Anyone else seen the last episode yet?
I've been busy, I've fallen 5 episodes behind. Seemingly a bad thing, but this entitles me to a 3hr Shield marathon that I've scheduled for saturday night :D

This season pisses me off. The development of the stories was fantastic through the first 9 episodes, and the end of episode 9 was brilliant. I literally cheered out loud when I was watching it.

Shame the final episode is such a steaming pile of crap. So much painstaking story development just nonchalantly wrapped up in 1 hour, just to setup next season's plot. I watched it about a week ago and just thinking about it makes me angry. Makes me wonder why I bother watching this show; the writers have proven time and time again that all their great ideas will come to nothing.

Geez, that's a bit stiff mate, I really loved episode 10. I'm not sure what storylines you're referring to, but not too many of them were wrapped up at all. Vic still seems destined for the exit while Shane is spiralling out of control. No matter how hard he tries to pull it off, Shane will always be a poor man's Vic Mackie.
To be honest I really wouldn't call episode 10 a finale. It feels more like a mid season break because the main season storylines haven't really come to a head. Nothing's really been wrapped. Rather everything's been set for the final act.
Still it wasn't as good as the season 5 finale. But let's face it; that episode was an absolute masterpiece and it's always going to be hard to top that one. After all Lem was a much loved character.

Great episode and a great season 6. The wait for season 7 though is gonna be an absolute b!tch!!!

*spoilers*
Well, my issue is with how much setup there was, and then how relatively quickly they ended the stories, or diminished the setups to nothing.

Like:
- Hiatt being fired so abruptly.
- nothing interesting or unpredictable coming from Shane's dealings with the Armenians (nothing happened to Vic's family; Armenian daughter character is now presumably gone; Shane predictably gets put in debt just like he did with Antwon Mitchell)
- Dutch not going off the deep-end after seeing Tina rooting Hiatt (that was really lame; why have that story at all if not to delve into Dutch's repressed crazyness?)
- Billings' lawsuit came out of nowhere, and if that has any real impact on the plot, that'll be lame as well; he's a comic relief character, and shouldn't really affect the main plot.
- Oh, and Vic surviving that crash hanging out of the car window?! I thought I was watching a Die Hard movie or something.

It just felt like the writers said "lets get everything out of the way and introduce the 'Vic and Aceveda versus Cruz plot". It seemed really lazy, and a huge disappointment after the high of episode 9. The writers took the boring, easy way out of the plotlines that they'd taken 9 episodes (plus the end of season 5) to build up.

Re: For those who haven't seen The Shield...

Thanks for the advice. I have been meaning to get the DVD's for a while and $16 is too good even for my stingy ass to refuse.

The Shield is no The Wire (hell, what is?) but it's a pretty great show regardless.

Re: For those who haven't seen The Shield...

Seen The Wire? If not, I won't hold that statement against you.
Indeed not. Heard a lot of great things about it though. I've just started watching season 1 of The Sopranos, so The Wire will be my next target.

Re: For those who haven't seen The Shield...

You can currently get seasons 1-3 for $15.98 each at JB Hi-Fi. I can't recommend this series high enough. It's the best TV Series I've ever seen.

Show is okay, but there are many better shows.

Try Sopranos, West Wing, Deadwood, The Wire, Rome... pretty long list.

Sopranos-Just starting to watch
West Wing-Never seen it but doesn't look like my kind of show
Deadwood-Sensational show
The Wire-See above

I watch both. Still prefer the shield by a fair bit, over pretty much everything, although he wire is also a great show.

But Shield > Wire IMO.

And yeah, that deal is a steal.

cheers for the info.i have series 1 and 2,but i will be sure to get series three.
have a person o/s getting me number 5 as we speak.

Re: For those who haven't seen The Shield...

EzyDVD are saying that Season 4 isn't out until mid November BUT JB Hi-Fi have it out already for $42, so I picked that up today also. It also means Season 5 is coming. Season 5 is truly incredible.

And to fans of The Wire, I was going to pick it up today, but Season 1 was $65 and while I am willing to give an unknown show a shot on DVD, it has to be under $40 because there's no way I'm paying $65 for a show I've never seen before, no matter how highly it's rated. So now I begin the wait for it to be on sale :p

Sounds like you're doing what I did, I started watching The Soprano's this year, blew through it in no time. Then I thought 'sheez, I'll never be able to find anything to top that', then I started on The Wire...

Looks like you've got some quality entertainment ahead. :thumbsu:

I think JB Hifi have exclusive rights to The Shield dvds (at least from season 3 onwards), season 3 was sold only at JB for a few months... before other retailers were able to.

I picked up season 1 & 2 for $25 a few years ago, when the majority of stores still sold it for $60 - $80 :D

Likewise with The Wire, i heard many good things about the show and read many good opinions about it (spoiler free), JB had both season 1 & 2 for under $25 some months ago. Snapped at the oppertunity to buy them. Still waiting for season 3 & 4 to come out.

Re: For those who haven't seen The Shield...

Season 4 of The Wire is the best season of TV I have ever seen. Shame it's not even out in the US yet.

I have noticed that The Wire saeasons are more expensive than normal, both here and in the US. I guess because the fanbase is relativly small, but commited, they jack the price up knowing the fans will buy it anyway. Season 1 & 2 were cheap a few months back at most shops, so they'll probably be bought down again soon.

Is this current season the last season of The Shield?

Indeed it is.

Re: For those who haven't seen The Shield...

Sadly, it seems yes. :(

Been an awesome 7 seasons tho.

I agree. Thought about changing my avatar to Lem for a while there.

Re: For those who haven't seen The Shield...

Binxy, did you ever see the webisode that came out before the last series, Wins and Losses? Where it has the flashback of Lem winning the arm wrestling comp against the massive dude

"He's all meat and no hard"

He had a bung shoulder at the time but did it for the team regardless. That was brilliant, the team at their peak.

I live in hope they'll do another flashback episode that showed the team back in the good times, Lem included:(.

One of my favourite ep's is the flashback episode about the formation of Farmington, if only to see Vic and Shane in suits:D.

They only did that episode because they couldn't work out how to do Ronnies makeup so you could see the burn marks.
