Need to do something to get the crowd up and about because let's be honest, apart from the final last year the crowds at Optus so far have been flaccid

I miss the days of a raucous Subi (not the stadium itself but the atmosphere)
It wasn’t always flaccid. When we played with intent and were physical it was more of a hardon, or at least a half chub 😁

In all seriousness, putrid game plan is probably a big factor for crowd’s disconnection. On occasions when we played well, the crowd certainly got loud

Clearly didn't watch the game last night. Country Road was going off
Maybe so and because they were winning. Imagine they were getting pumped by 10 goals and Charlie kicks a goal in junk time, I doubt crowd’s response would be the same. It probably would be cringe worthy

I think we should showcase some other great West Aussie artists and play "hey santa claus" by kevin bloody wilson after every goal.

Gotta say the design of Optus contributes to the poor atmosphere, the seats are too far away due to them being raised above the surface. Then there's the larger gaps between the tiers, the crowd is too spread out.

Yes agreed

The stadium is a little too comfortable and spacious

Subi oval felt louder. The crowd seemed more agro too.

Should squeeze 25k into Freo Oval, shove the away team in the 1890s changerooms and see how many home games we win then.

Completely disagree, the stadium is a cauldron and is built for atmosphere. I was at the WC vs Collingwood QF and the WC vs Melbourne prelim in 2018 and the atmosphere was bonkers, I've barely heard a stadium get that loud.

Optus stadium is one of the best stadiums in the world, we're just a bit passive as a crowd at the moment

In my opinion Optus Stadium is built for comfort over atmosphere, a tightly packed Subi would be nearly as loud as 55k+ at Optus, due to the fact that the crowd is closer to the action and each other.

I'm old, but I like having a song after a goal.
Naysayers who dismiss it as American bs need to grow up & enjoy things on their merits
If they don't like it for another reason, fair enough

The BBL final last year was pretty loud too. I'm not surprised that Josh Brown dropped that catch in the second last over - the crowd was going rabid!

Yeah I don't get this built for comfort over atmosphere argument.

It's a modern stadium built in the 2010s, it can have both

I like the didgeridoo after our goals but find the songs after the goals for the Lions lame and about as bad as the songs after the womens’ goals.
Then I had the pleasure of listening to the jaws theme after East Freo kicked a goal.. was half expecting it to turn into ‘Baby Shark’.
Maybe we haven’t scored enough goals to get excited by it?

There's a lot that's cringe about some americanisation of the game lately, but there's also plenty of disliking change vibes going on.
I mean Subi was great at the time, but god damn Optus is a better stadium in almost every regard.

Older stadiums were built to fit as many people as possible standing when OHS was a pipe dream. Then seats were added, they made use of every inch of space they had, so you were packed like sardines and the stadium still passed as "standard".

Stadiums are built to create atmosphere, sure, but when you have to pass however many OHS, accessibility & inclusivity standards, then of course it's never going to be as atmospheric as what it was at Subi when we had to sit on those old wooden benches and hire cushions from the junior footy clubs parked out the front

I get why OS is build the way it is and the onus is on us as fans to bridge that gap in created a cauldron. It doesn't help when we only get 35-45k to our games.

One aspect is when the team isn't doing that well you have your dedicated core, and it's harder at Optus stadium to make an atmosphere with 30-35k.

We just need to get consistently good again, welcome some more bandwagoners and enjoy the noise.

Also we need the people who sit at the end of my row who wear headphones and give disapproving looks whenever you even as much as clap to decide it's more fun to watch at home.

Lamest thing since the Eagles bouncy castle tunnel. If any song has been done to death it's Country Road
Ummm, let us not forget that Fremantle had a plastis tunnel when we began. It was supposed to be better than crepe paper.
But at least our was not a case of running into a birds Rs and being spewed out onto the field.:grin::grin:

I miss that big "rock" being dragged on field & then a dexy's midnight runner carrying an anchor up it.
Warning 2 youngens, google will be necessary

Haha. The rock and anchor float was extremely lame too, but at least it was uniquely Fremantle in all its glory. I would rather we go our own way and embrace our weirdness rather than just importing whatever commercialised trend others are going with.

Let me tell you, the Melbourne based clubs would have given their eye teeth to have been able to have that beginning to their games.
The only reason it was stopped was because the AFL were frightened that the wheels of the trailer would stir up the grass.
Who can remember the schmozzle of the Eagles early days when they had horse drawn wagons on the field at half time?
The games had to be held up to clean up the horse sheeit.

tbf weve never been as good at optus as we were at subi yet, didnt get to go to the final last year but did some pretty good atmosphere from the tele

but i do agree having the first row raised does take away a bit of the engagement, but defs helps having a better view
