JUMP TO 2023 :arrowright::arrowright::arrowright:
-----------------

If you are anything like me, hearing Final Siren state that after his beloved Tigers saluted in the last game of the 2017 season he would be retiring from continuing the greatest thread on Big Footy, it has left a massive void in your heart.

He has kindly given me permission to start an appreciation thread using the material from his squiggle website - Squiggle 2022 - and for us to have a place to continue the legacy that was squiggle.

This will be a squiggle socialist utopia, so feel free to post the updates each week, as well as to add in any of your own models and analytics. Let's keep it footy prediction and reflection based, and try not to get too upset when a model/poster disagrees with your opinion. The squiggle loves us all equally and will reflect that over the journey, it just happens to be Richmond's turn in the sun at the moment. However in saying that, it looks as if this benevolent deity has moved on:

Some things never change with the squiggle. We won the flag and it STILL doesn't think we're a chance.
It has you losing a prelim to the eventual premier by 13 points, I'd say that's a pretty decent chance! I'd happily swap from where the Lions are sitting..

I'm really glad to see that the Squiggle analytics will be continued in 2018. Its a great insight and fascinating to watch as finals get closer. The Tower of Power was great last year.

I'm less pleased that it has us losing another elimination final. C'mon Squiggle give us a break!

Awesome!!!

Thank you.

Predicts a very tight ladder. Poor GCS :'(.

If the Squiggle is basically a reliable overall guide then the AFL is about as even as it has been in a long time. Top 6 very even. The a long and strong group of top 8 contenders. Could be another year of WTF results. :D

At this stage Squiggle is as blind as any predictor for 2018.

It is fun to watch it evolve without the emotional attachment we feel as fans

Why do you do this to me squiggle!?
I've just bought a new house, I don't want to have to move interstate.

Melbourne are way too good to finish 13th tbh, if anything they're a better top 4 chance than to not be in the top 10.
Yeah I tend to agree. I do love though when teams you hope/expect to do well start the squiggle lowly ranked, because they have such great scope for some big movement - particularly early on before it rates them!

St Kilda losing their most important player (11-6 with Riewoldt and 0-5 without in 2017) and West Coast getting theirs back is the first mental adjustment I'm making to the season predictor. It'd also surprise me if Carlton and Gold Coast combined for anything close to 15 wins, whereas I like Fremantle and Brisbane as improvers while expecting the same old crap from North but with an easier draw. And yes heads should roll at Melbourne if they finish that low, unless a string of freak injuries, incarcerations and disappearances runs through their playing group.

15-7 for a minor premier is about as low as it gets (half a win less than first and second's record last year), and I don't think the competition has become more balanced over the off-season.

Surprised that more Richmond supporters aren't talking up their flag win last year.

Anyway, on OP, looking forward to a year of forecasts where Port Adelaide make a GF whilst simultaneously failing to beat a single top 8 team*.

I love the squiggle and love it even more when it is wrong, so we are off to a great start with it predicting Adelaide beat Richmond in a final! Just cant see that happening. But subbed for the journey and would very much love to see Final Siren come back for his weekly reports.

Uh, its predictng Adelaide beat Richmond in Adelaide. If you cant see that happening go look at our finals record in Adelaide last year - flawless.

But more importantly * Squiggle. I read the archives on this s**t. Constantly talking Adelaide up. Farrrrrrrk you, you jinxing piece of data poo.

A week after the GF it still tried to predict an Adelaide win.

Squiggle can remain dead so we can usher in an Adelaide dynasty free from this black magic bullshit.

Thanks all for the love. I won't be doing weekly reports this year, but Squiggle will still be running, and I'm up for joining in the discussion, especially if we get another couple of armchair analysts in here. The back and forth has always been my favourite part of it.

Good to see you emerge from the pub. Hope you have enjoyed the off-season. Good luck in the next part of your life. Look forward to some commentary every now and then

Any chance of a squiggle app?
