Congrats on the win Bombers. Love watching Reimers develop. Looks like he'll be one of those all rounder type players which will be very hard to stop. Once he has a bigger engine he'll probably spend his games roaming all around the ground racking up the possies and breaking games open. Going to add some real toughness to that side.

I have to agree. Knights has done well, to my surprise. It'll certainly help us in the next two years. Can't wait for '09 & '10... I'm excited.

But I'm also loving '08 as well. As for our future games this year, we've got...

Melbourne (Rd 18)
West Coast (Rd 19)
& Adelaide. (Rd 20)

- I'm pretty sure we can go on to make it four in a row again if we really want to... assuming our fitness remains as it is now & we have a good run with injuries of course. Which will put us in good confidence when we tackle the Bulldogs in (Rd 21), not an easy match. Either way, a good run home.

Very happy. - GO THE DONS!

Quick Rabbit outfoxed old fox

The commentators were very quick onto Knight's plan of running 3 small fast forwards well away from each other. Malthouse had no answer.

Of course, the bombers played with greater gusto, and out ran their opponents.

It appeared from the first bounce that the Magpies thought they would win merely by turning up on the ground. AS Gary Lyon said - their effort was around 23 cents in the dollar.

Banana boots did great - he will be the star of tomorrow.

yep we are definatly heading the right way, IMO we play a very similar game to geelong, the better we get at executing it each week, the better we get.

Yeah! I think next year we will have the best Attacking Pressure in the league. *fingers crossed*

Thanks mate - and I completely agree.

I kept saying 'Bombers to make the 8 in 2010'...
maybe I should be saying 09?!

I think it's great,
real confidence booster for the young kids to keep winning/know what it feels like to win,and the pressure they placed on the Pies today was just awesome.

Well Done Essendon...keep it up :thumbsu:

Interesting to see the result of changing from small, fast bodies in the middle to hard, ball wining types. Maybe it was forced by injuries but still it says a lot about how over-coached and over-thought some aspects of footy are. Sometimes the straight forward approach is the best.

Im wrapped with the win BUT at the same time im nervous... Im nervous coz although in my head i keep saying "dont worry its not important if we dont make the 8" but REALLY im hoping we do... And ill feel let down if we didnt although i shouldnt?? Because we have improved so much...

Am i making sense???

Another encouraging thing about the Bombers is the players that aren't out there at the moment. McVeigh, Bachar Houli, Davey, Neagle etc.

Pretty obvious I know but it adds to the excitement to think what may be round the corner.

Still can't wait to see Gumby in this mix.

Funny what a few wins will do.

Couple of months ago we were everyone's bitch.
Now apparently Essendon's the new black, to quote T Watson.

Interesting to see the result of changing from small, fast bodies in the middle to hard, ball wining types.

It's what all the successful sides of the last 5-6 years have had in common.
Geelong, West Coast, Sydney, Port Adelaide, Brisbane.

Even St Kilda.

If you win the ball and you run hard, it becomes a lot easier to find space and break lines.

I think Knights has done a fantastic job absorbing media scrutiny and sticking to his guns that he wanted us to attack first. If you look at it over the years, teams that win flags have plenty of goal scorers, showing a diversity in attack that is hard to stop. The 'magical' figure that you hear coaches and respected media types say for a winning formula is to have a few players over 20 goals for the season.

Over the past few years the numbers read;
Premier averages 7 players who kick 20 or more for the entire season
Wooden Spoon Team averages 3 players kicking 20 or more for the entire season

Geelong ‘07 = 8
Richmond ‘07 = 4
Bombers ‘07 = 3

WestCoast ‘06 = 6
Carlton ‘06 = 2
Bombers ‘06 = 2

Sydney ‘05 = 5
Carlton ‘05 = 4
Bombers ’05 = 4

Port Power ‘04 = 7
Richmond ‘04 = 3
Bombers ‘04 = 6

Lions ‘03 = 7
Western Bulldogs ‘03 = 4
Bombers ‘03 = 6

Lions ‘02 = 6
Carlton ‘02 = 3
Bombers ‘02 = 4

Lions ‘01 = 9
Fremantle ‘01 = 3
Bomber ‘01 = 7

Bombers 00 = 8
St Kilda 00 = 3

You can see we dropped off a lot in the years we haven't made the finals, showing that we were relying on to few to kick us the winning score. This year IMO we will have 4 to 5 players kick 20 goals and who knows next year there is the potential for us to have 7 or 8, which will put us right in the mix for the finals.

Sorry it was a long way around to make my point but like everybody is saying it is exciting times at the Dons!!

So many players are improving under knights - mcphee, welsh, mcveigh, ryder just to name a few.

Until last week the only player that really has gone backwards was Dyson but he may have just turned that around.

Usually teams that finish the season of well can take that momentum into next season and get big improvement (lets hope thats where we are heading with Gumby, Hislop, dempsey, Houli, Hocking, Daniher and Davey all to be there next year)

heres my list of potential 20+ goal kickers next season:

Lloydy
Lucas
Neagle
Gumbleton
Jetta
Davey
stanton
lovett
reimers
mcveigh
Mcphee

Not sure if Neagle and gumbleton can play in the same side.

Great post.

Assuming everyone is fit and available for most of next year:
Lucas and Lloyd are monties for kicking 20+ goals

Forwards:
Neagle
Gumbleton
Jetta
Davey

Midfielders/Resting Forwards:
McVeigh
Hille
Laycock
Reimers
Stanton

All the above should be aiming to kick 20 goals or more next season, if they can stay on the park.

If we can get 20+ goals out of Neagle AND Gumbleton we'd be very, very happy.

As for our midfielders, McVeigh and Hille are proven goal scorers; Stanton is becoming more of a goal scoring threat and Reimers is already starting to develop into a goal scoring threat.

On the attacking front, we have bucket loads of potential
