Re: The SEN Thread 8

Ouch. Leach is quality. And so is Lloyd on Crunchtime.

Will need to unearth some new talent, Mooney likely to get a gig at some radio station. Now thinking SEN might be it.

4 to 7 is far too important a timeslot to be giving to a new person - and Ox still needs a bit of hand holding himself.

Leading candidates would be:
Huddo - no longer has football commitments at Ten so has free time. Flip side has been there before and not sure he and Oz bounce that well off each other.
Mark Allen - has good chemistry with Schwartz and a broad every day persons knowledge of most sports. Can rub people up the wrong way though (I have no idea why)
Dr Turf - if he can put the form guide down between Monday and Friday, then surely would have to be the first choice. Lots of experience and great rapport with Ox.

A real shame Francis is going. TRH is one of the major reasons why SEN is one of the leading stations in Melbourne today.
Dr

Dammit Lloydy. Why did you have to go to Finey's favourite station?

T.Wallace to replace him on crunch time.

Re: The SEN Thread 8

Mark Allen better not be Leach's replacement, can't stand listening to him. For one thing he's a yes man and he doesn't have any real knowledge of sports other than golf.

Drive is an important slot it needs someone with more oomph.

i reckon his knowledge of sport is good. at least he has played at a professional level unlike leach.

leach's bread and butter is soccer and afl.
allen of course knows his golf. but hes not too bad on the others

him and ox work well together.

Re: The SEN Thread 8

Have to agree with that, the bloke reckons he's an expert on all things.

Second that:thumbsu:
This blokes a bigger turncoat than Celtic pride, leaves for Vega quoting "job of a lifetime", that turns to shit and he gets an even better job back at the station he shat on.
I understand the opportunity to call an Olympic games is huge but that's twice he's extremely disloyal. I saw his tweet yesterday exclaiming to his followers that they needn't despair because he's still around for a little while yet. I tweeted back good riddance and don't bother coming back, again.

Re: The SEN Thread 8

Third that!:thumbsu:

Not real keen on him, seems very full of himself.....I hope when he comes running back with his tail between his legs, they tell him to bugger off.........you've done it once too often Franky boy....good luck at the abc, where a man and his dog listen..

...p.s......I like Mark Allen, hope he gets the job!

Changing jobs is disloyalty now?

Re: The SEN Thread 8

if we as a BF SEN thread community put our heads together we'd cum up with a host that:

- only talks afl
- talks about other sports
- talks about stuff other than sport
- no soccer
- no motorsport
- no horseracing
- etc

Having been a part of the SEN thread since the first one I can only agree. It is always debated about what sports are covered and that there is too much of one, not enough of another, should be none on one and so on. What I have always felt is that there is enough time in a 24 hour period to cover a range of sports. SEN will always focus on afl, but there should still be segments and shows dedicated to other sports.

I have to say I am surprised that Leach is leaving TRH considering its position right now as SEN's best rating program and also up there in the overall radio market. Personally the strength of trh is the ability to talk about other sports with a good amount of knowledge and that they bring in the entertainment factor with a variety of segments. A big reason for this is Leach and he and Schwartz have good chemistry on the show and it is a really good program to listen to.

I am not sure who they will get to replace Leach, but Allen does not seem like the best fit. He is good as someone who comes in and hosts a segment or comes on a show for an hour, but as a host in an important slot he does not do it for me. Hudson did well when he was host previously, but I can't see him doing FT with sen again seeing as he will probably be one of the main commentators on Foxtel next year.

Allen has a laymans knowledge of other sports, Leach may not have played but he does his research, I doubt Allen has researched anything beyond what he reads in the papers.

Re: The SEN Thread 8

So, I was trying to think of a suitable replacement for Francis, like you all have, taking into account as many possible factors, and no one instantly sprang to mind already at the station. Thought of options from other stations...nothing, although the suggestion I heard today of Chad Cornes teaming up with Ox was funny. Continued further thought, the only option I could think of was Ed Wyatt...I would be cool with him, any of you think he could work?

I think he knows a fair bit about cricket and baseball.

agree with everything youve said except for the did @ leach not playing at a professional level. has nothing to do with it. clinton grybas was one of the best hosts in the history of sports media ever but never played.

ed wyatt, intersting.....like him and is knowledgeable....but the average joe out there would bemoan it cause he's american.

Too true, although I think it would be great.

He is a long time radio host who has a decent understanding of AFL, commentates A-leagues games for Aussie Digital if Im not mistaken, has great knowledge of American sports and was pretty good with the pop culture sort of stuff on BUSA too.

Ed is a legend - can do everything and has a great voice for radio. Mark Allen has grown on me and him and Ox seem to have good chemistry.

I agree that Frank can be sanctimonious at times - seems a curious time to go to Granstand

OH yes yes yes yes yes. I've been calling for Ed to have a more substantial spot on SEN for years. He'd be perfect.

and not many out there would remember that ad used do the afl report for sbs sports programs/news.

he's an excellent host, agreed. but i dont think they'll go for him.

by the way, one of my favourite segments on SEN OF ALL TIME is when rohan dummett is on with KB. Lots of golf tips. really enjoyable whenever im lucky enough to have the radio on at the same time.

Re: The SEN Thread 8

As much as I love Ed, I just can't see him in that slot. Particularly as host. Can you imagine him interviewing Adrian Anderson when a big AFL story breaks? Or talking in depth with Robbo or Derm about the weekend's footy or the big issues of the week? Don't think so.

Also don't think Ox would have the slightest interest in most of what Ed does in his slot with Harf.

Very accomplished, but not for TRH.
