The Simpsons producers plot to kill off iconic character - but who will it be?

THE Simpsons producers are planning to kill off an iconic character this season.
Executive producer Al Jean revealed his plans while speaking at a conference call for the show's 25th season, The Sun News reported.
"I'll give you a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won't say who it is," Jean teased.
The hint isn't particularly helpful, seeing as there have been 25 Emmy winners for The Simpsons so far.
The Fox animated series treated fans to a hilarious parody of Homeland in its 25th season premiere on Sunday. Saturday Night Live's Kristen Wiig starred as an FBI agent.

Perhaps Grampa? Not exactly iconic but I can't imagine them killing off someone major.

... Then again I couldn't imagine that the show would get as bad as it is now.

I'd consider Grandpa fairly major! Not Major as the likes of Homer,Marge,Bart,Lisa,Maggie etc.. but I'd rank him fairly high on the list of important characters.

Although given the wording about having won a Grammy for voicing "that character", I'm guessing it's not someone who has voiced multiple characters (eg. Castellaneta, Azaria). My guess at this point would be Sideshow Bob.

Yeah Sideshow Bob would be my guess as well. I've never cared for him really. I though he was quite boring! So I wouldn't be disappointed if it's him.

I actually don't care who they kill off. The chances of me watching anything past season 12 are still at absolute zero so it doesn't effect me at all.

They should instead kill off the show completely and save us from the embarrassment it has become to itself.

I think I'd watch the last episode if/when they ever reach that point. It'd probably be terrible, but I'd just feel like I have to.

The only ending I'd be happy with is if right at the end, Homer is shaping up to make some big speech about the events of the episode, when suddenly the picture freezes. 2-3 seconds later ...

'I have to go now, my planet needs me'.

Up until a few months ago they'd been showing old episodes all the time, then they switched to one old and one new in that run of animations. Now every time I switch it on it seems to be new episodes.
