The captain is the most important position at a Sweet FA club. They submit teamsheets, vote in committee, recruit new players and ultimately are in charge of the operation of the entire organisation. Their actions, as we've seen in the last few seasons, can plunge their club into controversy or elevate them into the limelight. They are the face of their team and ultimately form the backbone of the league in the committee room. A captaincy appointment is rarely taken slightly, and never without a fair deal of forethought.

But no one can be captain forever, and succession plans must be formed. In this article, I will take a look at each club, their current captain, and their most likely successor as well as when they could be giving up the role.

Baghdad Bombers

1556115432405.png

Current Captains:
Tony Lynn 15 & TheCoach16 (appointed in S27)

Likely Successor: Matty411

The Bombers boast not one but two of the league's newest captains, with Tony Lynn 15 and TheCoach16 taking over the reigns from KohPhi at the conclusion of last season. Their antics have brought the Bombers firmly into the limelight, with a number of astute recruitments as well, and have proved to have the full support of their playing group.

However, the pair have also attracted their fair share of criticism, including a number of teamsheet and signing errors, with some going as far as to label them incompetent captains. Whilst they undoubtedly have thick skin, the criticism could prove to be tiring but it is unlikely they would pass on the reigns at the end of this season or possibly the next. At the same time, they don't seem like the type of captains to preside over a lengthy reign, and with the amount of active posters at the club, there is no reason to.

The successor at this point is seemingly quite obvious, with Matty411 considered one of the most talented young posters in the league and now in his 3rd season. He was runner-up in the Bombers leadership ballot and his popularity in the league makes him a very solid choice. A wildcard selection could be WaynesWorld19, who has proven his passion for the league and his club, but Matty looms as the obvious candidate at this point

So we’re identifying Matty411 as second banana in the 37 man LG. Well done to him.

Coney Island Warriors
1556116349470.png

Current Captain: Wooshette (appointed in S27)

1556116711563.png

Likely Successor: TheInjuryFactory

When you think of the Warriors, Wooshette is always the first poster to come to mind and her reputation as a captain precedes her. Often swapping the role with Frankston Rover depending on their availability, she's stepped into the job once again this season and continues to maintain the Warriors' unique traditions and culture. Her selection as vice captain of the Season 26 All-SFA side is proof of her league-wide recognition.

The Coney Island leadership has been held by Frankie and Woosh for a number of seasons now, and it could be time for a new face in charge. The club does have the advantage of being quite low maintenance and a low player turnover rate, meaning the job isn't as hands on as some other clubs may be. But Wooshette has already delegated the club's committee duties to her 2IC pantskyle and has the luxury of multiple posters at the club able to step up, a luxury perhaps lacking in seasons past. This could be a succession we see at the end of this season.

TheInjuryFactory's swift rise from sporadic but quality rookie to league powerhouse sees him sit in beez contention and more importantly quells any question of whether or not he'll be around enough to have a big impact. He's proven to be a well respected poster around the league and is immensely popular within his own club. Having done his 2 season apprenticeship under some quality leaders, it is this writer's opinion that he will be appointed as the next Warriors captain at the end of Season 27. In the event I'm wildly wrong, pantskyle is already the club's committee member and may be tempted to have another crack at a captaincy.

If WaynesWorld19 were Captain, his teamsheet would look like this:

C.... KohPhi....... Tony Lynn 15 ........ CALL ME SNAKE ........
Tell me, if that doesn't present way better than current team sheets :)

If the new admin won't allow this ....I'll have no alternative but to platform for change, by buying challenging for the admin's role

While Matty411 seems to the sensible choice for next captain of the Bombers how often do you see the words sensible and Bombers in the one sentence.

I am predicting new co-captains will be put in place at the end of the year with WaynesWorld19 and WFL taking over the reigns and a disgruntled Matty411 requesting a trade to the Dragons.
