Lisa: These talking dinosaurs are more real than most real families on TV!
Homer: Look Maggie, they have a baby too!
Bart: It's like they saw our lives and put it right up on screen.

They should collect data on the amount of Simpson related deaths. Im sure someones tried to jump a gourge on there skateboard before and well went splat

I had to explain the word garage without using the word garage last night. First thing that popped into my head was 'Moe thinks this is a fancy French word' and about half the people there immediately got it. Simpsons.

Certainly the best cartoon ever, and one of the biggest TV shows of all time. 6:00pm was simpsons time for me since I was 4 till I was 10 or 11.

used to watch it religiously up til about 2001-2002.

"Miss Hoover, the worm flew up into my mouth and i ate it. Can i have new one?"
"No Ralph, just go to sleep while the other children learn"
"Oh boy sleep! That's where im a Viking!"

Also, some of season 2 was quite good, though most of seasons 1 and 2 were much less funny than the decade that proceeded them.

I forgot Lisa's Substitute was in season 2. That episode goes into god mode. One of the most touching episodes. Also an excellent guest appearance by a once-off character. These days, when they introduce a character, it makes constant appearances completely diluting their effect (see: Rich Texan Guy)

Season 2 also has Dancin' Homer and Simpson and Delilah, two of the best episodes ever.

That's why the Simpsons was so good when it first began - because it wasn't just a comedy. It taught lessons in morality.

EDIT: Also, The Way We Was (a flashback episode) was awesome too.

Turned animation shows from kid shows to prime time TV..

The Flintstones was on prime time (7pm) back in the '70's. It definitely wasn't a kids cartoon in it's time.

Someone can take their Bigfooty name from something that was mentioned in one episode for about 5 seconds and people get the joke. It's that big.

One thing which I started ages ago but got distracted from and only just got back into again is my plan to watch all the Simpsons episodes in order. I've seen them all up to around season 10 but after that I kind of lost track of it. I just watched Lisa's Substitute the other day and you're right, it's quite touching. They actually had a lot of touching moments in the first few seasons, but replaced them with laughs in the later seasons, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

On the other side of the coin, I just watched the episode with the fat white guy Michael Jackson impersonator and it fell pretty damn flat. I remember when that episode was hyped up for the entire summer.

My favourite Simpsons moment is this one:

Futurama gains a lot of e-cred for the emotional resonance it has with its viewers, but something that is very underrated in The Simpsons is the amount of poignant moments the show has had over the journey.

God damn this show had soul.

I literally think in Simpsons quotes. Just about everything that is said to me, a Simpsons moment pops into my head. I'm waiting for the day I walk in the front door and my friends are holding an intervention for me to try and stop the continual references and jokes I make.

hehe gloopid gloropope.
