I know we are nearly at the end of this ridiculous process, but the brinksmanship from all sides of this is just stupid and divisive. A 27k - 30k stadium in the same/similar spot but without a roof would be 70% of the cost, and have half the bulk of the roofed stadium, reducing the visual impact on the precinct. It would generate more revenue, and be better for cricket. It may even have been supported and agreed to 12 months ago.

The feds could call tomorrow and say they are paying for the roof themselves and people will still oppose it.

No roof no entry to the competition? How is that not blackmail?
Whereas "we will not renew our contracts with Haw/NM unless the AFL meets our demands"... hey, that's just good politics.

why should they though? they have committed $240 million. if anyone should stump up more money it's the main beneficiaries, the afl. $15 million is pathetic.

What is people's views on whether major concerts would play at the new Stadium. It's been reported that it is too expensive to get them across Bass Straight, just interested on people's opinions on this.

Concerning... Correct if wrong but we need one of these two to get it over the line?
I believe so (happy to stand corrected also).
At least Bec Thomas realises there's more to the stadium than the financial side of it.

Doubt it.

Has there been any research/evidence to suggest major entertainers would extend their tours to include Hobart?

I worked in the music industry for close to 20yrs, including Frontier for around a decade. It was a fantastic job, (and it ultimately led to my current role in stadia and facilities), I met some great people over that period.

This depends on what you call "major"?

So lets cut the "Taylor Swift" rubbish out and start with some names (through their relative management groups) that have been mentioned to me by friends still in the industry, that have shown an interest in what is happening with the Multipurpose Stadium: Kings of Leon, Killers, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Def Leppard, Good Charlotte, Linkin Park, Wu Tang and Pink (who owns property here in Tas), just to name a few. Now this doesn't mean they'd be a lock, but what it does tell you, is that artist management groups, Frontier, TEGDainty, Untitled etc (I'm not putting Michael Chugg Entertainment in this grouping, the guy is an absolute tool... personal opinion) are watching seriously as to how this develops. So there is definite interest.

I can also tell you, that Bellerive has had to knock back interest from some promoters of big artists like, Bon Jovi, QOTSA, Kiss, and Foo Fighters, due to noise restrictions set for that space.

Further to the above, Split Enz looked at Tasmania for their up coming "Forever Enz" tour, but couldn't find an adequate location.... and by "adequate", they meant a 25,000 to 30,000 all weather venue.

Also of note, the Mac Point Stadium, will have its own sound system/gear, that will help alleviate the cost of artists traveling to Tasmania, that ownership of said gear, was part of the rise in cost for the infrastructure noted a while back.

I could go on, but it's late and I'm catching an early morning flight out of the state to go see Rufus DuSol Saturday night and AC/DC Sunday night..... after just seeing Metallica and Oasis last week and then I'm off to see TV On the Radio at The Forum early December, so it's going to be a big few weeks!

I hope that helps in some way to answering some of your question?

Good reply, it's encouraging to hear that there's interest from the touring music industry. I think that for the stadium to be financially acceptable, it needs far more than 1 AFL team playing a dozen games per year.(has a Tasmanian A League involvement been confirmed?)

Enjoy the next month of shows...we can't even get to see Split Enz in Queensland due to Bluesfest's monopoly of the industry.

I once read a biography on Michael Chugg, and got the same impression.

If they were planning on voting no they would have made it known publicly a long time ago like the others , I imagine there pushing for some back room sweeteners from the libs. Bec Thomas is closely tied to the Glenorchy football club I believe she was on the board at one point she is a guaranteed yes

Wish I shared your optimism (great username btw). There's an article from Chris Rowbottom today suggesting the govt may be taking their votes for granted, which would be a huge stuff up but completely in character for the Libs hubris. Hopefully it's just politicking on their part though.

Bec Thomas was after sweetners. She wanted a $12.5 million funding commitment for a community basketball facility which wasn't in budget and was pissed off about its omission.
I think she'll still vote yes but she's not a happy camper atm it seems.

Yeah based on that article it looks like they got the wind put up them especially with Harriss pushing back against stadium who they expected to vote for it.
I'd assume there'd be some backroom/behind the scenes bootlicking going on atm lol.

Hyde Park London does not have a permanent all weather structure but seems to attract some reasonably good acts?

She will get it in the next budget this one is just a stop gap one due to no confidence/election
