If I hear the ad with Matt Hardy saying that line about how he's so Aussie he thought Mardi Gras was Glenn McGrath's brother, I'll smash my radio.

Mark Snoran is funnier than Matt Hardy.

I am over that ad as well - I know he isnt funny, but surely they couldve found a better joke than that one, its just not funny!

I agree

Like the caller Vito from Carlton said Cartlon made Chris Judd an offer he could not refuse, play for Carlton or never walk again, Francis quickly remind Vito from Carlton that Chris Judd had the walking problem this year.

Any ideas who this Vito bloke from Carlton is, same for Terrance from Toorak, and Sebbie from Spain on the Golf Show, All are classics.

yep vito and terrance are guns, although they are characters

seve from spain is a real golfer - seve ballesteros

Very funny accidental pun this morning. Andy Maher said that later in the show they'll be talking to someone from gayfooty.com, because yesterday they got their pole out...

Does anybody know why SEN have a big advertisement on their website says Download SEN PODCASTS!! When firstly they don't even have podcasts in their regular sense of downloading them through itunes and secondly they don't even really have many podcasts that come up regularly. Really all they have is sports updates. Occasionally an interview comes up but extremely rarely.

SEN's decision to get rid of overnights is a joke.

Their website is nothing short of woeful, with only barebones information on each show - its streaming is below average at best.

While other stations use their websites to promote their brand and use it as a genuine way to keep in touch with its listeners, SEN still think it is 1996 - "and who knows, this internet thing might catch on one day".

But back to WSO ... what kind of self respecting talk station goes to supposed highlights overnight?

How can the station promote itself as 'All sport - All day' when it is anything but.

Take for example the Essendon B & F last night. The winner was announced after Mark Fine went off air. The next opportunity for any discussion? The Morning Glory some seven hours later.

What they are playing overnight is sometimes repeats of repeats which are months old - just not good enough.

Believe it or not, sports news breaks overnight. What the overnight team can do is interview sportspeople who may be starring in Europe as the news happens, rather than having to wait till it is daytime in Australia.

As much as SEN is a commercial operation, the compaionship which radio provides cannot be underestimated. For those on shift work, for those who can't sleep, or simply those who like to hear a bit of sports chat in the early hours.

Even then, if SEN can have AFL stars of present and past as commentators on big salaries, and at the same time hire young, inexperienced people as producers or assistant producers to give them 'a break into the industry' at relatively low pay, why can't they hire an overnight guy?

The looser format of overnight programming means we've had shows like the Gladiators, and even the much missed Ring of Fire.

SEN may have increased ratings, but seem to be making the same mistakes the old 3AK use to make. For a moment they do something well, but they screw over the listeners who have stayed loyal to the station since it started.

They are the listeners who sat through the ill-fated move to Adelaide. Who heard that awful swimming show and cycling show. Who remember when they were going through their first financial crisis they even got rid of overnights on weekends.

They now have gotten rid of weekends overall.

On this thread, there have been more than 2000 posts of people who although have differing opinions on different presenters on the staion, but who are all passionate about Melbourne maintaining a 24/7 sports station.

It is the best market research you can get - better than any survey company can provide. And it is clear what the listeners think.

SEN may think it is okay to ignore the views of people on this thread, the emails they get, or the phone calls of complaint. However, if they are not careful, one day that phone won't ring, becuase we will become sick and tired of being treated like second class citizens, and will look online or to other stations.

It is strange how a station which sells itself as finding the inside story on sport, is itself silent - lacking the openness and accountability which its listeners deserve.

Top f*cking post puddingfactor.

I don't listen to SEN anymore since they turfed WSO. Ill volunteer to produce after midnight Ill just claim it as work for the dole. Doesn't worry me.

If they were serious about cost cutting what about BP for the afternoon shifts... They would pay him less then Doran. Could start there.

We need to get some of those on SEN to help us, I am thinking of seeing if I can speak to Steve of the American show as he was the one that read out my text last Sunday having a go at the Sen mgt.W
What was good was that he also started to have a go at them himself after he had read my text saying it was a shocking decision that nothing was on after they had finished the American show.
My only worry is that the two people we are trying to help have been the ones that havent had the guts to say anything as well ,BP or Tony.
Would have thought that with all of our calls our texts our listening to them both for years that at least one of them would have had the honesty to say thanks for listening and sorry about this happening.
Thought BP especially was better than that .

In defence of BP (and to a lesser extent Tony I guess), you shouldn't bite the hand that feeds you.

Hey guys Brett Phillips has made a statement on the World Sport Overnight Forums:

To the WSO listeners,

Like you are, the team that has worked on WSO are disappointed with what has transpired in the last 2 weeks.

When i hosted the show for the last time last Tuesday week i was unaware it would be the last show. On the one off Grand Final Marathon show last Friday night, you will appreciate i couldn't turn the show into a SEN bashing session.

What i can tell you is that myself and Mark Franklin are passionate about getting this show back up and running for the long term brand of the station and we realise more than anyone at the station of the service the show provides.

I also want to add, that i and Mark are not privy to the inner workings of the business that is SEN and how and why they make their decisions. At the end of the day they are entitled to make the best decisions for the business to prosper long term and for all of us sports fans we certainly want that. WSO certainly wasn't cut due to the product, but the fact that it is an expense that doesn't generate revenue.

From my own point of view as Tony's stand in, it wasn't my show to go out and sell. My hands were tied there.

It is disappointing that the listeners aren't given an explanation from the station, but that is out of our control.

Going forward myself and Mark are going to give it everything to get Live Overnight radio back on SEN and we will keep you posted.

If you have any questions in the meantime, i will be happy to answer them.

Cheers

Brett Phillips

At least he is trying to get it back up and running. He seems like a very good guy. Good to see he is making an effort for us WSO listeners!

SEN don't really communicate major decisions to their listeners do they? Someone needs to tell them that it is better for them to be up front and honest and not hide everything.

I'm starting to miss the Agitator and Stephen J Peake.

Just the amount of discussions those guys bring overnight just makes it so enjoyable to listen to.

Not stupid replays of Doran.

I've got good news.
No Agigitator who i'm missing too.

But Gladiators of Sport will be on tonight from 11-1. I'm guessing it will be with BP.

Apparently it is a weekly thing.

If anybody misses it i should be taping it.
