You've misunderstood it. They currently use tests that only identify covid. They want to kill more birds with one stone by using tests that also identify influenza.

They also fit the age profiles where the vast majority of essential workers come from. And I daresay grocery shoppers.

Sydney have no chance if they follow Dan's lead and try to pin it all on restriction breakers, rather than focusing on where the majority of spread is actually occurring.

I guess the quote is in regard to NSW cases and I also note that it was from 24 days ago. However, I also believe it is incorrect as I understand that one of the first transmissions of this outbreak in Sydney was from the original limo driver to a woman from fleeting contact outside of a coffee shop (it may have been semi outside if there were awnings I guess).

There's certainly been cases of outside transmission in VIC at both the MCG and Aami.

This is an entirely different strain of Covid and spreads differently.

We all know that a lot of people with Covid don’t get sick. A lot of people with influenza don’t get sick too.

A mix of misdirection and wrongheadedness. I could post a dozen refutations but there is not point. I'll be in a circular spiral of doom for ages.

Does it tell you if you are sick? I dont know what that is supposed to mean, the test is telling you if you have COVID dna in your body consistent with infection. Becoming sick from that is a different kettle of fish. It has never been about who is sick, its about who is infected and able to spread it. We already know a lot of patients are asymptomatic, I dont know why that is some revelation.

Can it be contaminated? Sure, thats why there are elaborate protocols to ensure it isnt.

All of which is a long way from speaking at all by the way to your previous contention that Flu could give a false positive for COVID.

There are plenty who by the way have taken PCR a long way forward since its invention who are very comfortable in the capacity of the technique to identify viral presence. The video is from 1993 - There are plenty of techniques known to chemistry that have moved from at best qualitative to quantitative and verifiable in that timeline. This is one of them.

I have no idea what to do with someone who has no specialised knowledge in an area, reads materials they have no basis to understand or more likely, is sent deliberate misinformation in Instagram and telegram groups of likeminded individuals such as Ali Haydar, gets the wrong end of the stick, has their error pointed out, and stubbornly sticks to their interpretation anyway. It's beyond my comprehension.

You continue to receive knowingly false information from whatever sources you seek your COVID knowledge from. You post them. OK. They are shown to be hoaxes, deliberate misinformation. Thats ok, you arent an expert or trained in these areas, its easy to be misled.

But, when confronted with this, instead you double down. Every single time. Usually aggressively and with an air of condescension. It never seems to dent your absolute certainty in the sources you rely on. Why? What else is going on here?

Ive tried to be polite. Ive tried to. But I've had it to the gunwales with it.

God knows we need discussion and debate, and there are more than enough areas where discussion is overdue, but this is just pure out and out wrong. They could use antigen tests instead that pick up about 95% of the symptomatic cases detected by pcr tests, but only about 60% of asymptomatic or pre-sympomatic cases picked up by the pcr tests. It'd knock off about 15% from the overall global case numbers, but wouldn't alter death stats. I'm not sure why they would though other than as rapid tests at workplaces or borders, as it'd make tracing and containment much less effective .
