Tim Watson: Suspended players impressed with Worfold
Essendon legend Tim Watson says the signing of All-Australian defender Cale Hooker is a great sign of positivity for the Bombers in the retention of it's suspended players.
The 27-year-old has agreed to a new five year deal worth around $4 million, passing up extra money from a number of clubs including Fremantle, North Melbourne, Collingwood and Hawthorn.
"I think this will be a very positive thing for those other players who may be thinking of doing something outside of Essendon," Watson has told Breakfast with Frank and Ox.
Michael Hurley and Dyson Heppell are under contract but that hasn't stopped rival clubs inquiring about their services after Essendon made it clear it would accommodate a trade due the circumstances of the players being suspended.
"I think you can say everyone has been very impressed with John Worsfold and how he's handled himself, how he's handled the players individually, how he's kept contact with the players".
"What he's building there, what they are seeing in terms of how the club is approaching it's next stage of development, and I think they want to buy into that and be part of that," Watson said
Cale Hooker is the latest player that Fremantle has missed out on getting as it tries to bolster its key position stocks.
Former Melbourne champion David Schwarz believes Demon Jesse Hogan will be the Dockers next big target, with the 21-year-old from Perth out of contract at the end of 2017.
