Did they ever explain why Dutchy boy killed that cat?

rewatching this show with my house mate, saw this episode last night

i'll give it a crack

dutch had just caught the cuddler rapist (dude who r*ped elderly women and then cuddled them afterwards) the guy wanted dutch to tell him why he did what he did, dutch kept referring to text book responses and profiles, the cuddler said he couldn't go on talking to dutch because dutch didnt know what he was going through, he'd never taken a life

Not exactly, I figured it was part of his investigative obsession - if memory serves correct a crim he had just busted spoke about the feeling of looking in someone's eyes as they died and Dutch was curious so he tried it. Plus he probably really wanted to kill the cat anyway.

yeah your on the ball with that !

I felt sad a little when it ended, Vic looked pathetic stuck behind the office.

As he got his mojo not by being a cop but being a cop on the streets.

He was suppose to submit 5 reports / week for 3 years lol. that in itself is like a prison sentence lol.

felt for Ronnie going to jail arguably the most innocent amongs the lot.

If I were a cop I would be Vic Mackey lol not sure what that says about me, lol. :p

There is thoughts that a movie is being considered I havent read anything since June 09 has someone seen anything recently about a movie for this magnificent show.

It needs a proper closure for me.

a bit hard to have a movie when of the 4 Strike Team members 2 are dead,1 in jail and another stuck behind a desk for 3 years.

I think what may have contributed to the end of the show was the out of control downward spiraling effect of the Strike team turning on each other.

I think what I will find when go down the path to watching these episodes again is that their loyalty and friendship is all a masquerade and is short lived.

I still think had Lem been killed by a gang leader the show would have had a nice symmetry to it. Vic could have played the perfect anti-hero to perfection. The strike team could have right to the bitter end avenged his death in pure "The Shield" style with the entire police force supportive of their behaviour.

IMO Two points spoiled this show for me Vic killing the undercover cop and Lem getting killed by Shane.

Everything else you could excuse and forgive.

Interesting side note in the last episode they show how the Black cop still has gay thoughts but its never commented on or addressed. Im not sure where that went in the end. Didnt he have a family now???????

Wat.

They were the two most pivotal points in the show.

lol yes I know very very true.

I think the thing is with Vic killing the under cover cop he was never ever going to recover from this unless the cop he killed was a dirty killing cop himself- which personally the writers should have made him out to be.

I remember thinking when I first saw this and thought to myself Vic Mackey as a character will never recover from this no matter how well he does later in life as a good person.

Secondly the killing of Lem was all wrong as I knew also there was no coming back from this either.

If anything this destroyed the mateship those guys had which I loved, I loved how the backed each other day in and day out which was the strength of the show. When they turned on each other it spoiled the show IMO.

I loved the money train story arc that was great.

Sadly the way Ten butchered the show by cutting and viewing it I missed the flow and continuity of it.

Hands down for its time though it was the best cop show going around.

The violence and sex and tough cop antics where great.

NYPD Blue defined the 90's as a cop show while the 00's was The Shield.

Maybe your right in implying that maybe what made it great was Vic killing the undercover cop and Shane killing Lem, I guess we can never really know.

In terms of a movie there is plenty of options out there, Vic could be called in to front up a new strike team as the neighborhood goes to hell with gangs etc. But this would only work as a TV movie and not a big budget production.

In the very unlikely event a movie is made, the only option that could work would be a prequel... but even then they'd be flogging a dead horse.

I don't think he should have been dirty, it set the tone right from the start that he was a survivor and would do anything to get by. Vic was a dirty cop, there would have been no need to kill the cop.

I remember thinking when I first saw this and thought to myself Vic Mackey as a character will never recover from this no matter how well he does later in life as a good person.

This was prevalent throughout the show, Mackey was never meant to have a redemption, just to handle it and move on. He made the hard decisions because no one else could.

Lem was the one who seemed to be redeemable, it didn't seem fair he had pay the ultimate price.

I was angry and sad. Angry at Shane for doing the unthinkable, angry at Vic for building Shane into the monster he became and angry that Lem tried to do the right thing by Shane and Vic, when they never did the right thing by him.

I felt sad for Shane that he thought this was the best thing for the rest of the strike team, and obviously sad that Lem was dead (favorite character).

I had never been so emotionally involved with a show before, I was shattered, but looking back killing Lem was the best thing for the whole show, it allowed them to go to much darker places with Shane and Vic.

I loved the money train story arc that was great.

Agree, the ending of season 2 is second favorite episode.

Sadly the way Ten butchered the show by cutting and viewing it I missed the flow and continuity of it.

Before I bought it on DVD I'd only seen random episodes on ten and thought it was a CSI type show, saw it at JBHifi for $16 thought I'd check it out, best decision I've ever made.

Hands down for its time though it was the best cop show going around.

Best of all time.

The violence and sex and tough cop antics where great.

IMO It wasn't that they made the show so good, it was the depth of characters, a seen with Vic and Acevada was talking was just as good as a shootout.

I hope they don't make a movie, as I loved how then ended it.

Your on the ball I thought that previously that a prequel would have all the Strike Force in it and they could show how and why they get their reputation.

There has been talk of a money as late as of July of this year.

I think the moment has passed and time has moved on.

With that said I could see a movie years down the track but with totally different actors.

Thanks I like your comments this is the closest I will get to a book club lol.

Lem being killed was just an awesome episode. Awesome song played when he died.

Smashing Pumpkins Disarm

First time I ever really heard it. Great lyrics.

I know the method behind Shane's madness funnily enough he didnt hate or dislike Lem nor did Lem do anything to him. It was simply the fact that he was scared of Lem turning them all in.

Sad sad sad episode.

Some of the torture episodes of suspects of Lems death was just awesome and tragic at the same time.

As I said these two incidents defined the show..........

I guess Im into happy endings lol The Shield isnt.

Vic Mackey doing paper work as a cop is equivalent to us doing time in jail.

Except for the sensational writing and acting, the choice of music was really what made the show for me, every time I hear disarm I think of the Shield, another great song was If I ever leave this world alive by flogging molly.

Hmmm your right it isnt just this or that, that made the show awesome it was a combination of a number of factors.

I mean hell where else would you see the Captain (or was he mayor at the time) being r*ped as in being forced to give a blow job to a gang member and it captured on a camera phone.

What did happen to that picture? Did Vic give it back to Acaveda ???

Cant remember?

The money train story arc was what lifted the show to absolute awesomeness - then at the start of the next season they throw in the Aceveda 'incident' like a foot to the throat and they never relented.

I always wished they had more Tavon smoothness, but thats another thing that Shane ****ed up :(

Season 5 is possibly the best season of a tv show in television history.

Way to set Vic up for an expectation fail... :)

Its good Vic, but has little on season 4 of The Wire... which is the best season of a tv show in television history ;)
