Not sure where I stand on him. How long did other Irish projects take to develop (Kennelly, Stynes, Wight)? How does he compare to them at this stage in their development?

From what I remember, none of those players had the same troubles adjusting, in terms of looking so completely lost at times and poor disposal. Maybe Setanta has just been thrown into the fire too early because we have such a crap team, but he isn't overly impressive at this stage.

From what Pagan said Stynes took 5 years, 3 years for Kennely, who could forget Stynes walk over the mark tho that cost Melbourne a grand final in 87? he won the brownlow a few years later. If Setanta made a mistake like that we would be calling for his head. I think Setanta is doing alrite its his 3rd year. Should persist next year at least.

Players with his size, athletic ability and work ethic are extremely rare. Definately worth persevering with.
agreed ...give the big fella a fair go ....they take longer to develop anyway ....was very impressed with him last week .
also it appears he has a hip injury

I'm happy to keep persisting with him. I reckon he hit more targets with his 6 possessions percentage wise, than Stevens did.

Hooray, finally, after over a year of lambasting this squid (and being shot down for it) people are starting to realise that he's no good.

He is a receiver and his job should be - receive handballs and deliver to our guys. The amount of times he misses targets as a receiver are astonishing.

And to think they want to make him captain!

agreed...that stevens is the biggest frontrunner ive seen. anything goes wrong though and out comes the finger pointing,
geeez who saw his attempted overhead marks? absolutetly craps himself and straight thru the fingers.

Agree ODN, but he really needs to improve below his knees. I know he's a big bloke, but he just over-ran the ball too many times on Sunday. I really hope that's something he works on over the preseason.

For a bloke of his size and pace, he should be persisted with for at least next year.

I think setanta will be fine once he has another seanson under his belt, he is raw and still coming to grips with our game and his inexperience shows him in a bad light as much as his different technique does when striking the ball. I think he will have a bloody good career when it is all said and done and i hope the boy suceeds.:thumbsu:

Well said, bonzer. He showed over the last month of the season that as his confidence grew so did his output. For Setanta it was probably a shame the season ended when it did because he was really starting to put it together. Fortunately he got to continue his run of form in the VFL finals. I am pretty certain he will be in Carlton's starting 18 in Round 1 next season and will probably play every game (injury permitting).

Carlos is 1 of the most exciting prospects we have on our list and will play plenty of senior footy next year.:thumbsu:

Well said all round.

We all grew up playing the game out on the street, down at the park or in the school yard. It really comes as natural to us as breathing does sometimes...

The big fella has only been playing the game for how long now? What were we like after playing for that short an amount of time?

I like him and I definitely like his attitude. He has stood up when called upon and in a couple of his games, he had absolutely no reason to walk around with his head hanging low.

Give him a couple of years and everyone who is bagging him now will be singing his praises.

The kid is a natural sportsman and will be a huge success I think
