Most of the richest women are self made risk takers, that's how they made it, why would they suddenly become risk averse? Maybe they aren't risk averse, maybe they simply see it is not a realistic proposition.

There's a huge gap between "I don't want to invest my money in this thing" and "This thing can't make money".

There's also plenty of middle ground. Why hasn't it happened? Why wouldn't you take the chance if it's going to make money? What will the investor lose apart from money?

Why aren't Port and the Crows worried about such a thing? How did ANZ cope with sponsoring netball? What about the W League? The will is clearly there as community projects, but not as money spinners.

Ironically the clearest example of a sponsor getting burned in women's sport that I can think of was when Port were unceremoniously dumped by the Thunderbirds.

I have a laymans understanding yes, but you haven't identified the non financial risk. You have also applied the aversion to nearly every individual and corporation in the WORLD in regards to female sport. You are assuming the cultural values of all companies who have not invested in female sport do so for similar reasons...but you also haven't identified the reasons.


And just to clarify what we are discussing here as it's getting messy:

I am not arguing about whether female sport should be supported, I think it should AND I think so at the expense of much of the men's sport a la A league and the AFL women's teams.

My point is simply that there is not a financially viable argument for women to be paid the same in these sports (and many others), the evidence for which is the lack of investment outside of community style projects by companies and individuals. It is not a gender reason, but a financial one evidenced by the lack of female or any other investor.

It's an upbringing and ingraining issue. If you've been brought up being taught that casual derogatory remarks aimed at individuals different to yourself are normal and the longer you believe that what you're doing is acceptable the worse it gets. Over time it becomes so ingrained in yourself that someone telling you it's not acceptable anymore they take it as a personal attack.
