Andre, have you heard of privilege and how it warps `equal' systems? Because ignoring that is the entirety of why your argument holds no water.
Of course, I only have to go out in public to see richer, fitter, younger, more beautiful and/or smarter people. I can choose to either resent them and try to bring them down to my level or take control of those ones I can address to improve myself or my lot. I choose to not take umbrage at the world and fix what I can (well except for the younger and more beautiful part, genetics refuse to bend to my wishes ).

Dont care for the sexist comments myself.
Then again, on a late night drinking session I have been known to return home and post some dumb things on here.

I see a lot of comments posted that are pretty freaking shocking, but the mods clean it up.

Moderation doesn't change culture though, by the time the comment is deleted 2 pages has passed and no one knows it was deleted for being too obscene.

I wonder where the constant sexual euphemisms and comments that pervade the board fit into this discussion. Innuendos about erections, ejaculations, etc. Posters getting "immediates" etc when they see a port player doing well, or the like.

Seen this from dozens of posters here, and personally find it distastful. I often feel that these posts must surely be offensive to female posters.

Just throwing that out there.

Now you've got me excited

Everyone has posted something that is offensive. Everyone has. It happens. The key is to a) report posts that are considered offensive and b) try not to do it again!

Whilst I disagree with parts of Portia's argument, I think the main crux is valid and that sometimes there can be sexist comments. But once again, if people find it offensive, it should be reported and then we can deal with it.

One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter. Point being that anything can be considered to be offensive these days and it's a subjective matter. What may be sexist, racists etc to one person may not be considered that to another. In society these days you just about can't say anything without it offending Atleast 1 person in some way or another

The main thing to think about is whether you would want people to kno you were a girl on here or not. I am sure this is a problem everywhere on the Internet, but some websites are much better than others.

Bigfooty is not as bad as other websites but there are things that fall below the line of report worthy, and are still problematic.

Also IMO reporting someone achieves very little when compared with telling them they are wrong. They might not accept it straight away but eventually they'll listen to reason.

Well how about let's start with not saying things that offend 50% of people :)

I'm more concerned with the more obvious and heinous things like creeping/harassing and gender bias. I'm less concerned with instances such as calling someone a princess.

Just IMO. As we have established everyone has varying levels regarding this topic.

That's essentially one of my points yes
That in general gen y/z is less sexist then it's older generations

But they are more whiny.

This thread hurts my eheart.

Portia points out that we could do better in some areas. Certain amount agree, the rest deny there's a problem and overreact.

How about just trying to do a little better guys? What's the worst that could happen.

Yep, thats the problem.

I personally believe that in off topic discussion its fair game, but when it crosses in to on topic discussions that is inappropriate, and if posters here really were creeping on another poster who had a display pic of herself, that's unwelcome behaviour that should've been stamped out right away. A few of us put our selfies around the place in here, particularly in the port store thread, and none of us would enjoy being on the end of that kind of stuff.

Problem there is you're saying `Women are welcome on the Port board, except don't go to these bits.'

Thats not exactly reasonable, is it?

Yep.

I have always found a big chunk of Big Footy, but more so the Port Board to be a lot like a footy locker room - ie there is a lot banter, footy and non footy, bad jokes, good jokes, some genuine whit, plenty of bullshit, concern for fellow players ie posters, a fair bit ego, a bit of humility, a chance to shoot the shit, political incorrectness, political correctness, some badgering, plenty of empathy, etc etc etc.

I dont see that changing and everybody becoming politically correct over night. There has to be self regulation more so than moderator regulation.

I'm not saying that at all, what I am saying is that in threads with no specific discussion topic, it's not unreasonable for people to talk about who they find attractive.

In on topic discussion, that can discourage input and participation and make people feel unwelcome. People should feel free to discuss matters of sport without irrelevant comments regarding appearance and sexuality. The question is, does that mean we cut out the homoerotic innuendo as well? Seeing as some players are aware of us and have given the forum their time as well.
