Toast The Steves

Seriously? This is a ridiculous statement.
You probably didn't notice, but North Melbourne finished closer to a GF than we did.

It's ridiculous to restrict any comparison to only one club in North Melbourne.

How did the Bulldogs, Saint Kilda, Melbourne and Brisbane go? Were we just lucky to finish closer to a GF than those perennial strugglers?

I merely picked out an example of a club that had the backside hanging out of its pants financially, the type you said would have no chance of winning a GF, and pointed out that they got closer to it than we did.

They all suck, ours is just different and stands out. It is still average, but different is good.
The only one that has anything meaningful about it is the Egirl song. FLYING HIGH just sounds right.

Yeah, yeah, we did all that years ago.

Tore it out and spat in the aorta.

EDIT: How can it be the same club you grew up with? The anchor is barely there, the colours are different, the jumper is different, the logo is different, the song is different, hell, the name is even different. I think it's you who is being melodramatic.
C'mon Reg...... it would seem by the statement made in your signature that the purple jumpers must be a good thing. ;)

The people harping on about how the Steves are the best thing since sliced bread.
Aaaaaaaaaarrrrggghhhhhhh!

You disagree with a view and call it arse kissing? So you respond by going ad-hom and grammar nazi.. very soft, Reg.

This is how you forward your personal view as relevant?

North Melbourne didn't win the Grand Final so my theory is yet to be proven wrong.

I disagree with some views and I recognise the arse kissing. The two matters are quite separate. Similarly, my campaign against the use of apostrophes in plurals is not in response to a particular comment or poster.

I put forward a viewpoint, it's not always a view I hold, sometimes it's just for the purpose of stimulating discussion. I don't particularly give a shit whether people consider my view relevant or not. I'm not here to win a popularity contest.

But then, how far you get is meaningless and still a failure if it's not a premiership - this is the stance you took with regard to our GF loss - a failure, so how far some other club got this year is irrelevant, because they still failed. I get the sense that you're spouting some double standards. It's a little bewildering that you're always extremely hesitant to praise the club that you say you support, just an observation.

Yes, I agree, no premiership equals a failure in any year. How far you get is meaningless in the overall scheme of things, but the fact that a club that isn't on sound financial footing did make it further than us suggests that a strong financial footing isn't the be all and end all.

You think I'm spouting double standards? Why haven't you picked up the posters claiming our on field success is due to the Steves, but our on field failures like the GF choke and the straight sets exit are down to the players and coaches?

I'm happy to praise the club and have done plenty of times in the past. Perhaps it's just that they haven't done anything praiseworthy lately or perhaps I have become just as ruthless and professional as the club purports to be and my expectations are now higher.

Explain how the GF loss was due to 'The Steves'?

Because I tend to agree that they hired the right people to implement the appropriate strategies to get us up to the standard of being a perennial finals contender each year, and are on the right track to potentially achieve success. If the Steves were part of the players and coaching fraternity it might be a different story. They can't dictate plays and on-field strategies, it's up to our capable coaching staff to accept this responsibility.

Nice flip flop to an each-way bet. No doubt if we don't achieve the ultimate goal during Lyon's tenure, you'll still find some way of declaring the exercise a success for the Steves.

Apparently one of the Steves rang up Peter Gordon and offered to host our Bulldogs game in Perth so they could play the soccer final at Docklands.

Won't die wondering these Steves. Could have probably recognised, or taken some advice, that this was never gonna happen, though.

$750,000? Does Steve think we're Collingwood? We barely make a profit. He's obviously confident of generating more revenue this year. It's understandable that the AFL would reject the offer. But I don't like how they talk about fairness when referencing scheduling and an interstate team though. It's clearly not an equal competition.
