I am not sure SEN were there to "out rate" anyone. They wanted the football to ensure the games that don't normally get broadcast WILL be. Which means most of the games wont be the main games. So why would they even contemplate "out rating" other stations with the majority of the lesser rated games???

Who knows, down the track they might get better games, but they aren't in the mix for it straight up.

disagreeing with the post above...

I don't see why SEN's ratings can't outrate some other stations in football..

If you consider that they have every Friday night, they will always be competitive on a Friday night in terms of what game they call as it is the same as every other station...then on a Saturday they will fall a little behind but alot of the time the game their call will involve a victorian side.... Saturday night they could easily be competitive as there are never blockbuster games..

We then come to Sunday which I think will be a big hit for SEN.. They have the early 1 oclock game which means it will get coverage and often includes a richmond or calrton or collingwood travelling interstate. then the twilight game will have some great games with the likes of:

Round 1: Carlton v Richmond
Round 2: Bulldogs v Adelaide
Round 6: Richmond v Geelong
Round 10: St Kilda v Geelong
Round 12: West Coast v St Kilda
Round 13: Collingwodd v Hawthorn
Round 21: Richmond v Essendon
Round 22: Melbourne v Carlton

They will only be up against ABC on twilight Sunday games and will be sure to offer something different to the ABC..

Looking for SEN to be a big hit with footy fans over the season, will take 2 or 3 seasons for results to show but dont be suprised if they can become the leader in footy coverage..

They also have the likes of Saturday Spotlight with Marko and Pickers on a Saturday morning which I believe can become a real trademark for them to build there Saturday coverage on..

Just my thoughts and feel free to disagree

saturday spotlight is the best show by a mile imo, no egos like the shows during the week and they sound like they would be if they were at a pub or something

as much as i listen to sen i doubt id be listening to the footy unless my team was playing, i hope they take it seriously and get proper talent and not just reward people for being loyal

can't say to much but what i can say is that I think you will be happy with the footy commentary team and they won't be just rewarding loaylty... They are searching outside the SEN boundaries and I have a feeling a few SEN personalities could be very dissapointed in what happens for them personally..

Just because SEN have the "B Package" all it means is they paid less for games which will alot of the time be better than the "blockbuster" games which end up being fizzers. Their ratings will depend on the quality of the callers, not so much the games. Hopefully they can build a solid commentary team over the next couple of years as what they have at the moment isn't anything special compared to other stations.

its got nothing to do with quality of games its going to just be more interstate games so at most 1 victorian club and then all of the hawks tassie games

I agree with the thoughts on Chuck Berry,

What do you think of the NBL coverage??

Generally very good. Was interesting to hear Anthony Hudson call the basketball last night. Seemed like he wasn't that comfortable and was over compensating a lot of the time.

According to today's Hun, Dermie and Matt Granland are as good as already signed by SEN. Obviosuly Derm's patched things up.

New candidate for worst SEN advert - that ********ing Boss Hoggs Hotdogs Ad!

Obviously all of the management Dermie had trouble with have left...

Matt Granland is a good caller and suffered last year with Hutchys move to AW.. I can see big things for him at SEN..

Grant Thomas I am not a fan off...

rumours that huddo is leaving the run home :thumbsu:

he sucks anyway because he offers nothing and you can tell how much the show improves when the ox has someone else to talk to that doesnt act all smug and cut him off all the time

Listened to On the rise this morning, and Harf and Richo crap all over MG. It's a shame that name recognition attracts more listeners than the quality of the show.

I actually think Huddo is the best talent they have on the air. Think he is the ultimate host, and doesn't pretend that he knows more than he does, and the rapport he and Ox has is Gold. That said, Ox with anyone is gold.

Ox has improved 10 fold since he started at the station. I remember he used to hate (perhaps too strong a word) soccer. But he now loves the game and can appreciate that theres room for all codes.

I think this shows how he has become a well rounded person in sporting knowledge terms. He's improved himself immensely.

I enjoy huddo and ox, they are quite funny, Ox and that evil laugh of his. I also enjoy Morning Glory, but can't stand Richo's voice and his opinions are childish in my book. I think Tim is such a stiff, seriously I am tipping he wears flannel pj's and slippers.

I enjoy that show though as they talk to me a lot.

Don't get to listen to a lot of the other's in the off football season. I only listen when there is something of newsworthy to hear. A scoop or something. But the other two I hear on my walk of a morning and drive home.

I'd really like to hear Gary Lyon come on the station somewhere. Always enjoy listening to him.

I wonder if they've looked into broadcasting Victoria's cricket matches. I'd definately listen in as there's no way else for me to follow what's happening.

Plus listening to Grandstand on ABC throughour the summer, I think they have the ultimate format. Send reporters/commentators to everything and anything worth covering, get 2-5 minute reports at a time with the host as a mediator/anchor rather than an opinion based person, rotate through the reports and get live commentary of the big events.

I like the talkback and discussion on SEN, but after a few years it's getting a bit repetitive, especially over Summer. Maybe the live events such as basketball, soccer don't rate well enough to get more live sport, but i hope it's been considered.

I'd say SEN isn't far from that format anyway. They have reporters at most events, and frequent updates, but the anchor position is in the studio doing talkback.

I agree ABC do a great coverage of sport, especially during the Olympics and such, but you can't have that format 24-7.

I never thought I'd willingly listen to another station while sport was on the radio but kevin Bartlett's boring as bat droppings 'Hungry for Sport' has me listening to Jon Faine in the mornings.

Kev-get over golf, we dont want to hear about insignificant tournaments day after day.

I'm through sticking up for KB - he really has lost the plot bigtime. Used to be very good and did his homework with every sport but lately its just been ********e.

The amount of golf talk is just boring and lazy.:thumbsd:
Maybe they should just rest KB when the footy is not on.

PLSC ..no way would they move Huddo from the run home that would be stupid.
even when the ratings have been bad the run home has been one of the best rating shows on the station.
If the morning glory is meant to be the most important then the run home is also pretty important.
Hudson is one of the best on the station , you only have to compare the fill in hosts whilst he has been away , the overnight guy Tony and the golfer Allen both try hard but are just fill ins and couldnt be the main hosts every day they have no where near the polish or knowledge of an Anthony Hudson, not many at Sen do.
If this new Program manager changes Hudson off the run home then he is a " ******** ", but then it wouldnt surprise me given some of the decisions made at Sen.

Huddo will not be doing the run home and the way it was reported was as if it was off hios own back... three games of AFL a weekend and a drive program is to much..

You couldn't be more wrong. Huddo does not have the appeal that you speak of and he often brings down the run home. When OX hosts the program with Liam Pickering or Mark Allan it is much more entertaining.:thumbsu: The run home's ratings have been nothing to write home about, last time I saw some ratings figures they had only a slight increase on KB & Doran's ratings even though they are in the much better drive time slot.

Wouldn't mind if they had Mark Allan and OX host it permanently as long as they don't turn in to the morning glory with jokes about frothies every 5 mins.:thumbsd:
