I'm not defending Bradman's administration. Mind you, he wasn't alone in that administrative style in those days. It was par for the course.
But at least he put his hand up to do it. For years.
Chappell on the other hand was content to go into the media and snipe. And quite a bit of his sniping towards Bradman, that I saw at least, was after the bloke died.
He either didn't have the courage to do it while Bradman was alive, or actually did it after he died out of respect - which flew in the face of his public condemnation of him.
And, as I implied before, it's easy to take shots at someone from the comfort of the media when you are not willing to get in and get your hands dirty yourself. Chappell probably knew that if he did he would find it wasn't as easy a job as he wanted to think it was.
Bradman had failings from what I have read, but I have very little respect for Chappell over his stance on him. And I otherwise don't mind the bloke.
Your point is well made, but I'm fairly sure the Chappell's both told the Don straight of their concerns (re: money and the similarity with him in the 30's) and from then on they agreed to disagree. The old saying goes that you don't piss on monuments, but they keep getting asked about it and they tell there side of events which goes along the lines of what I said earlier.
