The Short's - Matt Short

yeah he'd be in the conversation with the likes of hardie and mcsweeney etc.

to force his way into the test XI though, he'd have to score a mountain of runs or get a lucky break if an opportunity presented via injuries.

his best bet would be to lock down a permanent spot in the short form games for the time being.

I could be wrong but I think I've seen posters comment on his lack of ability playing spin. He may have struggled in the T20s over there with spin too.

If I was to chuck him in the tests it'd be a home summer to start off rather than the wolves on the sub continent. Also a consistent run of shield form, he's dropped off from last season in that form.

I’d definitely give him a good run in the T20I side now that Finch and Warner are done as his form for the Strikers has been consistent for quite a duration. He’s well down the pecking order for tests though imo.

Matt Short has made his way into the limited over white ball squad. He is talented with the bat and useful with the ball. Is he a chance in the Test squad for our next tour of the subcontinent? My view is that he should be seriously discussed as an inclusion. Thoughts?

He's in fantastic form at the moment and deserves a spot in white ball cricket for sure. In red ball cricket he doesn't have the performances to warrant even making Australia A.

He's a white ball specialist, probably more a future ODI/T20I opener. I'd have him in now, not future, but that's me. He simply looks a class above the BBL.

He's a fair way off being a test player atm.

TBH I have only seen him bat in the BBL and he isn't in for long enough for me to have an opinion - other than he had a good technique.
That's basically what I thought of Dave early on. He was a t20 specialist for sure early on but from what I could see it came from a decent technique which I thought could translate to test so long as he had the mentality to go with it, which he ultimately did.

I think similar with Ollie now.

Wouldn't mind trialling him as an opener at shield level for a while, could be good for him.
He's a bit flat footed early in his innings, not a good recipe for opening in FC cricket. Plus we basically only have openers in our squad batting wise apart from Handscomb, Kellaway, Short and Harper.

As far as the subcontinent goes, don't think so. Same issue as above, those spinners will make mince meat of him.

Ah okay, I don't get to actually watch much shield cricket, so I don't really see much of players techniques. Is he really that poor against spinners?

Once he's in he's solid but he would struggle on pitches like those over there.
