artist formerly known as Chad Johnson (a bust), so forth and so on – we’re back to the best bet on the Pats.

I do detect a theme in this show.


Some predictions to finish. Dermie goes with G-men, Excalibur yaps on about form, confidence, self-belief, $2.24 represents good value … the plus represents … yada, yada, yada. Hutchy likes value for Eli Manning winning MVP, and, tips New York.

Man, this was poor stuff. Hutchy’s better than this, but I’m taking the overs - because I’m guessing there’s a betting market - that Hutchy and "The Kid" have been mostly researching, scheming, strategizing, and machinating on how to get into that Maxim party so we can get another Brooklyn Decker story that will send the Hutchy haters running into the street in a state of apoplexy.
