Must be a three team merger then, as hawks and your mob already played there..

Logic....

No mate.

Hawthorn can afford to lose Tassie.

We're redeveloping Arden St and involved in the wider precinct.

We are debt free and want to be Melbourne only.

St Kilda are laden with debt and reliant on the AFL to service it.

Hence desire to move to Tassie. For some games. That rapidly becomes eight.

Then the full relocation.

You lot have no idea how close to the ledge you are.

It is utterly astounding

Ok lets give you a moment to do your little dance:

Why would the AFL and state government commit money to Moorabbin's continuing redevelopment if the plan was to move us?

Because it won't be presented as a full relocation.

The AFL learns. Learned from murdering Fitzroy, learned from their failed attempt with us and the Gold Coast.

It'll be slowly at first. Four games. Then six. Then eight. They'll let you play women's at moorabin, they'll pretend your coppers game with Hawthorn is a blockbuster.

They'll boil you like a frog.

Now, a question for you and the other saints fans.

If everything is so hunky dory and the debt doesn't matter, why the sudden interest in flogging games to Tassie.

You are dangerously close to the edge here and seem completely unaware of it.

Nice aggressive post there mate, really made a s**t point while ignoring the question completely.

Plonker of a poster, plonker of a thread.

Hearing whispers North and Melbourne are presenting to the AFL throughout this year about playing games at a smaller boutique venue in Melbourne in 2022 with a view to potentially redeveloping an existing stadium to hold 30k moving forward.

That stadium will be Ikon park.

Carlton looking at building a monster facility near the State netball and hockey centre.

Admission of defeat.

St Kilda are hoping to play games in Tassie.

Due to their mountain of debt.

Amazes me the fans are not mobilising here.

Would be nice in theory but doubt it happens

Moorabbin is a community centre precinct right?

Probably just as important, if not more politically, as a hub for women’s football

Yeah i'm sure that's the secret plan, women's football.

Well it was a key requirement (arguably the priority requirement) outlined in the recent Victorian stadium grants handout.

And for those playing at home, the Saints don’t own Moorabbin. They are merely a tenant.

I hear there is a better coffee culture these days in Moorabbin so the AFL could push the Umpires to the venue at a stretch

Good luck with the debt :)

Why would the Tassie government walk away from deals with Hawthorn and/or North, on the basis of wanting their own team, only to agree to a deal to have St Kilda play games there instead?

Well they dont have a deal with Hawthorn and North Melbourne from 2022.

Fair to say that St Kilda games would be a great deal cheaper than Hawthorn games to buy.

The AFL would be wrapt if St Kilda took Hawthorn games for the same reason they wanted North to take our games...

It helps out a struggling Victorian team at a time of great financial uncertainty.

That said, I doubt St Kilda, North or Hawthorn will relocate to Tasmania.

A relocated club in a mature market like Tasmania (where 90% of people already have a team) would be a disaster.

Hawthorn has been in Tasmania since 2000 and our membership has been 10,000 or so for 12 years (there is no further growth left in the market unless you convince Tasmanian Coll, Rich, Ess (etc) fans to embrace a relocated team)

If the AFL says no new team for you.

But we do have a mob that is hugely in the hole to us and relies on our funding to keep the lights on we can give you.

Hawthorn would be wary of losing Tassie as major sponsor imo.

As Kennett has noted, not having a W side hurts immensely when going for sponsorship now.
